Whitehouse shreds White House: ‘A gong show with a nuclear button’

Posted by | February 1, 2017 13:50 | Filed under: Politics

RI Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse let loose on Team Trump during this morning’s confirmation hearing on Sen. Jeff Sessions for AG:

“On the campaign trail, the American people witnessed Donald Trump mock a disabled reporter and make disparaging remarks about immigrants and minorities, all with no push back from Senator Sessions,” Whitehouse noted. “We all witnessed chants of ‘lock her up,’ which Senator Sessions did not push back against and even excused in his hearing as, quote, humorously done.

“The problems did not end with the campaign. President Trump and his family have brought more conflicts of interest to the White House than all other modern presidents and families combined. The proposed Trump domestic cabinet is an unprecedented swamp of conflicts of interest, failures of disclosure and divestment and dark money secrets. The Trump presidency is a haven for special interest influence and they’re just getting started. …

Whitehouse argued that Trump’s recent executive order banning people from seven majority-Muslim countries “highlights the problems we face over Senator Sessions’ nomination.”

“In addition to being a substantive backfire, the order was a procedural botch,” the senator said of the executive order. “The opening days of this administration have been a gong show, but a gong show with a nuclear button.”

“Many Republican members of Congress have made a Faustian bargain with Donald Trump. They don’t admire him as a man, don’t trust him as an administrator, but they respect the grip he has on their voters,” Whitehouse observed. “The Republican Fausts are in an untenable position. The deal they’ve struck with the devil comes at too high a price. It really will cost them their soul.

“Even if Trump’s ideology were not noxious, his incompetence is a threat to all around him. To say that it is amateur hour at the White House is to slander amateurs.”

For those of you who have never actually encountered the cultural phenomenon known as The Gong Show – here it is in all of its mind-numbingly ridiculous glory – including none other than David Letterman as one of the judges! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUThxC_mvIE

Move the nuclear clock a little closer, Sessions became the attorney general.
This country is getting steam rolled… one swamp thing at a time.

Somewhat off topic but important. We only need one more GOP Senator to oppose Betsy Devos and she is history.

Two GOP senators to vote ‘no’ on Betsy DeVos

The comments at that story are frightening. These trump supporters would give me nightmares if I had any personal contact with them.

I’m surrounded by insane right wingers – they are all flying their hate flags every single day.

They are so insane that if Herr Drumpfenfuhrer gets impeached, they will be hysterical freaking out – they are all nuts nuts nuts nuts.

The nitwit across the street who flies many hate flags, as well, is so nuts that the nice young couple who moved in next to him are selling their house. They will probably lose money on it.

They’ve only been there a couple of years but they can not abide the jerks next door who park their vehicles all over their young kids’ front yard. NUTS – total NUTS.

They told him they would put up a fence if he insisted that he should be allowed to park on their yard and they were told to take out plenty of property insurance first.

I asked if they had called it in to the cops and they said that there was another more extreme threat made over that.

        Republicans are all insane.

It’s too much work being so full of hate.

I would think so but the republicans never seem to reach critical mass.

There’s hope, WAPO put out an article on that.

Well we have a shot. My biggest worry was for alleged Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia. But this morning he made it clear that he will vote NO on Mrs. Devos. So far that gives us 48 unanimous Democrats and 2 Republicans. We need one more vote to make a rejection of Mrs. Devos “Pence-resistant”. A 50-50 tie does us no good since Pence will assuredly cast the deciding vote in favor.

It would be nice if the congress could give tRump (at least) one defeat…

Reminds me of an old David Letterman video mash-up

Franklin Roosevelt – we have nothing to fear but fear itself

John F. Kennedy – ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country

George W. Bush – “There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”

Just when we thought it could not get any worse, we are proven to be wrong… lord help us…

Once again, in English, please? I have no idea what the f*ck he’s trying to say. And neither does he.

      • Suzanne McFly February 1st, 2017 at 17:59

After he goes off into one of those mumbling fumbles, I wish a reporter would ask him what was the question he just answered.

        • Larry Schmitt February 1st, 2017 at 18:02

It needs to be made clear to anyone watching and listening, in case they can’t figure it out for themselves, what a complete f*cking moron he is.

          • The Original Just Me February 2nd, 2017 at 01:00

So the Idiots will probably name a Park after Him ” F*cking Moron Park “.

        • The Original Just Me February 2nd, 2017 at 00:59

Actually, He just Dodged a question.

          • Suzanne McFly February 2nd, 2017 at 07:40

By talking in circles, he avoided an answer. I believe he thinks that if he just says a lot of words, he will sound like a genius.

            • The Original Just Me February 2nd, 2017 at 13:00

He just spent too much time listening to Sarah and it confused Him.

              • Suzanne McFly February 2nd, 2017 at 16:45

Could you imagine those two in a conversation? My head just exploded thinking about that lol.

                • The Original Just Me February 2nd, 2017 at 19:42

Back when Sarah was making all those trips to Trumps Hotel in New York, to see Him, I don’t think they were doing all that much talking.

      • The Original Just Me February 2nd, 2017 at 00:58

Yea, but the Coal Miners Believe Him and that is ALL that seems to matter.

  5. burqa February 1st, 2017 at 17:15

“a gong show with a nuclear button”

[….burqa lies sideways across the length of the couch, motionless, eyes glazed over. His mind drifts downstream until it finally snags on a particular notion – he wondered how much LSD is going for these days – and whether he could get a sheet…..]

Quite the turn of phrases in this speech. Bravo.

  8. fahvel February 2nd, 2017 at 03:03

No one, no one sane with a heart could disparage what this man has said – to the ppoint!!! But, and I’ve asked before, where were these people before the election – nothing he has said was not visible by the end of October.

    • whatthe46 February 2nd, 2017 at 03:21

Today, Feb. 2, is the 169th. Anniversary of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. That is when President Polk gave Mexico BACK to the Mexican Government after WE won it in the Mexican-American War.,Let’s see if The Trump Mess rescinds that Treaty today.
