Denver cop to protesters: ‘Stop doing anything that could be construed as free speech’

Hat tip to Rocky the Liberal Rottweiler, who points us to this footage from anti-Muslim-ban protest at Denver International Airport

More from the good folks at Raw Story:

Denverite reported that over 200 people gathered at the Denver International Airport on Friday to protest President Donald Trump’s executive order banning travel from seven majority-Muslim countries.

In video posted to YouTube, Police Commander Tony Lopez can be seen advising demonstrators that they are in violation of the law.

“Stop doing anything that could be construed as free speech without a permit,” he explains.

Lopez warns in the video, which lacks context, that even carrying a copy of the U.S. Constitution was prohibited in the airport.

“I cannot carry the Constitution without a permit?” one protester asks.

“Correct,” the officer replies.

This is what it looks like right before the Constitution is destroyed. There is more of us than there are of the traitors dressed as Patriots.

    • Larry Schmitt January 29th, 2017 at 20:20

So now these toy dictators make up their own rules. I wonder how many millions the Denver police force would be sued for if he actually tried arresting someone for carrying the Constitution. Just when I think my mind has been boggled to the max, they take it one step further.

      • Suzanne McFly January 29th, 2017 at 21:20

I feel like this is a bad horror film, it is too over the top and far fetched to ever happen in real life. Then I wake up….

        • Willys41 January 29th, 2017 at 23:45

Well, to tell the truth, I suspect it all comes back to the internet. 50 years ago we would’ve known nothing about any of this, nothing but what Walter Cronkite told us on the evening news. And we haven’t adapted well to the ceaseless flow of news and news-ertainment and drivel masquerading as content. We accept virtually everything that agrees with our preconceptions and are driven far beyond rational thinking to the point of hysteria by everything that conflicts with our personal worldview.

In other words, the greatest challenge of the information era is ourselves. Whether we survive it is yet to be seen.

Meanwhile, it’s chaos and calamity and everybody throwing open a window and shouting to the world outside, “I’m mad as Hell and I’m not gonna take it any more!!!”

          • LudicrousSextus January 29th, 2017 at 23:50

You’ll pardon, but the internet has been flat out loaded – for the last several years – with stories of *colleges* doing this stuff on campus, and liberals have yawned. If not for FIRE – most of it would have gone legally unchallenged.

It’s *hardly* some new phenomena created by Trump.

              fade, please.

            • Red Mann January 30th, 2017 at 09:19

College students vs police. False equivalency.

            • Willys41 January 30th, 2017 at 10:49

That’s interesting because I’ve been on the internet since before it had a graphical interface and I’ve never seen a story like you claim on any legitimate news site — so I’m thinking you might be just a little bit “Ludicrous.”

          • fahvel January 30th, 2017 at 01:25

assuming the 41 is close to my 43, I miss letters and conversation, though we here never stop talking. Though I’m glad to meet ya 41.

            • Willys41 January 30th, 2017 at 10:50

Believe me, I’m waaaaay better typing than talking because I offend people when I’m talking without even trying lol.

          • Suzanne McFly January 30th, 2017 at 07:26

Well I think we are in trouble only if we live in our own bubble and not expose ourselves to what the other side is doing or saying to their followers (I feel like we have become parts of cults). It is hard to stay in your bubble with rump in office. My TV and computer is rump 24/7 due to all his news making chaos.

    • Obewon January 29th, 2017 at 20:27

Even past conservative SCOTUS justice majorities ‘equally upheld’ the 14th A, 10th equal marriage decisions twice! The new Koch Bros Justice via their Heritage & Federalist society, are less constitutionally accurate, or literate. Just like Scalia.

      • Suzanne McFly January 29th, 2017 at 21:15

I hope this is their peak, I don’t know how much more I can stand. On Monday morning, our representatives on BOTH sides of the isle better be coming out with their gloves on.

        • Obewon January 29th, 2017 at 21:34

So far Donnie’s admin unanimously delivered belly flops. 36% Support. With 78% against these faux divisive GOP issues.

          • Suzanne McFly January 29th, 2017 at 21:36

How does anyone survive those kinds of numbers. We already learned what he will do, he will try to distract us with some other crazy nonsense so we don’t hold him accountable for the last colossal eff up he did.

            • mea_mark January 29th, 2017 at 21:48

They don’t survive, but sometimes they don’t die quickly. I am looking for something big in about 2 weeks during the first full moon of his administration, for something to happen. People really do get emotional and riled up the most during full moons. All the ingredients are coming together for something big to happen.

please mm, keep the big boom at your place. :-)

where in the 1st amendment, exactly, does it say a permit is required?

and how’s about producing the permit that was issued to comey’s illegally armed white terrorist in Nevada? – Oregon – Nevada in which the red white and blue flag was required to run and hide in ‘fear’?

how about commander lopez do the right thing, uphold the law and ARREST donald john trump on charges of unlwafully attempting to incite international riots?

  3. whatthe46 January 29th, 2017 at 21:21

he makes no sense at all.

  4. labman57 January 29th, 2017 at 21:22

Trump is probably champing at the bit, eagerly awaiting an incident which will give him a reason to formally establish a Police State via Executive Order.

    • AnthonyLook January 30th, 2017 at 00:55

Pitting brother against brother. The police forces, national guard, and even our military will not serve a fascist. The heart and soul of America will not fall to fascist racists.

      • Red Mann January 30th, 2017 at 09:16

The police and military are infested with Oath Keepers and fundagelicals who would support this fascist pig that is in office now.

        • AnthonyLook January 30th, 2017 at 15:04

The majority of Police and Military are Americans that will stand opposed to the racists Oath Keeper Fundamental Evangelicals.
An ethnically diverse volunteer Military will not support a racist fascist.

      • Snick1946 January 30th, 2017 at 10:04

I admire your idealism. I do not share it. The police and military are full of Evangelical ‘kiss up and smack down’ people.

        • AnthonyLook January 30th, 2017 at 15:02

A few racist bad apples are not a majority in our Police Departments and our volunteer Military– they will not follow a fascist traitor and hand over America to racists.

    @MayorHancock, 720-865-9000
Mayor of Denver upon whose property sits DIA.
I’m sure he has a good reason why his employee – the Police Commander – is threatening to arrest people for possession of a copy of the Constitution of the US. I think everybody should ask him.

  6. StoneyCurtisll January 29th, 2017 at 21:47

You’ll pardon the observation, but pretty much this exact scenario is going on at US college campuses, and has been for years.

And liberal outrage? More like crickets…

    • fahvel January 30th, 2017 at 01:20

wowee, another brilliant comment – sheeeit, murder and rape have been going on since the fkn new pres – get over that too. Sometimes the moron in people just leaps to the fore or maybe the just leaped before they looked.

    • bpollen January 30th, 2017 at 04:26

Colleges are banning Muslims from entering? I call bullshit.

      • whatthe46 January 30th, 2017 at 04:27

yeah, because that is fake news. or, in the alternative. WTF?

        • bpollen January 30th, 2017 at 04:29

I THINK he’s trying to say that colleges don’t allow free speech. Favorite BS right-wing talking point. Those horrible liberals don’t like opposing viewpoints is a common whine from the reich.

  8. Kick Frenzy January 30th, 2017 at 02:19

I could totally be wrong, but is it possible the police commander was referring to the constitution written on a large sign?
(As he had just been speaking about not carrying signs right before that part.)

    • Willys41 January 31st, 2017 at 04:03

The commander was clearly opening his mouth wide enough to stick a steel toe jackboot into it.

  9. bpollen January 30th, 2017 at 04:25

Well, if your Constitution is on your gun, or a large bottle of a liquid, or a box-cutter, he might be right!

  10. Roctuna January 30th, 2017 at 07:24

Well I guess that just says it all, doesn’t it? Or at least it would as long as it’s approved speech.

  11. oldfart January 30th, 2017 at 11:12

Free speech for the price of a permit ?
30 pieces of silver maybe ?!?
