Americans own an estimated 265 million guns, which amounts to more than one gun for every adult in the country. But not everyone owns a gun, of course: According to the first comprehensive study of owners in more than 20 years, just 3 percent of Americans own half of the guns in the United States. These…

Only 17 guns per? hmmm…ok then…around here that figure is a little low…I know folks who collect guns, and they are not what folks expect…but, BUT, there are some folks, who I wouldn’t want them to own a slingshot, let alone a gun…yet that is the person whom we should be wary of…He, may not have the largest arsenal, but what matters is the quality of the weapon, and the amount of ammo that can be used…A few, but efficient weapons, are a danger to all, but the number of guns a person owns, cannot be used as a blanket condemnation of gun collecting…

Remember, kids, guns don’t kill people, ammo kills people. Who has all the ammo? Seriously, 17 guns? Why does someone need 17 guns?

Larry…I know that it really sounds crazy to own a lot of guns…I know folks who have many more than 17…they have a gun for all occasions…from hunting pheasants, and turkeys, to hunting the Elk and other big game…For target practice, and for fun and pleasure of plinking with a .22…My buddy, used to take guns for trade, when there wasn’t cash available…Guns are and can be an investment…I am not a freak gun owner…I just am pointing out that there are folks who own guns who are not the types who go around killing people…and they follow all the laws and regulations pertaining to the legal use of firearms…BUT on the other hand, there are folks who really scare the bejusus out of me, knowing they do own an arsenal…What is the solution? there are some good ones out there, but in the time of Trump, and the GOP, no sane solution will be advanced…

I get what you’re saying, but that can’t be all the people who own all those guns. They can’t all be collectors. Some of them are actually gun nuts. And like you said, they are the scary ones. Like the guy in Georgia the Post ran a story on Sunday, who doesn’t even go to WalMart without his AR-15. This guy: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/guns-and-sodas/2016/09/17/805e0db4-79e9-11e6-bd86-b7bbd53d2b5d_story.html

Yeah, I know…there is not much we can do about it until the GOP is gone from power…

They call themselves ‘collectors’ but say that just as an excuse or a cover for their obsession. Having 25 or 30 or more firearms, often under reporting the total number they have is a badge of, I hate to use the word, honor among the gun nut crowd.

Because 18 guns would seem redickulous.

      • Larry Schmitt September 20th, 2016 at 12:46

In comedy, the number 17 is funny, 18 is not.

To a gun lubber, owning just one gun is like eating just one potato chip…can’t be done.

I can’t for the life of me understand why ammunition manufactures don’t raise the cost of bullets…they could make a KILLING… ;)

They are many a killing, and some are children

Because people would just buy a Rockchucker and load their own for 1/4 the price.

    Well, I don’t own 17 but I do own more than 1. Hunting(when I was younger) plinking(.22) inherited etc.

I do know folks that own more than 17…and yes, they are gun nuts.

Chris Rock made a great suggestion and it’s not gun control: bullet control!

Ed Gein had the biggest collection of vulvas in his day. They locked his ass up, and never has a vulva been used in a mass shooting, spree killing, liquor-store robbery… Do I have a point? Yes, but the hat hides it.

Isn’t it kind of early to be drinking? But, I don’t judge.

      • bpollen September 21st, 2016 at 15:44

Kinda bullshit to claim that a man sober for 35 years is drunk.

Kinda early to be an asshole, isn’t it, Menses Member?

We know who the Deadly Skittles are — gun owners.

I’m convinced that the conservative insistence on racial on religious profiling is a diversion from profiling the truly dangerous group — gun owners.

Of course, most gun owners are not a danger.

But you are far more likely to be shot by a white Christian gun owner than a black Muslim who refuses to own a gun.

    So, who should we profile?
