Adorable: Protesters Have Hurt Feelings After Confederate Flags Were Taken Down

Organizers from the Sons of the Confederate Veterans held a rally in Lexington, Virginia, in protest to the administration at Washington and Lee University’s decision to remove Confederate battle flags from Lee Chapel.

250 People from Maryland to Georgia participated in the rally, obviously unaware that the South will not rise again.

According to the pro-Confederate protesters, the purpose of the rally is to get the University to reverse its decision and to educate those who may have some misconceptions about the controversial flag.

WSLS reports:

Historian David Chaltas spoke about Lee’s Christian background.

Chaltas says he wanted to clear any misconception about General Lee and that he taught African Americans to read the bible.

“At the very end he felt his mission was to make as much contribution to Christian education,” Chaltas said.

A supporter from Maryland, David Barber wants people to understand the confederate flag is a symbol of southern pride not discrimination.

“I don’t feel the flags were racist by no means it’s its a christian flag an American flag,” Barber said.

The Sons of the Confederate Veterans held the rally because Washington and Lee University decided to remove the battle flags from Lee Chapel.

They say the purpose of the event is give people a chance to express their feelings.

“There was no public dialogue about this we tried to get the university to get public forum on the matter prior to making any decision and we didn’t anticipate a decision before September,” Brandon Dorsey, Command of Stonewall Brigade Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans said.

And the KKK deem  themselves to be a Christian group, too, so I don’t see how that applies.

The Confederate flags were taken down after a group of multiracial law school students calling themselves The Committee demanded that the college stop glorifying Robert E. Lee and the Confederacy as well as acknowledge Lee and the university’s ownership of slaves.

Oh the pool little fee-fees of racist bigots are hurt because their flag was taken down.
Well, when their treasonous racist ancestors had it taken down the first time in 1865, I suppose some fee-fees of the losers were hurt too. They should learn to deal with it.

    controversial flag

Right, a symbol that’s about the right to own slaves, to providing a market for white people to keep them free from labor charges. Funny, most African-American people I know are Christians and I don’t see them waving around that misconception.

They LOST the Civil War. The Confederate flag is obsolete. It should be burned. Gawd–part of me wishes that they had “won” and seceded and built a very big fence so we wouldn’t be bothered with this crap. They’ve done nothing but cost us money and waste our time trying to drag us back to those heady antebellum days. How long has it been since they lost the war–about 150 years now?

    • tiredoftea July 27th, 2014 at 20:42

That’s about right. And, they have been a drain on the national treasury ever since!

Well, no. At the rate that red state governors are denying Medicaid and fighting the ACA, their citizens are dying out from under them. So, perversely, as long as southerners keep electing Teahadists, they’ll solve our fiscal problems sooner than if they embraced healthcare!

          • edmeyer_able July 28th, 2014 at 20:41

Problem is the short time they do live they’ll surely out breed those of us in the rest of the country.

            • tiredoftea July 28th, 2014 at 21:02

Good point. I forgot about the large numbers of brothers and sisters available to continue the germ line. At some point that fails, too, though.

The flag that is most commonly flown to represent the “Confederacy” is the Tennessee battle flag. The one that is shown in the photo is the Second official flag of the Confederacy. If they want to honor their ancestors, as they claim, they would fly a flag that represented the affirmation of state’s rights, not the flag that represented sedition and secession for the sake of expanding slavery to the Western states.

As an aside as a refutation of their claims that they are only honoring their heritage, not hating black people, we need only look at the history of the state flag of Georgia to see the timeline of its attachment to the battle flag.

Id like to know one thing about this flag that makes it a Christian Flag. Did Jesus Christ or his apostles teach followers to fly the confederate flag? Not!!! These are a sad bunch who still hold on to their warped anger over losing their white supremacy and their slave rights. Move On or get out.

    • Progressive Republican July 29th, 2014 at 04:58

It does have what could be referred to as St. Andrew’s cross as seen in the flag of Scotland (a white “X” on a blue field).
