‘Beginning stages’ of Jerusalem Embassy move

Posted by | January 22, 2017 14:39 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

The White House is in the “beginning stages” of moving the Israeli Embassy to Jerusalem.

The White House said on Sunday that it is only in the early stages of talks to fulfill President Donald Trump’s pledge to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, an action that would likely spark anger in the Arab world.

“We are at the very beginning stages of even discussing this subject,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer said in a statement. Aides said no announcement of an embassy move was imminent.

Washington’s embassy is in Tel Aviv, as are most foreign diplomatic posts. Israel calls Jerusalem its eternal capital, but Palestinians also lay claim to the city as part of an eventual Palestinian state. Both sides cite biblical, historical and political claims.

Trump and republicans are going to needlessly provoke another war to funnel taxpayer money where they and their owners can profit.

This doesn’t benefit us in any way. It just proves what an idiotic foreign policy he is likely to have. Big surprise there.

      • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker January 22nd, 2017 at 16:08

        Agreed.
It will just make more American kids cannon fodder and provoke increased terrorist attacks.

        • Suzanne McFly January 22nd, 2017 at 16:12

I wish there was a way that could force a leader who wants to start in unprovoked war to have their own kids or grand-kids join the enlisted ranks. That would change a lot of minds.

Exactly how will moving the embassy (no doubt a costly maneuver) make America great again …?

  3. Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 16:07

Up to now, Trump’s foreign policy is an enigma

    • Suzanne McFly January 22nd, 2017 at 16:10

I think his choice of bannon changed that.

      • Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 16:15

You have a very good point there Suzanne! I meant to stress it’s really hard to foresee how far things will go, on every front.

        • Suzanne McFly January 22nd, 2017 at 17:48

I hope impeachment comes sooner than later Gina :)

          • Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 18:02

I second that!! With all he’s already done against the law, and all the stupidity he’ll do as president, please, let it be soon!

      >>Trump’s foreign policy is an enigma

A clear pattern is emerging with all of Trump’s actions.

Trump is sowing the seeds of maximum discord and drama.

It’s true for all his appointments. Now it’s true for his foreign policy with Israel.

      • Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 16:32

But we still cannot imagine what will become of his relationship with China, the Middle East countries–Iran–, the European allies-NATO-, Afghanistan and so on. How damaging will it be, what course will they take?

        • Mensa Member January 22nd, 2017 at 16:52

I don’t pretend to understand how Trump thinks — but he seems to love discord and drama. So, yeah, a lot of people might die because of Trump.

he is being guided by Putin….

    • amersham1046 January 22nd, 2017 at 16:40

its more a rudderless ship, just floundering around with no real direction

      • Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 17:03

I would be thankful. That would be more benign than the scenarios I’ve been imagining. :)

Not even as a joke! :)

      • Tommie January 22nd, 2017 at 17:31

I am not joking, Trump is going to seriously mess things up in office, Imo! He is making everyone mad including our allies and with this move with Israel, the Middle East is going to be even more violent!

        • Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 17:36

I am also very much afraid of his foreign policy. Trying not to think along these lines, but I can’t help imagining the worse, like you do…

          • Tommie January 22nd, 2017 at 17:41

And that is rare for me, I am a light at the end of the tunnel kind of guy but Trump makes me nervous!

            • Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 17:52

You have the world keeping you company Tommie, he makes millions of people nervous, I guess. :)

You are correct on that, when they are protesting in Antarctica, that’s pretty bad!

                • Gina Bousquet January 22nd, 2017 at 18:29

                  Antarctica?! That one I missed… :)

It was marvelous, with the glaciers in the background. Every continent was involved, and lotsa islands, also too.

                    • Gina Bousquet January 23rd, 2017 at 11:16

That’s amazing, a worldwide resistance to the first extreme right-wing superpower. I feel glad the American people can count on the support of so many sisters around the world. We need a motto for the resistance, words of encouragement to lift up the global reaction to him.

  6. StoneyCurtisll January 22nd, 2017 at 17:54

Why does Trump want to poke a stick into this hornets nest one day after becoming President?…
What in the hell is he thinking?

    • Suzanne McFly January 22nd, 2017 at 17:54

Well he did it for 2 years while he campaigned and he is now in office, what does he have to lose?

    • nola878 January 22nd, 2017 at 18:09

He’s thinking it ain’t my kids that’ll die for my mistakes.

  7. labman57 January 22nd, 2017 at 20:52

Trump is carrying a 5-gallon carboy of gasoline while searching the globe for smoldering fires.

    • eyelashviper January 23rd, 2017 at 11:03

My thoughts exactly, he loves tossing firebombs into other people’s worlds.

This is going to get interesting…
How will Trump balance his base of ‘alt-right’ white nationalist..(racist)
And do the bidding of (Ivanka and Kushner) his Orthodox Jew son in law/high level advisor to the president?
Someone is gonna be comin up short..
Look like his white nationalist base might be put out to pasture…(I wouldn’t bank on it)
