American Boots On The Ground? Boehner: We Have No Choice

House Speaker John Boehner told ABC’s George Stephanopolous that President Obama’s current strategy is insufficient to defeat ISIS.

“If the goal is to destroy ISIS, as the president says it is, I don’t believe the strategy that he outlined will accomplish that,” Boehner told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview for ABC News in Portland, Maine, this week. “At the end of the day, I think it’s going to take more than air strikes to drive them out of there. At some point somebody’s boots have to be on the ground.”

“American?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“Listen, the president doesn’t want to do that,” Boehner answered. “If I were the president, I probably wouldn’t have talked about what I wouldn’t do — and maybe we can get enough of those forces trained to get them on the battlefield, but somebody’s boots have to be there.”

“If no one else will step up, would you recommend putting American boots on the ground?” Stephanopoulos pressed.

“We have no choice,” Boehner warned. “These are barbarians. They intend to kill us, and if we don’t destroy them first, we’re going to pay the price.”

Question: Are the Republicans who opposed Obama on the Affordable care act because they were racist now not racist if they support Obama’s war in Syria & Iraq?

    • dave-dr-gonzo September 28th, 2014 at 13:35

You mean Bush’s war. ISIS is a direct consequence of the Cheney-Bush Doctrine.

great point Dave. Most of the leadership in ISIS were disenfranchised by Al-Maliki’s US selected dictatorship. As I’m apt to say, I just don’t think they’re all that interested in hearing what’s going to be taken away from them – AGAIN. Mostly they just want their own little country with their own little laws, kinda like the original 13 colonies. If we’re going to defeat ’em, it means we’ll have to destroy them – which won’t be that easy when they mingle with the locals.

Question: Are the right wingers who continually misrepresent the opinions of people who believe race has played a part in the criticism of the President, deserving of an answer to their intellectually dishonest questions?

      Answer: No

Republicans never met a war they didn’t like. I’m all for boots on the ground – as long as Dick Cheney, John Boehner and John McCain are wearing them. Young Americans, however, should stay home and live their lives.

Don’t forget, Ms Lindsee, needs to have her boots on.

“At some point somebody’s boots have to be on the ground.”

Are you volunteering, Boehner? Maybe on behalf of your kids or grandkids?

Where was his response to the question of when is he calling Congress back so they can vote on this? I am sure this question was asked, right?

The Worst Speaker of the House John Boehner said “we have no choice.”

    Hold your horses, John.

    Here is a better choice:

Why not ask Israel to send 1500, or even more IDF on the ground to fight the ISIS?

    We pay for their boots.

I’m sure John Boehner, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and the rest of them including their entire family members will be the first in line.

He alos said: “If I were the president.”

You are not, John, you are not even capable of doing your job as the Speaker of the House, you can’t even control the crazies in your own party, you are useless.

Your opinions or suggestions do not matter.

No, we don’t have to put boots on the ground to fight a ground war, period. All we have to do is contain them and keep them away. The people of the Middle east need to put their boots to work protecting their homeland if they want to live in any kind of peace. If those in the ME don’t, they will live in the chaos that is their homeland until they decide to do something about it. We can help them and we should. We should not put our lives at such great risk though for a people that don’t care about their own homeland. If they don’t care, why should we?

“…At some point somebody’s boots have to be on the ground.” But, not yours, John. Or anyone in your family, right? War always looks better from the bottom of a rose colored wine glass. Tip a few more, John, perhaps we can nuke the bastards back to the eleventh century.

    • searambler September 28th, 2014 at 14:53

That would be fitting, since the GOP wants the rest of the world to join them IN the eleventh century…

    • granpa.usthai September 28th, 2014 at 15:35

I would say if the goal is to eliminate ISIS, no better, faster or least expensive way than just nuking ’em into oblivion. No boots on the ground, no US casualties + our now bestest friends in Iran would get some really beautiful sunsets – IF, they are REALLY serious about stopping them, but somehow I get the feeling all the Republicans are after is some high casualty long duration offshore bank account deposits while sitting comfortably back here waving the US Flag and talking about what great patriots they are for supporting offshore banking.
