Open Carry Protesters In Virginia Upsetting Shoppers

Men seen open carrying long rifles right in front of busy stores in Carytown, Virginia, has made shoppers uneasy, but the groups says they’re just protecting their rights. Even though the people of Carytown are unnerved by their presence, the gun dorks insist they are trying to make people feel more safe.

Reggie Bowles said, “I always see people want to down firearms, but no one wants to be an advocate for them.”

Bowles is correct. For the Fourth of July, more than 300 people were invited by this group on Facebook to march, but only two showed up. Bowles and Spitzer were the only ones marching. That’s just sad.

Jason Spitzer, who’s been filming the open carry walks while passing out flyers to shoppers, joined him on his crusade to protect his rights which are not being threatened.

“I understand they are trying to exercise their right but to do it in a public place is trying to create fear for the public,” shopper Shanti Coleman said.

Bowles says fear isn’t their goal, according to WRIC.

“Try to tell them I don’t want to strike fear in them, it’s just a means of self protection,” Bowles said.

Spencer Beasley works at a Carytown business and he said some customers are concerned.

“A few customers have complained in the store just mentioning, ‘hey you seen those guys out there?'” Beasley said.

People have been calling the police and Bowles hopes that doesn’t keep happening.

“I’ve been in a couple of stores where they ask me to leave it outside, I respect their wishes,” Bowles said.

The group plans another formal walk this Saturday, because obviously, enough people aren’t frightened already and there are more businesses to hurt. Open Carry narcissists one again display their disregard for the public. Just because you have a right, that doesn’t mean you should use it to make others feel unsafe.

I am a gun owner and I have to admit to not getting the purpose of open carrying long guns. I will support a persons right to do, but the inauspicious carry of a small sidearm is sufficient for self protection without grandstanding and understandably causing alarm in the average person given recent high profile killings. It is a good idea to consider optics and atmosphere when making a point.

Somehow “their right to carry” has been perverted into their “right” to scare other people and just make people uncomfortable. And when others use their First Amendment right to free speech, these losers stalk, threaten and harass them. And they get away with it over and over and over. The right to carry now means that nobody else has any rights. These guys think they’re badasses? Where I live things are settled with a good old-fashioned ass-kicking. These guys have never used their hands for anything but jerking off with their guns.

In Texas at least, part of the long gun open carry movement is to protest laws that BAN carrying a small side arm.

The Open Carry groups won’t really make their points until they open carry inside of their local police stations, banks, and inside of federal office buildings.

I live in Carytown, about half a block away from where these ammosexuals are playing soldier. I certainly don’t feel any safer having them here.

Glory days; Well they’ll pass you by
Glory days; in the blink of a gun nut’s eye
    Glory days, glory days

    I had a friend he was a D&D player
    back in high school
He couldn’t score with any of the girls there
He just looked like a fool boy
Saw him the other night at this Open Carry
He had an A K, I was walking by.
He took me aside, told me, “I’m important now,
in the news, this is my
    Glory days”

I keep thinking how when we did post rotation for chow in the Air Force during my days as a Security Police, how we NEVER took our weapons inside the chow, but left them with the post rotation leader. Now if you have a police badge, military uniform, and among military people and still don’t carry firearms into the chow hall because it makes people uncomfortable, then why the hell do you think it makes the average citizen feel safe. It is so easy to sell propaganda and I fear we buy more and more like addicts in this nation.

My solution? If you’re in a store or restaurant, and one or more armed men walk in, just get up and leave. Walk away. Most importantly, do not buy anything, and if you’re eating a meal, just leave it without paying. Force business owners to make a choice: normal paying customers, or ‘open carry’ people. Is it unfair to business owners? Maybe. Tough noogies. Let them get their money from the gun-carrying people who caused you to walk away. If asked, explain that you felt threatened and feared for your well-being. How are you expected to tell the difference between an ‘open carry’ enthusiast and a common criminal intent on committing a crime? They look the same. So just leave. If enough people do this, the businesses who allow open carry will eventually get the message. Or not, at the risk of going out business for lack of paying customers….

This is what I would do. A guy comes in with a gun, I am GONE. I’ll come back to settle the bill later. Maybe.

They can get the money from the micro-dick with the gun.
