Trump makes sane choice for National Security Advisor

Posted by | February 20, 2017 15:30 | Filed under: Politics

The NY Times reports:

President Trump picked Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, a widely respected military strategist, as his new national security adviser on Monday, calling him “a man of tremendous talent and tremendous experience.”

Mr. Trump made the announcement at his Mar-a-Lago getaway in Palm Beach, Fla., where he has been interviewing candidates to replace Michael T. Flynn, who was forced out after withholding information from Vice President Mike Pence about a call with Russia’s ambassador.

Bannon got the word from The Hill that this next guy better be good

It’s a sad state of affairs when the fact that a choice appears to be rational it actually becomes big news…
But how sane can McMaster actually be, if he’s willing to hitch his wagon to this clown train?

      You lefties are totally nuts!

I have two theories on who this guy is, the first theory is he loves America and he wants to be in rumps cabinet in order to keep a sane voice in the mix. Or another theory is this guy is a nut job in search of power and a lot money so he sold his soul.

    • Willys41 February 20th, 2017 at 18:22

It could be he’s just sane enough for people to say he’s sane, but he’s crazy enough for Trump to think he’s a nut.

    • StoneyCurtisll February 20th, 2017 at 19:01

Maybe a mix of the two…

      • Suzanne McFly February 20th, 2017 at 19:56

        That seems very reasonable.

    • The Original Just Me February 20th, 2017 at 22:19

Military take over of OUR Government.

      • Suzanne McFly February 21st, 2017 at 10:43

I do not believe that at all, the Military is filled with people who love this country and know our history.

        • The Original Just Me February 21st, 2017 at 12:01

I totally agree with you that most of the Military are Good and Loyal people. Our ex-son-in-law just retired as a Full Marine Colonel. I haven’t talked to him about it, but I doubt He would work for Trump even though He is a Full Dyed in the Wool Republican. We also have a past Marine Grandson, a Full Lifer Marine Granddaughter, a present Air Force Granddaughter, and a past Army Son. Most Military people who make it to General, have become strongly opinionated and IF they would work for Trump, they would use their full power to support Him. That is My point and not condemning all Military to be Trump supporters. Sorry :+)

Don’t be sorry, I just misunderstood what your were saying my friend :)

No Problem I just wanted to clarify myself.. :+) I have a habit of dragging on at times.

    • fahvel February 21st, 2017 at 02:48

second choice Sue. No person with a shred of morality would sit in the same room with your president. (except the rare visiting head of state who will leave quickly with a bad taste in their mouth)

      • Suzanne McFly February 21st, 2017 at 10:44

I am hoping for the first and preparing for the latter.

    • Mike N. February 21st, 2017 at 11:54

He’s still active military, so I think he HAS to accept an appointment from the Commander in Chief!

      • Suzanne McFly February 21st, 2017 at 20:28

I don’t know about that. I know they were having problems with Flynn because he hadn’t been out of the military long enough. I believe they want them out of the military for 3 years before they become part of the cabinet. It seems like the rules have not been put in stone but I can’t imagine that they could force a military member to work with a President, especially when they are as awful as this person.

  4. Willys41 February 20th, 2017 at 17:36

If he’s as sane and respected as people say, he’ll be fired within a week, or he will run away screaming for his life.

  5. StoneyCurtisll February 20th, 2017 at 18:40

If you believe that a massive increase in military spending and expanding the size and scope of the military…
Then Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster is a ‘sane’ choice.

    • The Original Just Me February 20th, 2017 at 22:18

China has LOTS of money that they can loan Trump’s U.S. Government.

  6. Maxx44 February 20th, 2017 at 19:36

    Beginner’s luck.

  7. amersham1046 February 20th, 2017 at 20:55

How long will he accept having to answer to Bannon

  8. The Original Just Me February 20th, 2017 at 22:25

If you will only go to work for Me, I’ll order God to give you 21 Golden Shower Girls when you die and go to Heaven. Or I will tell God ; ” You’re Fired ! “

  9. Willys41 February 20th, 2017 at 23:54

    A sane choice? Well . . . Let’s see what Wikipedia says.

    Herbert Raymond McMaster
    July 24, 1962 (age 54)
    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

    Nickname: “The Iconoclast General”

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._R._McMaster

    Now let’s try the dictionary:

    iconoclast
1 : a person who destroys religious images or opposes their veneration
2 : a person who attacks settled beliefs or institutions

    https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/iconoclast

Sure, sounds like the perfect choice for Trump. Absolutely.

There’s no such thing as a “sane” choice by Trump. And if it turns out that McMaster turns out to be halfway decent, this’ll turn into a HUGE mistake by Trump. HUGE mistake!
