Doctor rips ‘misogynistic’ Clinton health coverage

Dr. Jennifer Gunter says the histrionics about Hillary Clinton’s health don’t comport with reality.

In a blog post titled “Hillary Clinton almost fainted. I’m a doctor. It’s really o.k.,” Gunter explained that fainting — or “passing out” — is commonplace and associated with a broad array of physical syndromes.

“The medical term for fainting is syncope,” wrote Gunter. “Syncope is the temporary loss of consciousness and posture and due to a temporary insufficient flow of blood (and hence oxygen) to the brain. If the feeling of faintness and light-headedness and weakness comes but there is no loss of consciousness the event is called near syncope.”

“Near syncope,” she explained, is an “almost faint,” which is what the video taken of Clinton Sunday morning — and played 40 times in 10 minutes by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer — appears to show.

“As a doctor I see near syncope and syncope routinely as it happens during and after procedures. With near syncope it is pretty easy to intervene, as Mrs. Clinton’s team did, and prevent the faint,” said Gunter…

Gunter wrote, “George H.W. Bush vomited and fainted at a State dinner in 1992. He felt warm (experienced near-syncope like Clinton did). He thought he would be okay, but he fainted. It happens.”

…After the post was published, Gunter took to Twitter, where she criticized the media’s handling of the incident.

One Twitter user with a Guy Fawkes mask avatar asked her, “Jen let me ask you a serious question: you don’t think we actually believe pneumonia is driving the bus here?”

Gunter replied, “The misogynistic press is.”

Clinton is sick. It’s the press’s fault. (Although whether it’s the press’s fault that she’s sick or their fault that she’s a woman is being debated.)

    • whatthe46 September 12th, 2016 at 09:15

she didn’t say it was the press’s fault. try again. reading comprehension is very important.

      • R.J. Carter September 12th, 2016 at 09:21

It’s only the press’s fault that we know about it. Being that Hillary’s a woman, they should have kept their damned mouths shut in deference to her gender.

        • William September 12th, 2016 at 09:29

So we get it. You don’t like women. Because in all fairness whenever the GOP candidate does/says something stupid it’s never about gender. Racism, sociopathic behavior and outright lying is gender neutral.

First of all, my wife will be very surprised by this apparent ‘outing’. Secondly, how did I contract a misogyny I apparently didn’t have when Sarah Palin was in electoral play?

            • William September 12th, 2016 at 10:13

              Your words not mine Skippy.

You seem to be obsessed with gender, not the illness.

and by the way, being married to a woman does not in any way preclude a person from being misogynistic.
Every single man I ever arrested for domestic assault was married to or living with a woman.

Actually, they should report on and demand the same from Trump.
How much did they cover Kerry’s pneumonia in the 2004 campaign?

Do you forget that Bush choked on a pretzel and fell?

Or did he fall and then choke on a pretzel?

Remember he crashed his segway and fell?

Many people thought that he had brain damage from the substance abuse (specifically Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome).

          The difference?

There was not an entire entertainment industry devoted to wacko conspiracies.

By the way, Reagan and JFK really were sick.

As was FDR — and he hid it for years.

            • OldLefty September 12th, 2016 at 10:01

              And JFK.
AND what do we REALLY know about Trump??

              • R.J. Carter September 12th, 2016 at 10:04

As much as we knot anybody else, public or private. (Ironically my money would be on there being much greater ‘real’ knowledge accessible about a private individual than a public one.

                  _______

I think it’s the diametric opposite.

            • whatthe46 September 12th, 2016 at 10:31

Reagan had Alzheimer while in office.

              • R.J. Carter September 12th, 2016 at 10:41

They hid that so well that they didn’t even diagnose it until six years after his second term.

                • whatthe46 September 12th, 2016 at 10:58

His own son said he has while in office.

                  • R.J. Carter September 12th, 2016 at 11:18

His own son (Ron) said that looking back, he thinks he saw early signs, while his other son (Michael) says they were not there. Neither is a doctor.

…and FDR went on to become one of America’s best presidents.

        • whatthe46 September 12th, 2016 at 09:39

The press over reacted and so did you.

        • whatthe46 September 12th, 2016 at 09:42

Did you have any concerns over a report written by a Dr. For tRump in a car in 5 mins. No. Had that been Hillary you would have complained about that.

Okay so this doctor knows everything WITHOUT knowing a person’s medical history & without seeing all her health records in detail. Colmes, do you expect your audience to take this article and just dismiss her health issues? Don’t you care about Hillary at all? Perhaps you were not near her over the weekend AFTER pneumonia diagnosis on FRIDAY, but many others were, including her daughter & grandkids & others at fund raisers & secret service, & her staff & 9/11 attendees who were EXPOSED to contagious pneumonia. If that diagnosis was correct, she should have been wearing cover over her nose & mouth. So, perhaps there’s more THERE THERE?

    • Carla Akins September 12th, 2016 at 08:48

Pneumonia is rarely contagious, and as she is under a doctor’s care and a loving grandmother, I believe she would not intentionally infect others she loves. It’s still a common affliction that thousands heal from each month. Get over it.

      • William September 12th, 2016 at 09:36

Perhaps we would all feel a lot safer from Hillary and the impending apocalypse via her contagious plague if she had just been more responsible.
That of course would be sending a limo to wait outside a stomach doctors office while the good doctor writes a note telling the world she was “astonishingly excellent”.

And a doctor who looks like PW Herman’s mug shot!

    • William September 12th, 2016 at 09:24

Suddenly and for the first time ever the right wing troll lobby is concerned with a womans health. Pneumonia is less contagious than the flu.
You should read something once in a while.

HRC Physician Dr. Bardack tested & examined HRC. “Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia,” said HRC Physician Dr. Lisa R. Bardack, who examined Mrs. Clinton at her house in Chappaqua on Sunday. “She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule. While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.” Thx for your concern.

This article is correct. GHBush didn’t “faint”, he had a “health” issue.

    See the difference?

    • Mensa Member September 12th, 2016 at 09:46

And remember when Bush Jr. showed up with a black eye?

The official story was that he fell off the couch while choking on a pretzel.

I suspected that alcohol was involved. He was pretty beat-up for a one-foot fall.

National polls don’t mean much at this point in the election. But the electoral map even looks better for Clinton than the national polls do.
