Armed Militia Group To Confront African-American Democrats At Polling Places In Wisconsin

Posted by | September 20, 2014 19:35 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

A self-described armed militia group in Wisconsin plans to target African American Democrats and responded to the controversy in the typical way: You’re a racist if you call out racism.  “We prefer our people be armed,” Wisconsin Poll Watcher Militia’s Facebook page reads. “Some will be heading to some of Milwaukee, Racine, and Beloit’s worst areas. We will be armed with a list of people to look for at each location.”

The dialogue was tagged on Twitter, then posted on PoliticusUSA.

A photo in the group’s Facebook page shows exactly the type of areas they will be targeting.

Patrick Murray specifically says his group won’t be targeting Republicans. Only Democrats.

The group responded on Facebook saying, “We can assure you that we will be targeting all democrats, not just black ones. If you think we meant blacks only it is because you are a racist who thinks the only people with warrants are black. We know better because we have a nice list of people who are wanted democrat activist types. Most are actually white. We will target everyone.”

In the same breath that he said he’ll target “everyone” he said only Democrats.

PoliticusUSA reports:

The fact that they are targeting a specific group of individuals based on race and perceived political affiliation means that their operation is a violation of the Voting Rights Act. According to the Justice Department, “The administration of elections is chiefly a function of state government. However, federal authorities may become involved where there are possible violations of federal law. In cases where intimidation, coercion, or threats are made or attempts to intimidate, threaten or coerce are made to any person for voting or attempting to vote, the Department of Justice can consider whether there is federal jurisdiction to bring civil claims or criminal charges under federal law. Depending on the nature of the allegations, they may fall into the jurisdiction of different parts of the Department. If you have information about allegations of intimidation, please contact us.”

These are Scott Walker’s supporters. How terribly embarrassing.

Contact the Department of Justice here. Because someone has to be watching this armed militia while they intimidate voters. November 4th is right around the corner. Don’t be intimidated.

no guns are allowed within 100feet of the entrance to the polling precinct, fedral law. No one is allowed to harrass or stop anyone from voting, period federal law, these inbred racist fools will be arrested

We hope so, at least.. But with the state they’re in? We really can’t tell right now.

      • tracey marie September 20th, 2014 at 23:27

no, the law stands and the judges and the poll watchers will make it happen. Poll watchers call the cops as well as the judges and judges have the power to make someone leave.

        • Red Mann September 21st, 2014 at 00:10

And the right will scream loudly about the intimidation they were subjected to.

From this article only(excluding author’s titling and their own input), I don’t see where the jerks said anything about blacks in particular.
That being said, anyone know WHY they are going around to these areas w/lists? I mean, ok, they go to an area, see someone on their list, then what? Why are they ‘looking’ for anyone at all? Are they going to yell at them, or tell them to go away… did they say what their goal is? Seems kind of like an exercise in wasting time to me. I never did understand people who think they are ‘intimidating’ people going to vote since the intimidator has no way of knowing how someone will or did vote to begin with; when the black panthers were found guilty a few years ago of it, I didn’t get why they would risk jail on something that doesn’t seem to me to have much chance of success any how.

      Follow the link:

“A visit to the group’s Facebook page features makes it clear exactly who they are targeting. All of the pictures on the page feature African-Americans. The group is trying to get African-Americans who may have outstanding warrants arrested in order to keep them from voting. The group wants people to report those they suspect of having warrants out on them to the police on election day, “Do the community a favor and keep an eye out for people wanted on warrants and report them to the police on election day.”

The “poll watchers” also plan on harassing and following people who they suspect of being wanted on warrants to their homes. The plan seems to be to use the police to intimidate African-Americans into not voting in November’s election.

The group admits that they are targeting Democrats. They aren’t exactly subtle in making it clear that they are targeting African-American voters. The scheme is an attempt to intimidate African-American voters while getting around the Voting Rights Act. The point of this campaign isn’t to get felons off the streets. The “poll watchers” are trying to keep African-Americans away from the polls.”

“I don’t see where the jerks said anything about blacks in particular”
I think it was referred to obliquely in the comments, about these Democratic voters having a certain “look” about them.

“Seems kind of like an exercise in wasting time to me.”
You don’t have to suppress a huge number of votes in order to have an effect. Look at Florida in 2000. If a few hundred more people had been allowed to exercise their right to vote, Al Gore would have become President and recent history would have been much different.

“I never did understand people who think they are ‘intimidating’ people
going to vote since the intimidator has no way of knowing how someone
will or did vote to begin with”

I think it’s pretty clear that if an armed thug sees an African-American going to the polls, chances are pretty slim that he or she will be voting Republican. If they scare him or her away, the odds are in their favor.

“when the black panthers were found guilty a few years ago of it”
The Black Panthers were guilty of nothing. They were acting as tough looking doormen in a predominantly African-American neighborhood. It’s a shame that a lot of white people think that Black people are inherently “intimidating” (ref. Ben Stein shaking in his boots at the sight of Michael Brown’s “incredibly strong, scary self”)

      • Spirit of America September 20th, 2014 at 23:24

“The Black Panthers were guilty of nothing” they were found guilty, then at the sentencing stage charges were dropped. They were found guilty though.

One guy with a nightstick that never actually intimidated anyone was very, very bad, but multiple people with guns is not a problem? WTF?

It’s implied just as your tacit approval is implied when you ignore the current issue with your pathetic attempt to deflect attention to an essentially non-existent “Black Panther” case.

              • Spirit of America September 23rd, 2014 at 04:56

No, it is not implied, you wish it to be there so you see it there, but it wasn’t implied. And as for the ‘tacit approval’ did you miss me calling them jerks and it being a waste of time? Some way to approve of something…
I don’t approve of wrong doing, regardless of who is doing it. Hence my reference to the black panther… that wasn’t a deflection, it was to show disapproval to an activity, regardless of who.

    • CandideThirtythree September 21st, 2014 at 19:55

There were no black panthers found guilty of anything, it has been to trial several times and dropped…so stop lying… that is just another of the millions of lies you white supremacists tell.

Another horrible example of this New Jim Crow. It will be interesting to see how cities and their polilce respond to these “poll watchers” on election day. Or more importanly before that. Where possible courts should set a week or two for people to clear warrants, pay fines or make reasonable arrangements for payment, Otherwise, I fear, we could see violence at Wisconsin polling places where the memory of Michael Brown and Ferguson MO remain vivid reminders to both minority citiizens and law enforcement.

    • Cats r Flyfishn September 25th, 2014 at 19:22

Poll Watcher is an official term and requires a certificate signed by the board of elections. A “Poll Watcher” is allowed inside the poll for the purpose of counting the number of people that vote. I’ve done this several times. Last time for the Obama campaign and all I had to do was periodically report the number of voters. I had to sit away from the voting booths and I was not to talk to any voters prior to casting their vote. These so-called poll watchers are impostors and the judge of elections has every right to have them removed.

      • greenfloyd September 25th, 2014 at 21:31

Unfortunately I think these people plan to profile people standing on line outside the polling place proper.
