Posted by | November 25, 2015 11:35 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

An executive committee member of the Texas Republican Party wants a vote on whether the state should leave the union.

…Tanya Robertson “already has support from a few other members” for her resolution, noting that she “got the idea for the resolution from the Texas Nationalist Movement.”

…The Texas Nationalist Movement, a far-right anti-government group, is hoping to include a resolution on the March primary ballot reading: “The State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation. FOR or AGAINST.”

    Right-winger nut to the core!

  2. Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 11:41

It’s not happening. It was illegal the first time, it still is. Let’s say we let them secede. Who’s going to provide jobs for all those Texans who used to work at all those military bases which will now close? You can’t create an entire country, with all that entails, by waving a magic wand. This vote, if it happens, and it won’t, will be every bit as symbolic as the 367 million “Repeal Obamacare” votes the GOP tried. And every bit as useful.

    • mea_mark November 25th, 2015 at 11:43

It’s another great way to waste taxpayer dollars though, so the GOP will probably all for it. The faster they ruin the economy the better it seems.

  3. mea_mark November 25th, 2015 at 11:42

Well, I would like to see Tanya Robertson accused of and charged with treason.

    • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 11:48

Instead of the phony charges of treason they keep throwing at the president. They seem to think doing his job is treason.

    • Carla Akins November 30th, 2015 at 14:28

Tanya Robertson that I went to high school with, or Tanya Robertson the Charlie’s Angel. And why are you hating on a Charlie’s angel?

  4. arc99 November 25th, 2015 at 11:54

Fine. Get the f*ck out of my country. We will then build a wall to keep out those pesky illegal Texans after they figure out they just killed the goose laying the golden egg and all those tax dollars are now going to California or New York or some other place where sane people run the government.

    http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/rick-newman/2011/08/16/how-rick-perry-created-jobs-in-texas

Federal government jobs. Texas: Up 7 percent. U.S.: Up 4.3 percent. Nationwide, the federal government has been a steady source of job growth over the last three years, and Texas has gotten more than its share, thanks to several big Army bases and a heavy NASA presence. Texas is one of the biggest beneficiaries of Washington spending, which pumps more than $200 billion per year into the state economy, according to the New York Times. That reliance on federal money could backfire if there are cutbacks in military and space spending in coming years, as many analysts expect.

  6. aNYYANKEEinQueenHaleysCourt November 25th, 2015 at 12:16

wouldn’t it be easier for her to just move….seems like lots of work to secede…plus a US flag with 49 stars is soooo 1959!

    • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 12:17

There never was one. They went from 48 to 50, since AK and HI were so close together.

      • aNYYANKEEinQueenHaleysCourt November 25th, 2015 at 12:18

        OH YOU ARE RIGHT:

49-Star Flag: On January 3rd,1959 Alaska was formally granted statehood placing the 49th star on our Flag.Executive Order of President Eisenhower dated January 3, 1959 – provided for the arrangement of the stars in seven rows of seven stars each, staggered horizontally and vertically.

The first 49-star flag was made in the Army Quartermaster Depot at Philadelphia, and was used in the White House ceremony when President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961) signed the proclamation admitting Alaska to the Union. Subsequently, this flag was carried to Philadelphia by Senator Hugh Scott of Pennsylvania, who gave it to the mayor of Philadelphia to raise over Independence Hall on July 4th, 1959. After these ceremonies Scott gave the flag to his colleague, Senator Earnest Gruening of Alaska, who, in turn, delivered it to Governor William A. Eagan to be flown over the state capitol at Juneau. This flag was later given to the Alaskan State Mueseum for preservation.

The 49-Star flag was official for only one year, until July 4, 1960, when Hawaii achieved its Statehood and the 50-Star flag was born. President Eisenhower was the only President to serve under this flag.

          Thanks, I never knew that.

                      Through the tears I’m guessing.

          • Robert Kennedy November 29th, 2015 at 01:31

I used to have a 49 star flag.

    • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 12:20

We could put DC in their place, therefore no messy flag business.

  7. anothertoothpick November 25th, 2015 at 12:20

Texas is right in the middle of the taker states.

So here is how it works. The states that have the good paying union jobs, lose what they fight for every day because they have to give the gain to the taker states in taxes.

  8. labman57 November 25th, 2015 at 12:26

People who promote secession are not interested in rational, cogent analyses of the logistical and economic implications of becoming an independent government.
We are dealing with chest-thumping, self-serving politicians and pundits who are chumming the waters, seeking their moment in the spotlight by encouraging a lynch mob mentality in the populace.

Right wing politicos making threats of secession are analogous to an immature child who decides to pack up his marbles and go home because his friends won’t let him win every time.

    • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 12:27

Or threatens to hold his breath if he doesn’t get his way.

      • labman57 November 25th, 2015 at 12:29

Same mentality exhibited by Teddy Cruz who threatens a government shutdown every few months.
Must be something in the Texas water supply.

        • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 12:34

i must be immuned to it then.

          • Suzanne McFly November 25th, 2015 at 12:57

I drink filtered rain water collected off the roof before it ever hits the ground and the GOP have a chance to taint it with their evil vile spirit that comes from way down below.

              • Suzanne McFly November 25th, 2015 at 21:16

Oh man, that stuff ain’t from frackin’? Well now I have to quit drinking that fluid that runs down the sides of the trails I walk on. I might turn into a back asswards judgmental freak.

  9. halfwayin November 25th, 2015 at 12:40

Whenever there is an abundance of Union construction work up here, you will find a long line of duelies towing horse trailers, (they will live in the horse trailer) with Texas license plates out in front of our union hall. They have to get Union work permits, and hired through the union hall. Because we are NOT a right to work state, they also have to pay dues that equals one hour of pay per month. And do they ever scream and bitch about that.

When I ask them “why don’t you guys get together and form unions down in there in Texas ya all?”

They always answer “We hate unions”.

And yet they will drive thousands of miles and live in a horse trailer just to make a good wage.

  10. Foundryman November 25th, 2015 at 12:40

Draw a line straight across from new mexico to Louisiana and they can have everything south of that line. That’s fair, it’ll make it easier for us to build a wall to keep them out.

    • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 13:03

      At what point?

      • Foundryman November 25th, 2015 at 16:46

From the SE corner of NM to the LA state line near Logansport. But it would need gerrymandered to pick up Ft Hood, they don’t get that.

        • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 17:26

You call that gerrymandering? That’s nothing compared to what the republicans have done. They had to be playing some insane variation on Twister to come up with some of their districts.

    • anothertoothpick November 25th, 2015 at 13:04

And make them pay for the wall. And like it!

      • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 13:04

We’ll put tRump in charge of building it.

        • anothertoothpick November 25th, 2015 at 13:06

At cost plus. And push tRump to the south side of it.

          • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 13:06

            It’ll be a yuuuuuge wall.

    • dewired4u November 25th, 2015 at 15:54

we get to keep New Orleans though.

    • Aunt Pee November 25th, 2015 at 23:03

Will that be a “yooge” and classy Donald Trump wall?

  11. Suzanne McFly November 25th, 2015 at 12:55

I am all for it once we get everyone out that wants to get out.

  12. Stan Ubeki November 25th, 2015 at 13:26

She just “got the idea”? Is secession a new idea for her? She is too stupid to know she is stupid.

    • dewired4u November 25th, 2015 at 15:52

      like a goldfish in a bowl ….OH LOOK A CASTLE…..

  13. Stan Ubeki November 25th, 2015 at 13:27

I think it should be a national ballot issue: “Shall Texas be ejected from the Union?

  14. Guy Lauten November 25th, 2015 at 13:29

after all, it went so well the last time they tried it, right?
doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.
ahem. to what do we attribute such behavior?

  15. Bunya November 25th, 2015 at 13:36

Hey, I’m all for it. Then when they want to start a war with the Middle East or Russia, they’re on their own. We’ll just tell Putin to make smaller bombs because Texass is their own country now.

  16. William November 25th, 2015 at 13:52

    Deal?

    • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 19:16

does that black male or female, realize that if that were to happen, they’d be a slave under the rule of their country?

      • The Original Just Me November 26th, 2015 at 06:02

No worry, they probably can’t spell Slave either.

  17. Dave Taylor November 25th, 2015 at 13:55

If they did they would have to form and pay for their own Military and Border Patrol, Militias i guess, Get an International drivers license to drive in the U.S. Work permits and visas to work in U.S. Raise taxes to pay for things they get from Government

now like S.S. unemployment, oil subsidies etc. make trade agreements with U.S. Government and other Countries, i could go on and on about the things they would miss out on but lastly they would need to write a new Constitution and Bill of Rights, get a new flag and a new National Anthem because they don’t get ours.

    • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 18:53

If Texas leaves the Union, who will pay for the fence between it and Mexico ?

      • tracey marie November 26th, 2015 at 07:25

While they whine to leave the Union they are also whining for federal dollars because of floods.

        • The Original Just Me November 26th, 2015 at 09:53

The first Article in their new constitution will be; Apply to U.S. for Yuuggggee foreign Aid package.

          • Robert Kennedy November 29th, 2015 at 01:25

Better idea, let’s give them the designation “Least Favored Nation” and cut off all trade with them.

      • Dwendt44 November 26th, 2015 at 13:00

the welfare funds that would have gone to Texas would pay for the fence. and/or refuse to give Texas foreign aid until THEY build a fence.

  20. Gina Bousquet November 25th, 2015 at 14:55

    I’m a foreigner, but I believe this is unconstitutional…
