Ex-GOP Candidate For Gov Starts ‘Shooting Indiscriminately,’ Shoots Neighbor, Kills Horse

A California man who campaigned for governor this year has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his neighbor and the shooting death of a horse Thursday afternoon, according to The Fresno Bee.

48-year-old Tye “Glenn” Champ was taken into custody around noon on Friday without incident, after a Tulare County sheriff’s deputy caught up to him on a traffic stop.

According to the Bee, Champ previously served a prison term for manslaughter, has several convictions for weapons offenses and is also a registered sex offender. But since then, Champ claimed to have “found the Lord.”

A “neighbor dispute” over work being done on a road led to the shooting, according to witnesses.  On Thursday afternoon, Champ first approached a 13-year-old boy.

“Champ was angry at the 13-year-old and slashed the tires on the ATV that the child was riding,” Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said. “The parents came to the scene and confronted Champ and that’s when the father was shot, then other witnesses — including the victim and the 13-year-old — ran away as more shots were being fired at them from Champ.”

A horse in a pasture was hit and killed. Mims said Champ was “shooting pretty indiscriminately … it’s fortunate no one else was hit.”

The Fresno Bee reports:

The 40-year-old father was shot in the stomach and underwent surgery at Community Regional Medical Center. He was in serious condition on Friday afternoon but his wounds are not life-threatening, Mims said.

Mims said, “There may have been prior disturbances over the road — I understand it was being retarred in the area — however, that’s no excuse for attempting to murder somebody.”

Champ then took off in a blue, four-door Volkswagen, but was arrested about 10:15 a.m. Friday, Mims said.

Champ was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, willful cruelty to a child, willful cruelty to an animal, and felon in possession of a gun. Bail was set at $500,000.

Raw Story notes that Champ came in fifth in the gubernatorial primary in June with over 76,000 votes.

Isn’t it amazing how these wingers find the Lord after committing previous offenses having served time for them? I guess as long as he didn’t violate the 6th Commandment, he’s still a good guy with a gun.

Bubba encourages finding the lord because he doesn’t provide the lube.

That was wrong, but damn funny!

The fact that he got 76,000 votes is scary, the fact that he is a serious felon in possession of a firearm is even scarier. Thanks NRA.

We have a sense of humor about our Gubernatorial candidates here in California!

No we don’t need gun laws , this is what you get an idiot with a gun

    • John David Peer August 9th, 2014 at 21:15

There are over 20, 000 gun laws, rules and local regulations in the US.

You can’t ban violence, or crazy folks.

This guy was in illegal possession of a gun.

He’s arrested, and charged, where’s the story?

      • tiredoftea August 9th, 2014 at 21:20

“…arrested in connection with the shooting of his neighbor and the shooting death of a horse” That’s the story, using a formerly legal gun, or was it illegally manufactured? How did it get into his hands, whose was it, where was it legally purchased? None of these things matter, of course.

      • fahvel August 10th, 2014 at 02:38

very stupid question – does it reflect your view in general?

        • BanditBasheert August 10th, 2014 at 12:45

Obviously it does. There is NO story when someone violates the law with a gun. According to the GOP.

      • Teddy Simon August 10th, 2014 at 11:00

The point of my comment is , why wait till after someone like this does something stupid , he has several convictions already , whoever gave or sold this man a gun needs to be charged also .

      • ChrisVosburg August 11th, 2014 at 00:31

You can’t ban violence, or crazy folks.

Perhaps a civilized society can regulate the former and aid the latter.

I’m glad this f*cker is locked up and has been charged “on suspicion of attempted murder, willful cruelty to a child, willful cruelty to an animal, and felon in possession of a gun.” He’s a perfect example of what can happen to someone who has bought into the NRA’s BS that a gun is the answer to solving conflicts of any/all kinds, and the right to own and carry a gun everywhere is a god given right. I hope he’s convicted for this unnecessary act of violence and spends the rest of his life behind bars. Imo, he’s a menace to society.

    • fahvel August 10th, 2014 at 02:36

M, it’s worse – when these idiots with guns keep carrying them, when do you think they’ll finally break and use them – it will happen!!!!!!!! and to more of them than one would imagine – it’s an accelerating thing.

Further proof nobody sane remains in today’s GOP or runs as a repub.

GOP Candidate Qualifications: Champ previously served a prison term for manslaughter
Has several convictions for weapons offenses
And is also a registered sex offender!
GOP family value hypocrisy bonus points: The father was shot
Attempted Murder of 4. Champ was “shooting pretty indiscriminately” at a Mom & a 13 year old. Mr. Ed a horse in the pasture was hit and killed by the Felon in possession of a gun. GOP Felons D’Souza / Champ in 2016~

And according to the GOP, this dirtbag is not dangerous, he’s a candidate!

See why every elective office in California is filled by a Democrat? Further proof that nobody sane remains in today’s GOP or runs as a repub.

A registered sex offender convicted of two counts of assault with intent to commit rape!
Has several convictions for weapons offenses
GOP family value hypocrisy bonus points: The father was shot
Attempted Murder of 3. Champ was “shooting pretty indiscriminately” at a Mom & a 13 year old. Mr. Ed a horse in the pasture was hit and killed by the Felon in possession of a gun. GOP Felons D’Souza / Champ in 2016~
