Police union tells cops not to protect players unless they stand for anthem

The union is asking police not to protect the Miami Dolphins until players stand for the national anthem.

The Dolphins will open up with their first home game of the season next week against the Cleveland Browns. The question is will the Broward Sheriff’s Office be escorting them to the game?

The controversial protest by Miami Dolphins players to not stand during the national anthem took another turn Friday as Broward County’s deputies take a stand of their own against the hometown team.

“We’ve asked the deputies and the Broward Sheriff’s Office not to do the details anymore,” said Jeffery Bell, the president of the International Union of Police Associations, Local 6020.

Protect them from what? Is this whole thing getting to the point of death threats? The reaction to this totally symbolic protest is way out of control.

Are all police unions run by awful crazy folk? Seriously, as a rule unions are beneficial to the overall good but police unions seem to have no one’s best interest at heart except their own sadistic little black souls, and those that share their world view. Who does this benefit?

OK, you don’t want to do your job? No problem. We don’t want to pay you to not do your job. OK?

Since when do public servants dictate which segment of the public they’ll serve …?

Evidently if they don’t agree with their politics, that’s acceptable. Ask Kim Davis.

I am so sick of all this “You vill stand for ze National Anthem, ve haf vays of making you” BS. It’s all over Facebook. So many dumbass Americans that are so clueless.
It’s not “spitting on our troops”
It’s not “disrespecting those who died”.
It is exercising ones Constitutional rights.
It is the essence of the American Experiment, an experiment that is failing because of willfully ignorant fools.
How dare these jackasses in the Police Union resort to this fascist BS.

First off, I completely support anyones decesion to stand or not stand for the anthem. Second, why are the police escorting them anywhere? Why can’t the billionaire owner pay a private firm to do this? I’m so sick and tired of these rich people wanting everything but not wanting to pay for it.

there has always been police escorts when an event is going on. there are a lot of wackos out there who would love the chance to run up on someone and maybe even cause harm.

      • jamesboyle63@gmail.com September 18th, 2016 at 16:21

I’m not questioning why I’m questioning who. Hire a private firm to protect your precious spoiled players. Why should the people have to pay?

        • Carla Akins September 18th, 2016 at 16:26

They aren’t providing personal escorts for individual players. Here in KC, they work along the roads that run into the stadium, circulate the parking lots, and hold vantage points within the stadium working with stadium security. It’s a community service endeavor.

private security cant arrest anyone unless they are off duty cops At the same time cops don’t have personal options when it comes to who is entitled to protection.

i cant speak for the goofy unions who have no problem supporting lobbyists and law makers

    That’s a violation of the 14th Amendment.

EVERYFREAKING citizen is entitled to EQUAL protection. There is no “I don’t like what they say” loophole.

    • whatthe46 September 19th, 2016 at 03:42

don’t want to do the job you were hired to do? QUIT!

      • bpollen September 19th, 2016 at 03:46

Exactly. As a public servant, you don’t get to choose WHICH public to serve.

        • whatthe46 September 19th, 2016 at 09:07

they seem to forget that the public they don’t want to serve is paying their fricken salaries.
