American Boots On The Ground? Boehner: We Have No Choice

House Speaker John Boehner told ABC’s George Stephanopolous that President Obama’s current strategy is insufficient to defeat ISIS.

“If the goal is to destroy ISIS, as the president says it is, I don’t believe the strategy that he outlined will accomplish that,” Boehner told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview for ABC News in Portland, Maine, this week. “At the end of the day, I think it’s going to take more than air strikes to drive them out of there. At some point somebody’s boots have to be on the ground.”

“American?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“Listen, the president doesn’t want to do that,” Boehner answered. “If I were the president, I probably wouldn’t have talked about what I wouldn’t do — and maybe we can get enough of those forces trained to get them on the battlefield, but somebody’s boots have to be there.”

“If no one else will step up, would you recommend putting American boots on the ground?” Stephanopoulos pressed.

“We have no choice,” Boehner warned. “These are barbarians. They intend to kill us, and if we don’t destroy them first, we’re going to pay the price.”

“…At some point somebody’s boots have to be on the ground.” But, not yours, John. Or anyone in your family, right? War always looks better from the bottom of a rose colored wine glass. Tip a few more, John, perhaps we can nuke the bastards back to the eleventh century.

That would be fitting, since the GOP wants the rest of the world to join them IN the eleventh century…

I would say if the goal is to eliminate ISIS, no better, faster or least expensive way than just nuking ’em into oblivion. No boots on the ground, no US casualties + our now bestest friends in Iran would get some really beautiful sunsets – IF, they are REALLY serious about stopping them, but somehow I get the feeling all the Republicans are after is some high casualty long duration offshore bank account deposits while sitting comfortably back here waving the US Flag and talking about what great patriots they are for supporting offshore banking.

Don’t forget, Ms Lindsee, needs to have her books on.

Lindsay Graham? Or, as Charles Pierce calls him, Senator Huckleberry Butchmeup…..

Go back to the campaign trail, John. You’re a much better candidate than you are a Speaker of the House…..

Whether we like it or not America will eventually make the ultimate sacrifice by putting more boots on the ground. The mongers are foaming at the mouth at the thought of more war. This endless “war on terror” just keeps on keeping on….

    • granpa.usthai September 28th, 2014 at 15:44

as long as they’ve got the gumption to pass a law granting the immediate death penalty for any ‘American’ caught profiteering off a war that cost AMERICAN Military Casualties. (they can have all the war they want),

      +

all offshore banking is to be outlawed for US citizens until a full disclosure of where the funds came from and whose accounts the funds are going into.

War on terror or undeclared war(s)
      it gets confusing at times

    Barbarians?

Well, you may be on to something there.

1980’s – same ‘ Barbarians’ were our bestest friends against the Iranian ‘Barbarians’.

Guess it just goes to show what an extended friendship with Republicans can lead to?

Bet Boner has spent a ton on cigs…tanning beds…and golf. Oh wait…he hasn’t spent any of his own money on these things. He can thank the real American tax payers for all of their “contributions” to his cause…
