Ex-GOP Candidate For Gov Starts ‘Shooting Indiscriminately,’ Shoots Neighbor, Kills Horse

A California man who campaigned for governor this year has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his neighbor and the shooting death of a horse Thursday afternoon, according to The Fresno Bee.

48-year-old Tye “Glenn” Champ was taken into custody around noon on Friday without incident, after a Tulare County sheriff’s deputy caught up to him on a traffic stop.

According to the Bee, Champ previously served a prison term for manslaughter, has several convictions for weapons offenses and is also a registered sex offender. But since then, Champ claimed to have “found the Lord.”

A “neighbor dispute” over work being done on a road led to the shooting, according to witnesses.  On Thursday afternoon, Champ first approached a 13-year-old boy.

“Champ was angry at the 13-year-old and slashed the tires on the ATV that the child was riding,” Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said. “The parents came to the scene and confronted Champ and that’s when the father was shot, then other witnesses — including the victim and the 13-year-old — ran away as more shots were being fired at them from Champ.”

A horse in a pasture was hit and killed. Mims said Champ was “shooting pretty indiscriminately … it’s fortunate no one else was hit.”

The Fresno Bee reports:

The 40-year-old father was shot in the stomach and underwent surgery at Community Regional Medical Center. He was in serious condition on Friday afternoon but his wounds are not life-threatening, Mims said.

Mims said, “There may have been prior disturbances over the road — I understand it was being retarred in the area — however, that’s no excuse for attempting to murder somebody.”

Champ then took off in a blue, four-door Volkswagen, but was arrested about 10:15 a.m. Friday, Mims said.

Champ was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, willful cruelty to a child, willful cruelty to an animal, and felon in possession of a gun. Bail was set at $500,000.

Raw Story notes that Champ came in fifth in the gubernatorial primary in June with over 76,000 votes.

I agree with the “left/right…” stuff. It’s seems only hard-core partisans see much difference. Most Americans can’t stand either.

How was an ex-con even able to run for office? I suppose CA law is different, no doubt, than KY’s, but here, if you have a felony conviction you have to wait until your full sentence has expired before you can apply for your voting and right to run for office. In other words, if you have a 20 year sentence, no matter how long you serve behind bars and on parole, you have no chance of getting those rights back for a full 20 years. Then, and ONLY then, can you get the Governor’s Seal, which releases you for good, finally. Just wonder how they do it in CA.

I find it funny that cops managed to take a convicted felon with murder in his past and varied assault charges into custody and seemingly uninjured but when it’s an unarmed black male it is seemingly and impossible task. Yeah it’s off topic but is it?

Don’t ask me. We’re too busy this morning discussing whether we should lock the front doors and send the employees either home or to the back of the warehouse.
