Trump plays to nearly empty black church

Posted by | September 3, 2016 14:57 | Filed under: Politics Religion

The pews were mostly empty when Donald Trump spoke for 12 minute at a black Detroit church.

In a 12-minute speech he read from the center aisle at Great Faith Ministries, the Republican nominee shaved off the rougher edges of the pitch he’s previously made to African-American voters, mostly before white audiences — “what the hell do you have to lose?” he has said in the past — and traded it in for uncharacteristic humility.

“I just wrote this the other day, knowing I’d be here,” Trump began, “and I mean it from the heart and I’d like to just read it and I think you’ll understand it maybe better than I do in certain ways.”

    12 minutes? That’s all?
Would Trump give such a short speech to a white church?
    Somehow I think not.

    • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 22:34

he would never read from a piece of paper either before an all white church because he would be saying what’s on his mind and how he really feels. he can’t do that here and he had to be given b.s. words to say. why didn’t he just use his last speech about black people that was made before an all white audience? because he can’t.

      • mistlesuede September 3rd, 2016 at 22:40

Part of me wishes some of that leaked out. No wonder the time was kept to a minimum. His tourette syndrome mouth would have surely blurted out the wrong stuff, not approved by Kellyanne.
He wouldn’t have made it out of there.

        • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 22:45

this is so fk’n stupid. these are serious racists right? and so, they want their racist candidate to appeal to black people by “pretending” to be nice and that they are important, but, when he speaks to his crowd he spews his views out loud. and even praises when they get beat on. don’t talk about me like a fuckin’ dog, then expect me to give a damn about your views, just because you think you’re going to say something i might want to hear. they can kiss my black ass all damn day long. and everyone in that stupid church that allowed this can stand in damn line.

          • mistlesuede September 3rd, 2016 at 22:49

I hope you are speaking for many?
Was this preacher someone who knew someone? That kind of thing?

            • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 22:50

i don’t know, but, they all need to be tied to a chair and give me 10 mins with them. i would love to do a power point display for them showing them why they made an ass of themselves.

              • mistlesuede September 3rd, 2016 at 23:06

I’d like to be a fly on the wall for that!
But seriously, I would find it very insulting. How many days are we from the election and suddenly he shows up as if all the garbage he has spewed and his connections with the KKK and white supremacists supporting him, retweeting from their site don’t matter? Really?

                • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 23:08

i wouldn’t worry too much about it. he’ll go right before another rally of his kkklowns and kiss ass, by slinging racist and bigot remarks about them again.

                  • mistlesuede September 3rd, 2016 at 23:09

It is the cognitive dissonance campaign.

      • burqa September 3rd, 2016 at 22:41

Mebbe what was on the paper was what the interviewer gave him to say the other day when he was giving Trump the questions in advance….

    • Hirightnow September 3rd, 2016 at 22:36

Having grown up attending a “white” First Baptist church, and having subsequently been in attendance at some”black” services, I can assure you he would have spoken longer; there’s no way White Jesus would let the flock escape before boring them to tears.
Black Jesus would have been asking me if I needed a ride to the barbecue before the second hour had started.

  2. StoneyCurtisll September 3rd, 2016 at 22:37

It must suck to be Donald Trump…

    • Red Mann September 3rd, 2016 at 22:40

Well the black hole of his YUUUUGE ego sucks in all intelligence within a mile or so.

      • StoneyCurtisll September 3rd, 2016 at 22:45

        oh hell yeah…~!

        • Red Mann September 3rd, 2016 at 22:47

Speaking of black holes of stupid, have you seen the list of the idiots at this year’s Value Voters Summit? Oh My FSM!

    • Hirightnow September 3rd, 2016 at 22:50

You can add the words “associated with” after “be”, and I would agree with you, but his brand of self-love, IMHO, brooks no denial of one’s own greatness.

  3. bobrobertson September 3rd, 2016 at 22:57

Trump is the new Black Jesus.
We are lucky he is willing to take a pay cut and that he is still alive to serve America.

    • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 23:00

      huh?

      • bobrobertson September 3rd, 2016 at 23:03

He’s the personification of the black American /dream. Started with nearly nothing as an oppressed white man in a society dominated by affirmative action hires, and through the sheer will of economic force turned his life around.
Now he’s going to be our first white president…in eight years.

        • Red Mann September 3rd, 2016 at 23:04

          Surely you jest.

          • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 23:06

surely he’s stupid. i can’t even respond to that. wtf?

            • bobrobertson September 3rd, 2016 at 23:07

How could anyone “jest” about our Oppressed White Males?
              Rich lives matter!

look, with the trolls we’ve had on here for the last few hours, who in the hell can tell anymore. sh*t he sounds just like them. it’s something they’d say and are serious.

In the speech, Trump made sure to mention how much he used to like watching Good Times, but when he exclaimed “DI-NO-MITE!”, they all just sat there looking at him….

After the speech, Trump decided to mingle and give everyone a high five, but Trump kept missing their hands …..

        Sure.

He also made sure to mention that the restaurant in Trump Tower uses Aunt Jemima pancake mix.
Then he asked the pastor for a shoe shine….

I’ve actually never seen him eat anything healthy in his quest to show his love for minorities. And having a note from a gastroenterologist does not give test results for cholesterol which I’m guessing is off the charts.

                • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 23:45

Agreed. And who has a gastroenterologist as their primary care doctor which is the kind of doctor that would have all results from any other specialists you see in order to write a complete health report?
That guy is an acquaintance of the family. Just because he is a doctor, it doesn’t mean that he knows anything about the health of that gross orange person.

Trump spends one hour in Mexico and they’re ready to declare war. Imagine what he could do with Canada!
(Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t invading us)
We need wars, otherwise we’ll have %85 unemployment among black youths.

So I hope all my liberal friends have registered at least 20 times to vote. Since we’re going to be blamed for stealing the election anyway, might as well give them something to whine about.

    • Red Mann September 3rd, 2016 at 23:29

We don’t have to give them anything to whine about, they just pull that sh!t right out of thin air.

The Quiet Man is one of my wife’s favorite movies. At the end Maureen O’Hara whispers something in John Wayne’s ear, who gives a shocked look. To this day, nobody knows what she said.

(On a different note, I just tried my first Lemon Meringue pie tonight; wish me luck that the meringue doesn’t ‘weep’…me, 52, and I haven’t done this before now!)

                • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 01:08

I really hate to see meringues cry, just tears at my heart.

                  • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 01:46

                    Those brown tears…so heartbreaking.

          • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 00:23

A mere child at 70, but I like old movies.

            • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 00:25

              Me like.
Just to ask, Rathbone Holmes, or Lorre Moto ?

              • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 00:31

Basil as Holmes awsome, though Jeremy Brett did a good job. Lorre was just wonderful. Did you see The Raven with Lorre, Price, early Nicholson and Karloff? I really love the old movies and the 50s TV shows.

                • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 00:40

                  GODS!
I LOVED the Vincent Price films of the 50s and 60s (even liked the Dr.Phibes films!)
All of them! Christopher Lee! Peter Cushing!
I even missed Svengoolie just to stay here and keep you reprobates in line!
I don’t care if you ARE older than dirt, and 20 years older than me; you’re a kindred spirit.

                  • mistlesuede September 4th, 2016 at 00:43

You have a way with words sometimes.

                  • whatthe46 September 4th, 2016 at 00:45

once there was a marathon of Vincent Price movies and i watched everyone of them. considering we only had one television i was allowed to monopolize the t.v. on those occasions.

                    • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 00:51

There is usually a limit to how many “bad” appearances someone can make before they lose respect…Price surpassed that limit, but he did it being himself,,,I only wish it had actually been hm in that Simpsons episode with the Easter egg kit.

Hell, I even forgive him the “13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo”, because of his awesomeness.

                  • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 01:12

Peter Cushing was the Doctor in Dr. Who and the Daleks back in 65. I used to watch the old show on the Beeb with my fiancee/wife in 66/67 in Scotland.

                    • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 01:16

I grew up with Tom Baker…
But I like the current direction the series is taking.

                    • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 01:17

Baker was the Doctor when I was stationed in Northern Ireland and my second time in Scotland.

                    • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 01:22

Wish the USN had treated me so nice…Attack squadron onboard CV67 and CV60 then a horrible shore duty squadron.

                    • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 01:35

Through a series of remarkable events I ended up going to school on the crypto gear that covered the fleet/submarine broadcasts right out of “A” school on my way to my first duty station in the North of Scotland. The thing was the billet was NSA controlled and was found at communication stations around the world, all shore based. So I went to Scotland, twice, Ethiopia, Panama Canal Zone and Northern Ireland. It was a dirty job, but somebody had to do it (crocodile tears here). I was ship’s company for 9 months 6 days before some command needed a broadcast crypto tech, stat. Broke my heart, leaving that ship (more croc tears here). The best part was that I had my family with me the entire time.

                    • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 01:45

I noticed back then that there were those that were “favored”, and those who were not..but that it wasn’t usually anything to do with “knowing” someone, or kissing ass…it just was.
I never saw any rhyme or reason to it…just that some people who were exemplary were treated poorly, and some who were less than exemplary weren’t.
Maybe I just missed noticing the politics.
My career had nothing about it that I could point to and say “UNFAIR”.

                    • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 02:12

It was pure luck of the draw that my “A” school grad time coincided with the command’s need for a tech.

                  • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 01:16

I loved the old Hammer movies, I also loved Them!, The Crawling Eye and the original Invasion From Mars to name a few.

                    • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 01:17

“They Live” was probably the last “real” horror film I’ve seen.

                    • Red Mann September 4th, 2016 at 01:20

I forgot the classic The Day the Earth Stood Still. Even though modern production values are streets ahead, I still have a warm spot in my heart for the 50s/60s Sci-Fi and horror flicks.

                    • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 01:24

(And I always flash back to the Rocky Horror song when I hear that phrase…)

                • mistlesuede September 4th, 2016 at 00:41

Jeremy Brett is the only Holmes for me.

                  • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 00:43

                    EGGS BENEDICT CUMMERBUND!
                    Away with you, child!

Maybe I’m the only sober person here, but I don’t understand you again. I think you need to teach me your language. :)

Apparently, Ryan Gosling is going to star in a Blade Runner remake or sequel or something. I couldn’t read the article through my tears.

                    • mistlesuede September 4th, 2016 at 11:41

Since I’d never watch “Blade Runner” without an enticement, thanks for the heads up!

                    • Mister Atoz September 4th, 2016 at 18:59

Sean Young was more than enough enticement to see the original. Maybe he’ll be playing her part? ;-)

                    • mistlesuede September 5th, 2016 at 13:01

“Sean Young was more than enough enticement..”
                      If you say so.

                    • Mister Atoz September 5th, 2016 at 17:42

“Sean Young was more than enough enticement..”

                      Ellipsis:

(Printing) a printing symbol, usually three periods in a
                      row
(. . .), indicating the omission of some part of a
text; — used commonly in quotations, so as to suppress
words not essential to the meaning. A long dash (—) and
three asterisks (* * *) are sometimes used with the same
                      meaning.

In this case, the word “usually” means “always.”

                      Stupid definition…

I hear this song probably once every day on the classic soul station I listen to.

          • Hirightnow September 4th, 2016 at 00:18

I suffered from an older brother who was decidedly anti-disco, and I inherited his dislikes.
Years later,I grew to appreciate SOME of the music of the 70s that I had disdained, Sister Sledge being some of it.
But I will never accept Rick Dees, nor Kool and or the”Gang”
(The Brothers Gibb transcend this argument, being musical geniuses…)

        • mistlesuede September 4th, 2016 at 00:15

          You beat me to it.
          I wasn’t paying attention.

So this is why the campaign ordered the media out of the church, and why Ingraham is pathetically trying to spin it like the media just up and left lol.

I don’t think whatever I say or swear here would really matter anymore…485 comments?
And everyone is complaining he is getting too much media cover?

    • whatthe46 September 4th, 2016 at 05:34

here’s the thing. it’s not all about tRump. we’ve been talking about movies and music and a whole host of other stuff, that actually has nothing to do with tRump. you missed it. you can’t see all of the comments because you’d have to keep loading more. it has bee fun here all night.
