President-elect-Donald J. Trump

Posted by | November 9, 2016 04:37 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Donald Trump has won the presidency.

In one of the most shocking U.S. elections in modern political history, Donald Trump has defeated Hillary Clinton.

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans,” Trump said in his victory speech after the Associated Press called the race for him at 2:30 am Wednesday morning. Striking a conciliatory tone, Trump continued, “For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so we can work together and unify our great country.”

He also said Hillary Clinton had called him to concede the race. “Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country,” he said. “I mean that very sincerely.”

Trump’s upset was one he had been predicting for months, gleefully comparing himself to the Brexit vote in England. Yet it was one that almost no other major predictors foresaw, all giving Clinton various degrees of comfortable leads in their election day predictions.

“It was Donald Trump versus almost all the experts … it looks like Donald Trump was right,” Jake Tapper said on CNN at 10:40 pm on election night (before major battleground states had been called).

This is the agenda folks, that the Gop will be pushing through Congress, and Trump will sign, and makes the Bush/Cheney era look benign, even comforting.

The Republicans will now control both Houses of Congress and the White House. They are inheriting a robust and record-breaking economy, unemployment below 5%, stock markets around record levels. Kinda reminds me of the economy George W Bush inherited from Bill Clinton. The Republicans will have no-one to blame if this goes wrong. They have been given control of steering the ship of state. We must hold their feet to the fire.
The only discussions I am seeing are about overturning Roe v Wade, overturning same sex marriage and expanding gun rights. What good is that going to do those who were duped into voting for this guy because he was going to get them great paying jobs out of thin air.
I leave you with this ….a name seriously being considered for Secretary of the Treasury is Larry Kudlow. Now there is an agent of change for you.

    • anothertoothpick November 9th, 2016 at 10:54

this is why the religious fundamentalist turned their back all of trumps sex scandals.

They are counting on overthrow of Roe, and they want to continue to oppress gays.

    • Foundryman November 9th, 2016 at 10:56

No one to blame? The republicans will blame everything on democrats, they always do.

For the first time since 2009, all sectors of the economy are chugging along at normal rates: The housing industry pulled out of its nosedive, the government sector ended its downturn, and as of this quarter, the industrial recession is over. Policy makers face a new challenge, building on an economy in which no major sector is in contraction. But first, the U.S. deserves some recognition for the feat it just accomplished.

about what? Under Obama we have had the longest positive growth in history.

        • R.J. Carter November 9th, 2016 at 15:18

Not a single year of GDP above 3%, first President to ever have this happen.

Number of Americans living below poverty level up 3.5%.

          Median household income down 2.3%.

          Home ownership down nearly 6%.

Americans on food stamps up almost 40%.

“Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?”

          • dewired4u November 9th, 2016 at 21:39

KMA Obama started with an economy that was in total free fall bleeding 300,000+ jobs a month, the auto industry was headed for failure, banks were failing, people were losing their homes do you remember that? Everything Obama wanted to do to stimulate the economy and create jobs was blocked by the do nothing republicans in congress. You people make me sick.

    • dewired4u November 9th, 2016 at 14:47

The way people like trump make money is buy low sell high so when the economy tanks and real estate values tank they grab the best and sit on them until values go back up. We will be in recession in a year.

  3. Foundryman November 9th, 2016 at 10:59

It’s going to be a very long four years. Trump reads from a monitor like a 3rd grader, his first SOTU i’ll be watching reruns of Gunsmoke on MeTV

    • crc3 November 9th, 2016 at 11:29

Gunsmoke is the best tv western ever. 20 years it ran. MeTV and AntennaTV are great!!

      • Gary Parillo November 9th, 2016 at 13:19

I don’t know how long bonanza ran,but I would put it right up there next to guns smoke.

        • crc3 November 9th, 2016 at 13:50

Bonanza ran 14 years. The first 10 were the best but it seems the stories became weaker towards the end…

  4. oldfart November 9th, 2016 at 11:02

The difference between campaign promises and reality.

        Get the popcorn

        • William November 9th, 2016 at 13:25

Exactly. I really, REALLY hope C-span records the fun when Trump asks a republican legislature for 31 billion to build a wall, then some more for a deportation force. Goobers everywhere are going to be so disenchanted when that uppity ER physician from Syria doesn’t get dragged off and deported and replaced with a white ‘Murican doctor. Make some nachos and enjoy the show.

          • robert November 9th, 2016 at 14:47

            LOL I know your right

It’s time to see who’s a man and who’s a mouse ( for a lack of a better word .. bi**h ) we can only hope most of the trump family gets involved so we can make a clean judicial sweep.

        • Lara November 9th, 2016 at 15:37

I do think it’s the alt-right who are going to be the most disappointed. As much as this is horror-making, it will be delicious to watch them watch their idol fail to deliver on one promise after another.

      • granpa.usthai November 10th, 2016 at 01:32

for one thing, we’ve got a lot greater threat out in Nevada. the white racist terrorist are so bad, the US Government has backed down twice already.
I say clean up our own house first. They all are on video, so there should be no problem in rounding them ALL up.

it’s absolutely ridiculous to go halfway around the world to make a stand against a puny force like ISIS, when the much greater threat is here. That’d be like letting ISIS go where ever they wanted on the compound, do whatever they wanted, then having our soldiers back down.

        not a good strategy.

      • crc3 November 10th, 2016 at 09:40

He’ll use nukes before it’s over with then we can all kiss our butts goodbye…

This isn’t funny anymore. I’m really scared. I see another world war looming in our future, and Pence is the VP, so to all the women out there, let’s hope you’re not of child bearing age.

    • granpa.usthai November 10th, 2016 at 01:18

US would probably experience a sore foot epidemic.

that – or you could always go the chocolate pudding route.

  10. maggiemoo November 9th, 2016 at 13:48

Trump better get a good food taster. Those billionaires would much rather deal with Pence.

  11. maggiemoo November 9th, 2016 at 13:56

Florida delivered by Jeb for Bush in 2000. Would not be surprised if Scott delivered again.

Those who forget [United States circa 1863-1866] are doomed to repeat [United States circa 1863-1866].

  13. CHOCOL8MILK November 9th, 2016 at 15:37

Now the GOP are in a tough spot since they have the Presidency and Congress. They’ll have to put their money where their mouth has been these many years about healthcare reform and actually do something.
