Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly dead at 92

Posted by | September 5, 2016 19:21 | Filed under: Politics

Phyllis Schlafly founded the Eagle Forum, an 80,000 member conservative organization, where she remained president until her death.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in 1944 — her masters from Radcliffe College in 1945 — and a J.D. from Washington University in 1978.

Schlafly’s organization has been split this presidential election — Schlafly supported Donald Trump, though many board members disagreed. She maintained her leadership of the organization.

She also fought nephew, Tom Schlafly, over the naming rights to his brewery in St. Louis. Schlafly contended her name juxtaposed with beer and libations would damage the conservative brand’s reputation. A judge disagreed.

    Thank God!

    • granpa.usthai September 5th, 2016 at 20:42

so it’s fair to put her on trump’s (the gop candidate for POTUS who REFUSES to release his CROOKED TAX RETURNS, or his 5 minute drive thru complete medical physical, or his school transcripts, or his public divorce papers or even his 3rd wife’s immigration papers) measly little hit list as a KILL?

      Loved that book!

  2. whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 19:32

    ’bout time.

  3. anothertoothpick September 5th, 2016 at 19:36

Schlafly did more to set back the cause of women’s rights than just about anyone..

    • whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 19:55

and we don’t have to listen to her b.s. anymore.

  4. Larry Schmitt September 5th, 2016 at 20:00

Not a lot of thoughts and prayers for this one. And it might be safe to drink the beer now.

  5. Larry Schmitt September 5th, 2016 at 20:03

Amazing that she thought she owned her last name to the point that she tried to keep it off her nephew’s brewery. It’s as stupid as Fox claiming they owned “Fair and Balanced.”

I refuse to celebrate the death of any old person no matter what their politics are….
She was someones mother, sister, child..(and at 92, pretty much harmless)..
I wish her safe passage to where ever death takes her.

    • whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 20:23

it wasn’t just her politics. she was a dangerous person, who as old as she was, was still stuck in the 1800’s and she had absolutely no respect for anyone else. i for one am glad she’s gone and with her, her outright ignorance. but, of course i respect your opinion.

    • granpa.usthai September 5th, 2016 at 20:44

at least she won’t be cold!

      • whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 20:45

lol. lucifer will take her on as his wife.

    • Hirightnow September 5th, 2016 at 21:31

Mr. Curtis? You asked to be notified when there was room in the Conga line…?

    • Red Mann September 5th, 2016 at 23:36

I will celebrate the fact that she is no longer around to spew her poisonous vitriol, she can no longer add the ocean of hatred she has already created. However, her vile get, Andrew is still pushing the dregs of RW “philosophy” with the egregious Conservapedia, so the family tradition lives on.

      • StoneyCurtisll September 7th, 2016 at 19:47

        I can’t argue with that amigo~!

Schlafly did great damage to this nation, particularly to women. She was also a virulent racist. My feelings are, to put it mildly, not as charitable as Stoney’s. Lest anyone forget what a complete moral skankbiscuit this hypocritical harridan was…

    • whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 20:23

i agree. some people just need to be dead. it may sound mean but it’s the truth. hitler, stalin, scalia, you get the picture.

    • StoneyCurtisll September 5th, 2016 at 20:27

Thanks for saying what I pretend to be too nice to say…:)

Which mod is responsible for this?

        • whatthe46 September 6th, 2016 at 10:06

          Laughing so hard right now.

  10. Hirightnow September 5th, 2016 at 21:44

So, who wants to make book on the alt-right claiming that somehow this is Obama’s or Clinton’s doing?

    • whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 21:48

i knew his their names would show up here sooner or later.

      • Hirightnow September 5th, 2016 at 21:58

Well, I mean…REALLY! Who’s in their right mind could believe a woman who was only 92 years old could die of natural causes?
There’s a pillow somewhere, with some incriminating fingerprints on it…

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bitch. I’ve thought for years that the only thing keeping her up was that there was no man around telling her to lie down and finish it.
More oxygen for those that might actually deserve it. Yay.

    • Hirightnow September 5th, 2016 at 22:36

I’m sensing a slight dislike for Mrs. Schlafly in your post…

    • whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 22:39

      well said.

    • Lyndia September 6th, 2016 at 00:50

I am glad she is gone and sorry she stayed so long.

      • whatthe46 September 6th, 2016 at 01:06

apparently you’re not alone. good riddance i say.

  13. William September 5th, 2016 at 22:52

Just to be on the safe side……..

  14. jybarz September 5th, 2016 at 22:57

We’ll all die eventually. But if you live long and make others life a misery, that’s delayed justice = injustice.

  15. Hirightnow September 5th, 2016 at 23:14

Odd, how it takes death to bring us all together.
    (Imma burn for that…)

    • whatthe46 September 5th, 2016 at 23:34

laughing. nah, i think you’re good. can’t help but be glad evil has died. now, a few more million in this country alone to go.

      • Hirightnow September 5th, 2016 at 23:59

AndI thought that I was evil….

        • whatthe46 September 6th, 2016 at 00:12

          [insert evil laugh]

While my widowed mother worked for lower “women’s pay,” Phyllis Schlafly was working overtime to keep families like mine in poverty.

  18. oldfart September 6th, 2016 at 10:34

IMO, This pretty much sums it up for me…with a conga beat !

I did not care for Schlafly.
I also do not care for the Tea Party habit of taking any opportunity to be nasty, and think it would be a mistake to copy that which I dislike.
This is an opportunity for we on the Left to exhibit a greater sense of decency than the vile emanations that come from the Right at such times.
To me, a death is such a horrible thing to those who knew and loved the departed that the seemly thing to do is withhold fire.
