Texas Republican Wants Vote Seceding From U.S.

Posted by | November 25, 2015 11:35 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

An executive committee member of the Texas Republican Party wants a vote on whether the state should leave the union.

…Tanya Robertson “already has support from a few other members” for her resolution, noting that she “got the idea for the resolution from the Texas Nationalist Movement.”

…The Texas Nationalist Movement, a far-right anti-government group, is hoping to include a resolution on the March primary ballot reading: “The State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation. FOR or AGAINST.”

In case anyone’s interested, here’s the Annexation Agreement 1845

    http://thetexasrepublic.com/history-of-this-republic/1845-annexation-agreement/

  3. Thomas_T November 25th, 2015 at 16:14

While the Texas agreement to join the union in 1845 included provisions to split Texas into as many as 5 states later, this was resolved in the Civil war after Texas rejoined the union as a single state. When Texas seceded during the civil war the deal with the 1845 agreement was void and upon readmitted, the entire state was accepted as a single unit.

The Republic of Texas actually did lose territory after it joined the Union, part is New Mexico, part is Colorado, part is Oklahoma, part is Kansas and Wyoming.

Seems these Texans need a history lesson. It has already been divided and such.

    • grannygrey50 November 27th, 2015 at 08:48

AHHHH! I see another one learned their Texas History.. Congratulations..and I am NOT being snarky! I used to teach Texas History.

    • Dwendt44 November 25th, 2015 at 18:12

But we’d still have Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

      • Robert Miller November 25th, 2015 at 18:19

Unfortunately you are correct. It makes me want to get drunk.

        • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 18:48

  15. Beau Phillips November 26th, 2015 at 02:55

On one hand, Ted Cruz would be a foreigner again… but on the other, he might move…

    • grannygrey50 November 27th, 2015 at 08:36

  16. bpollen November 26th, 2015 at 04:16

    • cecilia November 27th, 2015 at 21:05

I don’t want it back. I want to build a giant wall around that hell hole and let them rot in there

      • Robert Kennedy November 29th, 2015 at 01:19

If I owned Hell and Texas I’d live in Hell and sell Texas.

  17. The Original Just Me November 26th, 2015 at 05:43

I think I want to temporarily move to Texas so I can support her and vote for idea. BUT, if Texas became an Independent Country, they would be the Biggest askers for U.S. Foreign Aid.

    • fahvel November 26th, 2015 at 10:24

nah, you just want one supercool passport with bull horns and cowboys and not one single immigrunt.

      • The Original Just Me November 26th, 2015 at 10:42

One super cool with bull horns, I’m thinking 1964, Pink, Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, with Long Horns on the hood, for a campaign wagon complete with BIG PA system. Oh, don’t forget the ten gallon White cowboy hat.

        • Robert Kennedy November 29th, 2015 at 01:18

As if there are ten gallons of brains in the entire Texas Republican party.

    • cecilia November 27th, 2015 at 21:04

they can ask – it doesn’t mean they’ll get anything

      • The Original Just Me November 27th, 2015 at 21:11

Good! Which means America finally gets rid of Ted Cruz.

    • rg9rts November 27th, 2015 at 04:43

      and Gohmert, Perry, DeLay, Abbot……………

  19. Paul Muenkel November 26th, 2015 at 06:25

We can move the troops out of Ft. Hood along with their equipment and paychecks. Then move NASA out. The NFL might have to boot the Cowboys and Texans since it is the National Football League, not the International League. But by all means go.

    • Dwendt44 November 26th, 2015 at 12:53

Texas has more military bases than any other state IIRC, and you can bet that those military pay checks make up a huge part of Texas’s economy. That will be gone, as will NASA, and a bunch of other federal agencies and departments.
Commit economic suicide, I dare you Texas.

      • tracey marie November 26th, 2015 at 13:00

texas just whined for disater relief money from Obama, Texas are bitchin because the money is coming “so late”…meanwhile the truth is Abbot just asked for money a week ago…Obama’s fault.

    • grannygrey50 November 26th, 2015 at 21:22

The worst part is that Texas could actually almost survive as a country. BUT..not too sure if the corporations with the refineries, and chemical plants in the Houston area would like to have to deal with taxes in both Texas and then have the US place tariffs on their goods for them to come into the country. They can be self-sufficient in energy, they are the world’s 5th largest producer of rices. BUT, then what would the status of those born or living in Texas be? Are they US citizens still? What would happen to all those who paid into SS and are collecting? They do have National Guard units..so they would have a military..after a fashion..They would lose the Space Center at NASA.. I am sure, she would love to write the budget to pay for the interstates that are in Texas, and how would they settle the issue of all the US federal lands there? I would love it if someone would ask her some questions. Not sure Cruz would like giving up his salary, and then, there really could be some serious questions about his ‘birthright”.

      • rg9rts November 27th, 2015 at 04:41

And who would the go to …hat in hand and palm out when natural disaster strikes…they are the first to deny aid to the blue but first in line to get Federal bucks

        • cecilia November 27th, 2015 at 21:01

I would love NOT given those losers tax money form my State

          • rg9rts November 27th, 2015 at 22:13

The red states get more back than they put in….who makes up the difference??? Except Kansas…but that is a planet unto its own

      • OrdinaryNeutronAlley November 29th, 2015 at 02:21

If Texas were to secede, they are on their own. Federal monies would cease for anyone there, Vets benefits, LOTS of that, any Federal benefits would just stop.

Either those that have paid into Social Security stay in the U.S. or it’s lost. HARDBALL is the only way to play with Texans. I know that because of Donald Trump…..(humor ?)

They aren’t very bright and if they do this, then that will be MORE than obvious to anyone.

        • b4k9zp November 30th, 2015 at 04:40

Yeah, we’d take our 3rd largest economy in the western hemisphere with us, depriving the US government of about 3/4ths of its tax revenue, making its deficits 3 trillion dollars per year instead of the 1.2 trillion per year that they are running now.

          • OrdinaryNeutronAlley November 30th, 2015 at 10:31

WRONG CRAB CAKES Man! RED States take more Federal dollars than they contribute to the Federal government. You couldn’t be more than 100% WRONG on this stuff or can you be?

Half of the Texas economy is military bases, salaries and Veterans pensions. So subtract that money from whatever inaccurate figures you’re trying to slide on by the dimwitted OLD MAN.

You are just simply STUPID and an uncorrectable MORON.
You could be MORE than 100% WRONG because for you anything that relates to stupidity is POSSIBLE DUMB AS DIRT TEA Bagged IDIOT! ! ! GO THE FUCK AWAY ASSHOLE……

      • whatthe46 November 29th, 2015 at 02:40

“BUT, then what would the status of those born or living in Texas be? Are they US citizens still?” nope! “Are they US citizens still? What would happen to all those who paid into SS and are collecting?” maybe they should have thought about that first. you leave you lose. “They do have National Guard units..so they would have a military..after a fashion.” I don’t’ see how. the military doesn’t belong to them. therefore, that lose any rights to them.

        • grannygrey50 November 29th, 2015 at 14:58

National Guard units are STATE militia…and are under the control of the Governor unless the Feds call them to active duty. So, they would ‘kind of have’ a military. The US government has given Guard units weaponry, planes, tanks, etc..so..they would have those still…

          • DetroitSam November 29th, 2015 at 19:04

Until the weaponry, planes, tanks, etc., break down. Let’s see them manufacture their replacement parts. Or they could purchase defective parts from some third world country.

  20. grannygrey50 November 26th, 2015 at 20:07

Actually, mea_mark, she could be. When Texas decided to join the US as a state in 1849, they did maintain the right to secede. They did secede during the Civil War. In order to be allowed to rejoin the Union after the war, they had to give up that right. Obviously she did not bother paying attention to Texas History in school there. I taught Texas History, and this is one fact which a lot of people forget about secession for Texas .. HOWEVER, there are times I would like to throw them out…trouble is, I am married to a native Texan.. BUT..he is NOT of her ilk.

    • rg9rts November 27th, 2015 at 04:38

Texas History is in constant revision by the Texas Board of Education under the mandate to write history as they remember it…not as it was
