Earnest: If Trump can replicate Carrier deal ‘804 more times’ he’ll equal manufacturing jobs created under Obama

Posted by | November 30, 2016 14:15 | Filed under: Economy Politics

Presidential Press Secretary Josh Earnest is talking not just about saving jobs, but also creating them.

Obama spokesman Josh Earnest acknowledged it’s “good news” that Trump’s team persuaded air conditioning company Carrier to change its plan to ship those jobs to Mexico.

But he added that “if [Trump] is successful in doing that 804 more times, then he will meet the record number of manufacturing jobs” created during Obama’s eight years in office.

Earnest went further, saying that the roughly 800,000 jobs he cited were new jobs created under Obama’s watch. He said the president protected “more than a million” additional manufacturing jobs in the Midwest with his bailout of the auto industry.

  2. Red Eye Robot November 30th, 2016 at 14:27

Why didn’t obama try to save those jobs?

    • whatthe46 November 30th, 2016 at 14:32

they were promised a major tax break & 1000 will keep their jobs, more than that will lose them. they are still opening in Mexico dipshit.

      • muffler November 30th, 2016 at 16:05

And in 3 months when this all quiets down Carrier will replace 200 with software robots and fire the rest. It’s a win win. Trump will say nothing, Obama will not care at that point and people will be on the next tweet.

        • whatthe46 November 30th, 2016 at 16:14

what does Obama have to do with it? he won’t be in office so leave him out of it.

Please, present incontrovertible evidence that he did NOT. You claim he didn’t. Back it up if you aren’t just talking out of your ass.

Thanks, I always enjoy hearing President Obama speak.

Unfortunately, it does NOT provide proof that he did NOT attempt to keep jobs in the US. In fact, what he said did NOT address the Carrier situation directly, but was a critique of Trump’s claim that he will “bring back the jobs.” To put it simply enough even for you, your video is irrelevant to the subject at hand. Good job, Pinkie! Now it’s nap-time!

Since your proof is NOT proof, the conclusion is that you are “talking out of your ass.”

Pres Obama Stopped 800K Job Loss 1st yr Created 15 Mil Jobs 40k New Jobs Every Wk 2016 73 mos Job Growth.

tRump, bribed a company with 700k and a 7mil tax break to save 1k jobs. ROTFLMFAO! you dope.

edit: it was announced that it wasn’t 1k jobs “saved” rather 800.

      • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker December 1st, 2016 at 21:44

Not only did trump simply bribe a company who as already sent 1300 jobs to their newly expanded plant in Mexico, Carrier only promised to keep 800 US employees as long as the taxpayer money keeps coming in.
        Some negotiator!
BTW, a president elect has no such power to do anything.
This was only Pence dishing out money from his state treasury…..and it was the peoples money!
Trump and Pence are just conmen playing the rubes for publicity….it’s called propaganda and the idiots are eating it up as success.

        • whatthe46 December 2nd, 2016 at 00:22

yes exactly. pence is still the gov there and this was a deal with the state and those asses are going to end up needing a bail out. i’m talking about IN. and i attached an article where pence denied helping to save the co in 2014. so yeah, this is meaningless.

Working class and rust belt voters will come
to realize they’ve been trumped, they think
the party of the 1% will make things better
for them? LOL, they will be sorry for voting
against a few e-mails that didn’t harm anyone,
and the will feel a lot more betrayed when:
    There’s no wall
    No Muslim ban or registry
    Their taxes still go up
    The coal mines still close
They lose their ACA / Medicare / Medicaid /SNAP
We get a new war protecting Trump international
    Cairo / Dubai / Rihad

  4. KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker November 30th, 2016 at 17:00

These will be the most expensive taxpayer funded jobs ever created in the private sector by time you add up all the government incentives for them to stay.
Soon many companies will be engaging in the same game and playing Trump like banjo.

    • whatthe46 November 30th, 2016 at 17:07

yep. get big tax break, pay minimum wage, employee the least number of people and outsource the rest, in this case to Mexico, for very cheap labor. fools like trees & red eye doesn’t get it at all.

      • Red Eye Robot December 1st, 2016 at 16:22

The carrier jobs arent minimum wage, They are Union jobs, All the workers sey to be laod off were members of United Steel Workers local 1999

        • whatthe46 December 1st, 2016 at 16:29

he didn’t save anything. they are still moving to Mexico. giving them 700k to save 1k jobs @ tax payers expense while also receiving a 7mil tax break is not helping IN. get that through your stupid thick skull. you’ve been played. also, he still buys his steel from China instead of getting it from manufacturers here. and he won’t be moving any of his jobs to the U.S. as he outsources to 6 different countries. but, what the hey, as long as he’s a racist, idiots like you will always vote against your own best interest. and i’m laughing my ass off. and by the way, i like how he drained the swamp to line his cabinet with the scum from the bottom.

    • amersham1046 November 30th, 2016 at 17:39

better yet, as wash board, face first

    • Red Eye Robot December 1st, 2016 at 16:18

The CBO scored Obama’s stimulus jobs at $4,100,000 a piece.

  5. amersham1046 November 30th, 2016 at 17:39

    The Carrier deal–
would like to see whats in the fine print

    • Suzanne McFly November 30th, 2016 at 18:32

Exactly, I won’t call this a “win” until I see what was given up for them to keep 1,000 workers here.

      • whatthe46 November 30th, 2016 at 18:37

it’s not a win for tax payers. they get a big tax break, over 1000k lose their jobs, because they are still going to outsource to Mexico. that’s the deal.

  6. labman57 November 30th, 2016 at 20:59

All it took was a hefty chunk of taxpayer-funded subsidies … from Gov. Pence.
Does Donnie plan to pay off every business that plans to offshore part of their workforce?

  7. whatthe46 November 30th, 2016 at 22:38

tRump will never be able to reach the goal Obama has set. Obama will always be my President:

If you study “Thailand’s” politic in the last 1-1.5 decades you will know they has been using this technique before and the ending was not nice at all.

A rich business guy with Trump alike attitude turns politic. He later became the country leader. He uses taxes money to direct or indirectly pay for many populist programs to keep majority of his voter happy. So his approving rate went sky high. He later increasingly mixes up country interest with his own family business, but his supporters don’t care because of his populist programs keep them happy. Years passed and 40% of the country which enjoy “no benefit” from the populist programs couldn’t stand anymore because they see the country is running out of money, government have to find ways to increase their income to keep populist program running, so they increases all kind of taxes. People went on multiple large scale protest, government couldn’t function, military intervention, etc well just read the news what Thailand has been doing in the past 10 years. Again, It was not nice.

If Trump keeps paying for company to keep his supporters happy like this, a lot more company will try the same. And if Trump try to impress his supporter with more populist programs in future, I can see the USA is heading in the same direction as Thailand decade ago. The ending might not be that far off from what we have seen in Thailand.

Trump would have to make 71 more carrier deals to equal the $500,000,000 dollars Obama gave to Solyndra.
