Desperate GOP Congressional Candidate To Ply Donors With Guns, Ammo And Booze

Posted by | July 15, 2014 12:15 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

It’s not uncommon to provide booze for donors, but combine that with guns and ammo for the high rollers and you’ve got a lethal cocktail and a disturbing message.

Andrew Walter, a Republican candidate in the state’s 9th congressional district, is slated to host an “Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms” fundraiser Friday at the Scottsdale Gun Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Guests can choose to donate at three levels, from a $1,000 “expert” ticket that buys access to four weapons plus 250 rounds of ammunition to a $250 “marksman” ticket that buys the chance to shoot a Glock 18 with a single box of ammo.

Walter’s campaign manager, Chris Tolino, told USA Today that alcohol and cigars will be provided at a nearby restaurant, not at the range, once the shooting is over. Donor response to the event had been positive so far, Tolino said.

Walter, who is a former NFL and Arizona State University quarterback, has trailed his primary opponent Wendy Rogers in fundraising, according to USA Today.

Why stop at the booze and guns, where are the strippers and hookers?

    • mea_mark July 15th, 2014 at 12:57

Why not a grenade toss, to each other.

Like the raw egg toss, great idea!!!

    • BanditBasheert July 15th, 2014 at 13:13

It’s in Snotsdale- they’ll hire the hookers to come to the house.

I don’t know what’s sadder: this absurd non sequitar, or all the people “liking” it.

At any rate, where the sex trade is legal (which should be everywhere), I would see nothing wrong with including, say, a gift certificate to the Bunny Ranch in a silent auction, or similar…but not everyone would make use of it, so I can’t see just handing them out.

Whereas a day at the range is something most folks could enjoy!

It’s depressing that a candidate for office would offer guns and ammo to entice donors, and worse that it is apparently very effective.

    • Pistol-Packing July 15th, 2014 at 13:09

We did it here in New Jersey for a candidate. Certain people donated the use of very special guns, as an example a .50 cal rifle. And for every shot, you donated $25.00. For many of us, it was a way to make a donation and at the same time do something we would not normally be able to do.

    • BanditBasheert July 15th, 2014 at 13:12

He’s running against Kyrsten Sinema – we LOVE her and hope he continues to represent us. First I’ve heard of him. Hes got to get past the primary tho.

So what is the problem here??? Is it any different then having a fundraise and charging $5000 per plate?? there is no booze being served at the range?? We have done this here in New Jersey before, so what is the problem??

    • fahvel July 15th, 2014 at 13:24

if you have to ask, you shouldn’t be packing fella.

      • Pistol-Packing July 15th, 2014 at 13:36

no, there is a reason to ask. because what is wrong with it. is this any different then hosting a fund raiser and charging $5000 dollars a dinner plate and a photo opportunity??

Because in reality, there is not a thing wrong either legally or ethically…

        • arc99 July 15th, 2014 at 13:53

Apparently there is nothing illegal going on. It all comes down to how one thinks about the proliferation of more firearms into society.

We both know that if for instance in Colorado, a leftist politician held a fund-raiser with door prizes of an ounce of marijuana, the anti-drug zealots would likely have the same types of negative responses you see here.

Or if we want to use an analogy with an activity that is legal at both the federal and state leve, how about a voucher good for abortion services at any Planned Parenthood clinic, should the need ever arise. I suspect pro-birthers (I refuse to call them pro-life, especially in view of the vile behavior at the border over the past few days), would take greater offense than what is being expressed here.

There would be nothing wrong legally. Whether or not it is wrong ethically is in the eye of the beholder and that is the issue in my opinion.

          • Pistol-Packing July 15th, 2014 at 14:07

That is an opinion i can respect. You may not agree with what he is doing, but he is not doing anything wrong legally.

Thank you for a clear and concise opinion. But I have to run now, I am moving to Colorado in anticipation of “Door Prizes” for the next fund raiser… =)

Actions can be both legal and disgusting ! That you chose them as a normal acceptable course of events in politics in the USA is worse than disgusting.

I put a call into the ATF and asked if they could recommend a good Merlot to go with a pack of Marlboros and an AR-15…

    • Pistol-Packing July 15th, 2014 at 13:37

Stags Leap… But it goes better with a 62 grain bullet versus a 55 grain. It has that extra SNAP to it…

      • Satan July 15th, 2014 at 16:36

Should I drink it from an actual wine glass or does it taste better just when the bottle is in the brown paper bag, as usual?

        • Pistol-Packing July 15th, 2014 at 16:39

Ohhhhh brown paper all the way…. That should be a given…

You know this is going to be followed up by Democratic candidates in some states giving out bags of weed to donors.

    • Saint_Augustine July 15th, 2014 at 14:57

I’m pissed at you R.J., for not listing what states have candidates giving out free pot! How about it pal, where’s a link?

      • R.J. Carter July 16th, 2014 at 09:39

Suppositions have to come true first before you can link to them. But I would look to Colorado and Washington state races.

pistol-packing, it is a bribe because he is telling people if uou help me financd my campaign, I will give uou ammo, booze, and cigars. that is a bribe, and illegal. he is breaking the law.

    • Pistol-Packing July 16th, 2014 at 10:36

No its not…. these are not items they can take home. And obviously, they are not free either. It is a fundraising event. If I choose to go to the fundraiser for his campaign, instead of offering me a over priced plate of food, I am being given the opportunity to shoot at the range. and if I choose to go enjoy a glass of wine or a scotch and a cigar afterwards, how is this a bribe.

And what law exactly is he breaking??? Is it any different then promising “Hope and Change” for a donation??

      • Denise July 16th, 2014 at 10:54

hope and change was a theme. I am not going to argue with you. you asked me to explain and I did. if you already thought you knew the answer why ask for an explaination?

        • Pistol-Packing July 16th, 2014 at 11:20

Because you keep calling it a bribe. Which I continue to ask, how is it a bribe?? How is it any different then doing a fund raising dinner that charges 5000 a plate? What is the significant difference that would constitute this as illegal??
