Open Carry Protesters In Virginia Upsetting Shoppers

Posted by | July 30, 2014 09:46 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

Men seen open carrying long rifles right in front of busy stores in Carytown, Virginia, has made shoppers uneasy, but the groups says they’re just protecting their rights. Even though the people of Carytown are unnerved by their presence, the gun dorks insist they are trying to make people feel more safe.

Reggie Bowles said, “I always see people want to down firearms, but no one wants to be an advocate for them.”

Bowles is correct. For the Fourth of July, more than 300 people were invited by this group on Facebook to march, but only two showed up. Bowles and Spitzer were the only ones marching. That’s just sad.

Jason Spitzer, who’s been filming the open carry walks while passing out flyers to shoppers, joined him on his crusade to protect his rights which are not being threatened.

“I understand they are trying to exercise their right but to do it in a public place is trying to create fear for the public,” shopper Shanti Coleman said.

Bowles says fear isn’t their goal, according to WRIC.

“Try to tell them I don’t want to strike fear in them, it’s just a means of self protection,” Bowles said.

Spencer Beasley works at a Carytown business and he said some customers are concerned.

“A few customers have complained in the store just mentioning, ‘hey you seen those guys out there?'” Beasley said.

People have been calling the police and Bowles hopes that doesn’t keep happening.

“I’ve been in a couple of stores where they ask me to leave it outside, I respect their wishes,” Bowles said.

The group plans another formal walk this Saturday, because obviously, enough people aren’t frightened already and there are more businesses to hurt. Open Carry narcissists one again display their disregard for the public. Just because you have a right, that doesn’t mean you should use it to make others feel unsafe.

Agree with Carla they look silly and awkward, I think they still live with moma the clothes are very ? if they were women they would be frumpy or dowdy, I guess nerds? Best to carry concealed, don’t give away your secret, train with the weapon, store it in a secure spot away from dummies, kids and the mentally ill, be prepared to use it when the time comes, if you can’t manage to do this, don’t carry period, stay away from weapons. A little off topic but I just got my power and DSL hooked up I lost my roof in a sever typhoon.

Carla Akins … the folks who play D&D in mom’s basement are more stable and mature. They would NEVER threaten people like these idiots do.

Come on folks, it’s called “Carrytown.” You really did not see this coming? They are “open carry activists,” (not what I’d call them, but that is how they are known) and they are engaged in what they consider an act of civil disobedience that generates lots of attention to their comical, albeit antisocial, behavior. And the really tragic and somewhat funny thing about it, most of you keep falling for it. If you really want to make these guys go away, ignore them!

Nope – CARYTOWN. It’s a small area, about 10-15 blocks, of Richmond. Kinda Bohemian in nature. Lots of restaurants, shopping areas, eclectic. The idiots drew a LOT of negative comments form locals, and even a lot of the pro-gun people commented on their stupidity.
Richmond, and Virginia, is not the idiot state of Texas. The Commonwealth has more common sense.

        Nope

Is that “Nope” you did not see it coming, or “Nope” the name of the place, “Carry Town” has nothing to do with these “open carry activists?” Frankly I don’t think it’s just a coincidence. But I really don’t know, or care that much. Just ignore them.

Sorry…it’s “Nope, it’s Carytown” (as in the name of the little area in the city). The street that runs thru is West Cary, but the area extends about a block or so north and south and about 10-12 blocks long.

I get the feeling we are not actually communicating: “Carytown” Sounds like: Carry Town, as in Open Carry Town.

Oh forget about it! Just ignore them and I’m sure they’ll go away.

We Virginians prefer to put ourselves above such nonsense.
Shaming their obvious stupidity and ignorance, especially by pro-gun members in this case, will do more than ignoring them. Besides, Carytown is full of strange and wonderful ‘characters’ who have better sense than these fools do. They put out a facebook invite to do this, with >300 accepting but only these idiots showed up. The reception they got from the shoppers and store owners proved they were not wanted. I’d be willing to bet they won’t be doing it again if they have ANY common sense at all.

These OC knuckle draggers actually did pick Carytown simply because of the name, they have admitted as much in other interviews. They had no idea that this mile of locally owned, artsy, culturally rich shopping and eating owned by some of the most liberal, educated and highly influential people in Richmond. Carytown is a Virginia treasure that draws weekday locals and weekend tourists (and LOTS of money). I have no doubt that they will get push back from Richmond.

I don’t know about new ordinances (in VA you can open carry now) but I do know that their stupidity drew a lot of negative comments from the pro-gun community in the area. As I said, this is not lunatic Texas. It’s Virginia. We’re far more civilized.
