Trump takes 1-point lead in national poll

Posted by | November 2, 2016 07:11 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton has dropped following James Comey’s breaking FBI protocol by revealing that more emails have to be examined. Never mind that there is no information about the relevance of these emails to the Clinton investigation.

While vote preferences have held essentially steady, she’s now a slim point behind Donald Trump — a first since May — in the latest ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates.

In the latest results, 46 percent of likely voters support Trump, and 45 percent are for Clinton. With the data taken to a decimal place for illustrative purposes, a mere 0.7 of a percentage point divides them.

    I don’t think so. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/general_election_trump_vs_clinton-5491.html#polls

I obsessively check RCP at this time of the election and it always tightens. Even though I try to stay calm, it always makes me nervous.

      • William November 2nd, 2016 at 10:24

Anything can happen. This I think is a very unpredictable race, unless you look at the electoral map.

  2. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 08:28

Pretty goofy to be looking at decimal places when the result is substantially within the margin of error. Intellectual integrity would call it a tie and not a Clinton lead.

    • William November 2nd, 2016 at 09:49

Did you miss the caption of the article?

Trump takes 1-point lead in national poll

      You’re welcome.

      • Mensa Member November 2nd, 2016 at 09:53

Did you understand why he was whining?

      • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 10:15

You do not understand what a “margin of error” indicates. You should look up the concept and learn to understand it.

        • William November 2nd, 2016 at 10:22

          You posted.

“Intellectual integrity would call it a tie and not a Clinton lead”.

The article did not call it a Clinton lead.
          You’re welcome again.

          • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 10:27

The article called it a 1-point Trump lead. And by alluding to decimals, indicated that Trump was not in the the lead. And, given the irrational leftist bent of Alan Colmes, this, of course “implies” a Clinton lead. In any case, it is properly characterized as a “tie”. You’re welcome. Thanks for learning.

            • William November 2nd, 2016 at 10:29

Don’t blame Alan because you can’t comprehend the following caption. “Trump takes 1-point lead in national poll”
But your juvenile back-peddling is amusing, do continue.

              • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 10:32

Alan’s record of irrationality, obfuscation and misrepresentation is a matter of record. Pretend it isn’t art your leisure.

The data is public record and the math is simple – for some people.

        • BillTheCat50 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:23

  3. Mensa Member November 2nd, 2016 at 09:51

There was a caller on Alan’s show, yesterday, who is a perfect example of why America often elects horrible leaders.

She seemed nice but a little dim-witted. As I remember the calle: “I haven’t made up my mind but I want a president who can keep America safe.” When pressed with specifics, she could come up with only one — Benghazi. Alan mentioned the many embassy attacks under Bush but she had never heard of those.

She admitted this but I have no doubt she’s still voting for Trump because of “Benghazi” (even though she has only only the vaguest idea of anything about it.)

    • eyelashviper November 2nd, 2016 at 10:38

Thanks to Rant radio and Fox news, people like this get fed a steady diet of lies and insanity.

      Trump supporters are stupid..

  4. Snick1946 November 2nd, 2016 at 10:22

    God help us all.

It’s the attack of the low information voters. Only positive is many of them will change their pathetic little minds this weekend.

    • Robert M. Snyder November 2nd, 2016 at 11:53

You had better hope that the low-information voters and their pathetic little minds don’t see what’s in this Project Veritas video, because this will definitely drive up Trump voter turnout:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IuJGHuIkzY

      • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 12:12

There are three more available Project Veritas videos that are just as damaging to Hillary. And more are purportedly coming.

The next poll in Nevada will show Trump ahead in Nevada. He will win Nevada on the 8th.

    • BillTheCat50 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:22

Trump fan or just willfully ignorant?

      • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:24

Is there anyone on this website that is capable of forming a conclusion without using an insult? Insult me at your pleasure. I have predicted more accurately and more often than any other forecaster, for this election. Watch and learn.

        • BillTheCat50 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:25

Yup, Trump fan. Cry some more, thanks kid.

          • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:28

Clearly, thou dost protest too much!

  6. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 10:30

Far as I am aware, I am the only forecaster predicting that Trump will win Pennsylvania.

    • BillTheCat50 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:22

Well, enjoy your failure on that one I guess? Sorry, he doesn’t have a prayer there.

  7. eyelashviper November 2nd, 2016 at 10:40

Hillary still at 300 EC votes, no matter how much Trump thrashes about and lies.

    • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 10:43

Hillary has zero EC votes. No EC votes have posted.

      • BillTheCat50 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:26

Landslide. Get used to saying it.

        • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:27

          All evidence to the contrary.

  8. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 10:48

Discounting acceleration, the RealCleaer Politics aggregate of polls mathematical pattern indicates that Trump will win the election by 1.18 points. However, Trump’s advantage is accelerating and the aggregate of polls is a lagging indicator. The three facts combined, indicate that Trump will win the popular vote by more than 3 points.

  9. BillTheCat50 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:21

Yeh, NO. Sorry. Just, no. People need to pay attention to Electoralvote.com and the Princeton Electoral Consortium for the real, actual numbers. Trump is toast.

    • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:26

The Princeton Electoral Consortium has excellent calculations, however, their mathematical assumptions are based on previous elections, of whom we already know for a fact are quite different than the present election.

      • BillTheCat50 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:26

HAHA yeh good luck with that theory.

        • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:29

It is not theory it is a documented fact. But feel free to delude yourself if it makes you happy.

METHODOLOGY – This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by landline and cellular telephone Oct. 27-30, 2016, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 1,128 likely voters. Results have a margin of sampling error of 3 points, including the design effect. Partisan divisions are 38-28-29 percent, Democrats-Republicans-independents

Just so we’re clear here, only one poll out of hundreds shows Herr tRumpster scratching out of a margin of error…Trumpanzes rejoice and proclaim victory.. but its all rigged.

  11. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:46

According to the latest Washington Post/ABC poll, Trump has an 8-point lead over Hillary in trustworthiness.

    • oldfart November 2nd, 2016 at 11:47

      link ?

      • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:48

        Google it.

        • oldfart November 2nd, 2016 at 11:54

          you mean this one ?

“Notably, Trump has not gained significantly in being seen as more honest than Clinton. Rather her score has dropped, by 7 points in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates. The number who volunteer that they don’t see either as honesty and trustworthy has risen from 8 to 12 percent, a small, but significant change.”

Take any comfort you can in this.

  12. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:49

Trump is gaining back a significant portion of the women, black and Latino vote.

  13. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:50

Nikki Haley – the governor of South Carolina has reversed position and now says that she will vote for Trump.

    • Chip01 November 2nd, 2016 at 11:59

      Of course.

You can’t count on a republicans word. Any republican.

        Tell Donna Brazile that.

  14. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 11:59

How the US stock market performs between August 1 and October 31 has been a phenomenally accurate predictor of who wins the Presidency. The S&P dropped 2% in that period, strongly indicating that Trump will become President.

  15. jybarz November 2nd, 2016 at 12:01

Tramp said things are rigged…so, I believe him on this.

  16. Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 12:03

The most reliable predictor of who wins the oval office is the growth in GDP. If the growth is below 4% the incumbent party loses.

    • oldfart November 2nd, 2016 at 12:09

All they can do is insult, because they have no rational arguments – just like you and Hillary.

                • oldfart November 2nd, 2016 at 12:39

                  Operative word here is rational.

You encouraged it so I felt obligated to you.
If you encourage rational conversation I would feel obliged to have one but don’t expect me to hold my breath waiting it.

Not one of your posts indicates the slightest interest in facts, figures or logic. In fact, you have literally insulted instances of each. I have given dozens of data points on this thread that are all publicly available and undisputed facts and figures. What more can I do?

Ok, explain to me how, without the Black, Latino,Veteran and Women’s vote and the fact that he can’t possibly win any blue state and even with all red states there no way to hit 270.
To put it simply he’s pissed off too many people who aren’t RWNJ’s supporters.

I have been wondering about that.
Maybe they have figured out that hacking is just too damn labor intensive.

              • William November 2nd, 2016 at 12:28

Well that would explain it’s inability to comprehend a story line about Trump leading in a poll.

                • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 12:30

You still have trouble comprehending the simple statement, “intellectual integrity would call it a tie”? Guess you’re in over your head when you attempt to refute me.

              • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 12:28

You computer illiterates still think that an insecure server requires hacking. That is truly ridiculous. If you don’t understand what you are saying, then why say it?

              • William November 2nd, 2016 at 12:45

It does fit together. The choppy narrative, even the subtle things like not knowing the difference between “than and then”. The nameless faceless ID. The sentence structures that make no sense.

You don’t know your IQ do you? I may have made some typos, but so have you. I just am not petty enough to point them out. And I don’t resort to childish conspiracy theories like you do, because I am too intelligent to postulate the outlandish. But enjoy your shabby logic if it brings you any joy.

And what he would win is the first ever televised fraud case followed by a rape case of an American president in history and promptly impeached. With Pence taking over till he’s found complicit, leaving Paul Ryan who BTW is despised by a very large segment of the house of representatives and the public at large…
meanwhile Russia takes over the world…is that the plan ?

The second most reliable predictor of who becomes POTUS is the growth in Median Household Incomer (including projected income). Obamacare cost escalation will result in an average loss of income for families of 25%.

The most fundamental thing that he will do is put the economy on a growth track, so that the money can be used to solve the other problems. In the short-term he will stop Obamacare from bankrupting and causing the death of millions of Americans. In the mid-term he will put the country on an infrastructure reparation.

            • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 12:46

The real solution for the next President – whether it is Trump, Clinton or an imagined person – is that we must come together as a society. And that unification is not in the hands of the government. It resides solely in you and me.

              • robert November 2nd, 2016 at 12:53

If there was a specific problem I wouldn’t say drain the swamp. I would be up front with the people and tell them exactly what wrong That gets you ” unity ” If your correct in the minds of the majority

                • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 12:56

I see three major problems with the world of people: 1) excessive rate of change, 2) excessive complexity of change, 3) excessive interdependence of all our institutions and technologies. We are in very deep trouble and politicians are inadequate to the task at hand.

Kind of like what Texas is selling? Pay no taxes …until a natural disaster hits Then the rest of the nation gets to pay the bill.

And have you seen that interstate highway system in Texas ?

WOW got a military humvee to handle those pot holes !

I look at it as ” unity ” for those who travel on it but don’t let that go to your head with other issues It sounds like donald answers all your questions

                    • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 13:21

Donald does not answer all my questions. The most disturbing thing to me about this election is that no one has mentioned Industry 4.0, or the vulnerability of the North American electric grid, to terrorism and solar flares. These are far bigger and more pressing issues than any others that have been discussed in the media.

                    • robert November 2nd, 2016 at 13:33

Your not going to get the truth from Donald. He thinks NAFTA is about how other countries ” stold our jobs ” nothing is further from the truth.

I got another news flash for the trumpster, part of the deal above was allowing foreign industry to build factories here in the USA and all profits could go to their countries. Here is the punchline If you look up who legislated and passed NAFTA you will find out the gop is guilty on all counts ( by majority ) bill Clinton was heavily badgered by the right and wall Street to sign it into law

                    • Broken_Sky November 2nd, 2016 at 13:36

Industry 4.0 means that the jobs will evaporate, so it doesn’t matter anymore which country does what. The rise of the machine is now the central and predominant fact of economics.

My degree is in Computer Science and I work with embedded systems. I think a lot about how automation is affecting the labor market. It’s easy to say that every child needs a college education. But I am having trouble keeping up with technology myself, and I was in the Blue Birds reading section in first grade. My cousin was a Red Bird. He was able to make a good living in manufacturing. We’re both in our late fifties, so we’ll be okay. But today’s young Red Birds are being automated out of work at a very rapid pace. People like me are designing robotic Red Birds.

There is a fine line between improving a industry and eliminating jobs in the process. This would include retraining people who will fall victim when all is said and done.

Otherwise don’t complain when welfare costs go through the roof

                    • Robert M. Snyder November 2nd, 2016 at 20:35

Most of the people I know take pride in knowing that their work contributes something meaningful to society. I worry about young people missing out on that experience. If the jobs of tomorrow require advanced math and engineering skills, that’s going to leave a lot of people out of the job market. There are many kinds of intelligence. But I worry that only certain types of intelligence will be valued in the future, leaving many people wondering what they have to offer. I am not pessimistic, just concerned.

                    • robert November 2nd, 2016 at 21:49

I can remember back in hs when science class was eliminated because the school district needed to cut the budget ( or so they said ) as far as math goes there are plenty of tools out there to help you along such as pocket calculator size with graph readout. Many schools allow it but the desire has to be there

Have you ever worked in a factory or in a construction job? Do you have any close friends or close relatives who are not retired and not college-educated? Trump is selling snake oil, but the concerns he is addressing are real. You may have won the DNA lottery, but a lot of people don’t. A lot of people are not suited for jobs involving abstract intellectual work. A lot of real people are having real problems finding good jobs, and retraining isn’t always a realistic solution. I’ve read a lot of your posts, and I get the distinct impression that you are out of touch with the hard realities that many people face every day. The single, working mom who struggled in Algebra class is not reassured by the Dept. of Labor’s predictions about the future. What were they predicting 20 years ago, and how has that panned out?

                    • Obewon November 2nd, 2016 at 22:07

Yes! As a teenager I was a hod carrier for a brick mason contractor. Beginning at age 12 I dug ditches for $3/hr. Minimum wage was $1.90 to $2.35. On Saturday’s and summers during high school in the 1970’s I earned 4-5 times minimum wage making $8 to $12/hr mixing cement, carrying bricks, digging concrete footings, while wheelbarrowing 400 to 600 lbs of cement up 20 to 30 feet on makeshift ramps.

I then started my own electronic security firm at age 20 to put myself through college grossing $200/hr, while doubling sales annually in 9 of 11 years. I retired at age 31 after selling my $20K per month firm for 33 Months gross sales. Then in 1990 I returned to college learning relational database software, started a software consulting firm earning 5X in my first 10 years, than I did with my first firm. Most anybody READING the current event news can easily do as well.

And like many kids today do, no I never wanted to become a movie star or a rap music mogul. Statistical probability pointed out the likely hood of successful yellow pages advertising in each endeavor. Now replaced with HTTPS secure internet consulting advertising, etc.

“Most anybody READING the current event news can easily do as well.”

Sounds like you’re a very bright person who is also hard working. Good on you. But I think you are forgetting about the kids you knew in elementary school who struggled with multiplication and generally got C’s on their report cards. Hard work is a big part of success, but so is intelligence. I believe that the brain is like a muscle. The more you challenge it, the stronger it becomes. But I am never going to be Arnold Scwharzeneger, no matter how hard I work my muscles. And a lot of my friends and neighbors are never going to be competitive as relational database developers, no matter how hard they work at it. Your own success undoubtedly required hard work, but what would you say to the woman or man who struggled with high school Algebra? Maybe they weren’t blessed with the same kind of grey matter that you were.

I was a D+/C+ high school stoner who rarely did my homework, unless I did it in class as it became due, or if a teacher telegraphed my assignments to my parents. I went to 2 years of community college, exactly as BHO44 has put into his FY15/16 budgets costing a mere $7,400/yr. You do know each college grad pays about $1 M more in federal income taxes right? You know how I know these things?

What are you talking about? I see no double entendre here. You are using the term incorrectly. I guess you fancy yourself as an intellectual ‘observer’, but your comically inappropriate use of polysyllabic words betrays your poor education.
