Police union threatens to boycott 49ers game

Urging team owners to reprimand Kaepernick for sitting during the national anthem and speaking out against police violence, the union said failure to do so “could result in police officers choosing not to work at your facilities,” according to a letter obtained by NBC Bay Area.

“I’m already hearing it this week that next week on Monday Night Football, some officers are not going to work,” Santa Clara Police Officers Association president Frank Saunders told the network.

Saunders said his officers are angry that the 49ers star has spoken out against cops who have gotten “away with murder” in fatal shootings of black Americans, and that he wore socks in practice that showed pigs wearing police uniforms.

Spare me your right wing indignation.

Heh heh, that one reminds me of a picture of President George W. Bush in a similar group. Everyone else has their hand over their heart and Bush’s hand is over his belly button. I never asked if the picture was photoshopped – I don’t want to know.

Let the “police Union ” boycott” the game….
No one else cares about it either….

Ah yes, the boys in blue are so aggrieved by one player not standing for a song that they will allow the rest of the citizenry they are sworn to protect to be threatened by their absence. Such good public spirit! Such good citizenship! We should all emulate the largesse of the poor “threatened” police departments.
Tell you what guys, if you don’t want to do your jobs for ALL the people at ALL the times you are designated to be at work, don’t bother showing up at all because you aren’t what we want in a policeman, thanks.

Cops have a right to free speech but they get paid to keep law and order!

I guess they aren’t really civil servants then, they’re henchmen of the highest bidder.

Don’t they take an oath of office when they become Certified and Accredited as Police Officers? seems like that would be a breech of their oath…they didn’t take an oath to the union, and the union doesn’t pay them…Tax money…this is where the line between privatization and civilian has been blurred…this is what corruption looks like…

Mount a campaign of broad attacks on the po-lice and eventually they will react.
    There is a better way.
Narrow the focus to the bad cops and differentiate between the good ones; gather evidence; sit down with the po-lice and discuss it in a reasonable manner and progress will be made.
Insults, name-calling and temper tantrums will only delay progress.

I’m not saying the po-lice are right, I’m just saying their reaction is to be expected.

    • mea_mark September 3rd, 2016 at 20:02

The police have separated themselves from the community they serve. The reaction they are getting stems from their actions. If they don’t like it, they should actually serve the community, all of the community, especially the poor, elderly and the disabled. If LEO’s want the respect of the community, they need to spend more time serving it, rather than acting as overlords that are separate from the community.

I have no idea what relations are like between the po-lice and the community in San Francisco. If the divide you describe exists, the way to bring people together is treat them respectfully, try to understand their issues, and talk things out in an atmosphere where they can be comfortable.
Repeatedly disparage and brand all cops as pigs and murderers and eventually they will react the same way you or I would if we were being smeared with the sins of someone else who works in our industry.

The ones who heal the divide will not be the name-callers, it will be the ones who sit down with the fuzz and work things out peacefully.
It looks to me that this is what the situation calls for. solutions
And this is the question – are we interested in solutions or do we just want to bitch! bitch! bitch!?

Ok then. If we want solutions then how do we get there?

        • mea_mark September 4th, 2016 at 10:10

It is going to have to start with the good LEOs coming forward and starting the conversation about cleaning up their act. You can’t change someone that doesn’t want to change. When they are ready to change then we can make some progress. It’s kinda like the 12 steps, it has to start at the source of the problem. Coming from a source outside just doesn’t work.

It happened in my city. http://articles.latimes.com/1989-09-07/news/mn-2478_1_police-action

It was basically a leadership and training problem.

Guess they need more time for their angry Facebook posts about blacks.
