Foster children removed from home of Oregon militia militant

Oregon militia spokesman Robert “LaVoy” Finicum told OPB that the four foster children who had been living with him and his wife on their Chino Valley, Arizona, ranch have been taken away. “I hope people are seeing the sacrifices we’re making here,” he said.
The rancher estimated that more than 50 boys, often caming from group homes, drug rehabs, and psychiatric institutions, have lived with them in the past decade. “My ranch has been a great tool for these boys,” Finicum said. “It has done a lot of good.”
This was a business for Finicum, as OPB reports:
That represents an enormous loss of income for the Finicums. According to a 2010 tax filing, Catholic Charities paid the family $115,343 to foster children in 2009. That year, foster parents were compensated between $22.31 and $37.49 per child, per day, meaning if the Finicums were paid at the maximum rate, they cared for, on average, eight children per day in 2009.
“That was my main source of income,” Finicum said. “My ranch, well, the cows just cover the costs of the ranch. If this means rice and beans for the next few years, so be it. We’re going to stay the course.”

I’m glad this fool brought attention to himself and the children have been pulled.
He does NOT meet the licensure guidelines for required financial stability if fostering was his main source of income.
The laws are very clear and in place for the protection of the children so that the per diem paid can be solely used for the support and needs of the children, NOT for the subsistence of the foster parent. All foster parents must be financially stable and viable without the per diem payments.
This may be why the FBI and other agencies have appeared slow to move in Oregon. They may simply have been investigating all of the stakeholders in this fiasco, including the impact on innocent foster kids, and taking care of the innocents first.

There are so many problems with this story about a person who hates the government he is living off of. The main problem is the boys lives are being uprooted again. I have worked with troubled youth and the main thing they need is consistency. To have them removed from a place they considered home can be detrimental to their situation. This jerk chose to be with this band of idiots over the boys, I hope he works to overcome his terrible choices so he can provide a place for these boys again some day.

I just can’t imagine a person fostering kids without caring for them. I can see your point about making them work for free, but I have heard of foster parents who only foster one gender or the other so they can share bedrooms and there is no need to worry about kids playing ‘doctor’. I am sure I gave them too much credit, I just hate that we live in a world that has allows adults to abuse kids.

some are in foster (well far too many) because they are abused by their bio parents, no way should a child be in a home that he/she is used for labor and psychological abuse by non-bio parents. 50 boys? not one girl? they had room to place 2 girls in together. these children were used for profit, nothing more.
