Desperate GOP Congressional Candidate To Ply Donors With Guns, Ammo And Booze

It’s not uncommon to provide booze for donors, but combine that with guns and ammo for the high rollers and you’ve got a lethal cocktail and a disturbing message.

Andrew Walter, a Republican candidate in the state’s 9th congressional district, is slated to host an “Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms” fundraiser Friday at the Scottsdale Gun Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Guests can choose to donate at three levels, from a $1,000 “expert” ticket that buys access to four weapons plus 250 rounds of ammunition to a $250 “marksman” ticket that buys the chance to shoot a Glock 18 with a single box of ammo.

Walter’s campaign manager, Chris Tolino, told USA Today that alcohol and cigars will be provided at a nearby restaurant, not at the range, once the shooting is over. Donor response to the event had been positive so far, Tolino said.

Walter, who is a former NFL and Arizona State University quarterback, has trailed his primary opponent Wendy Rogers in fundraising, according to USA Today.

I don’t see anything wrong with this event, being held at a supervised firing range. No guns are being “given”, just the opportunity to try a variety, ammo supplied.

In fact, more lawmakers and media types should be given a chance to see what millions of us enjoy…safe, responsible, markmanship…especially those who rant and roar against the sport, and have never even tried it.

The chances of this event allowing “safe, responsible marksmanship” goes down significantly with the introduction of booze.

I doubt there are many safe, responsible gun owners who mix alcohol with their firearms.

Perhaps try reading the article in its entirety, and not just responding to the misleading headline…

Why should they read, it takes away from the argument….

          • John David Peer July 16th, 2014 at 10:55

I am astounded at the shallowness of the arguments I’m hearing here.
Really, anti-gunowners are their own worst enemy.
Well-intentioned or not, truth and logic just seems to fly out the door when any discussion of firearms comes up…as well as any desire to put the blame for violence where it belongs: social conditions.

I’m starting to think some of these gunowner haters may be mixing booze and liberaland, lol…

Sometimes I think it is more then just booze….

Yes, I was thinking marijuana…but then I remembered it’s “banned” in most states, and so no-one can get it…

I was thinking LSD, but if you want to go with the Pot theory, that’s OK with me to…

Sport ? Ask a VETERAN how “sporty” your “sexmunition” fetish is !

      • Pistol-Packing July 16th, 2014 at 10:42

There are many shooting sports. Skeet, cowboy, three gun, long range, target… And what is asking a veteran supposed to do. Almost all veterans I know partake in many of these events.

      • John David Peer July 16th, 2014 at 10:48

        Why?
It’s an Olympic sport, I think that’s enough for me.

Sorry about that particular inconvenient truth…

Nice try with the “veteran” card though, lol. I suppose I could ask one of the many that frequent my local range…but I think we’ll leave it at “Olympics”.

One day you Americans will realize that your gun violence comes mostly from your disgusting inequality, inner city poverty (the result of a long history of ingrained racism) and your failed “war” on drugs…

Wake up…it ain’t the guns, America, it’s YOU.

Wow, and they bitched about Obama giving out Reagan-phones!

    • John David Peer July 16th, 2014 at 11:07

Nobody is being “given” a firearm here, it’s an opportunity to perhaps try a firearm or two at a supervised range shoot.

Gallup informs us that 40% of Democrats either own a firearm, or live with someone who does.

So all the anti-gunowner vitriol that gets spewed by folks is incredibly self-defeating. Astounding, really.

Like watching a stray dog eat its own poop…

“Worst President in my lifetime” says Dick Cheney, crap Dick has been dead since the 60’s !

Man, no wonder Republicans can’t get elected: you give them $1000, and you get a CHANCE to shoot a gun. The Democrats have a lock on it: they only ask for their constituent’s vote and then they give them EBT cards to BUY the gun of their choice.
