NFL fans burn jerseys to protest Kaepernick

Posted by | August 28, 2016 10:42 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

San Francisco fans are burning jerseys to protest Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the national anthem.

One fan even played The Star-Spangled Banner as he set light to the Number 7 shirt, watching with his hand on his chest as it was reduced to ash.

Another, who uploaded a video to Instagram under the handle Nate3914, called the $19million-per-year athlete an ‘ignorant son of a b****.’

He added: ‘People die every single day defending that flag you refuse to stand for and I won’t stand for that.’

‘This jersey was the worst $50 investment I have ever had … you should never play in the NFL again, move to Canada.’

What a stupid thing for Kaepernick to do. People in this country are rabid zealots when it comes to showing patriotism, watch how trump will play to it.

    • Hirightnow August 28th, 2016 at 12:00

Maybe try to convince people not to watch the 49ers play?
      Good luck with that.

      • anothertoothpick August 28th, 2016 at 12:44

I Don’t watch the actual games or replays anymore.

I just wait and then watch the player celebrations on Sports center.

I don’t watch or follow football until the World Series is over….and it has been extended into Nov.? with all the dumb playoffs.

If you’re going to San Francisco…

Make sure you wear fire retardant in your hair/

You’re gonna meet some enraged patriots there.

      • anothertoothpick August 28th, 2016 at 12:41

I knew I could count on you Stoney.

        You always come through..

        Hahanahahahana!

      • bpollen August 29th, 2016 at 04:21

Yeah, I always thought of acid flashbacks as the beta version of Frequent Flyer Miles. Impossible to redeem, but loudly promised.

    • Hirightnow August 28th, 2016 at 11:44

I have always despised that song…that, and the Cowsills’ “The Rain, The Park & Other Things” (aka I love the flower girl). I don’t know why, unless it was the massive overplay they received when I was little.
(Other top hated songs include “Billy, don’t be a hero” and “Seasons in the Sun”)

      • StoneyCurtisll August 28th, 2016 at 13:03

Hey, someone left the cake out in the rain….
And why did they name a park after Gen, MacArthur anyway?

        • Larry Schmitt August 28th, 2016 at 19:36

I was thinking of the same song. And as if the song itself wasn’t bad enough, they got a non-singer, Richard Harris, to sing it, and it went on forever.

          • StoneyCurtisll August 28th, 2016 at 19:37

we are both having the flashback the promised~!
            About time..:)

  3. StoneyCurtisll August 28th, 2016 at 11:36

#1 I have never heard of Colin Kaepernick ..(until this morning)
#2 Who the eff cares about this person?
    #3 see number 1 and number 2..
#4 I’m giving this why more time than it’s worth…(bad stoney)

  4. pinballsdoll August 28th, 2016 at 11:36

They’re protesting the fact that Kaepernick is protesting

  5. Hirightnow August 28th, 2016 at 11:36

So let’s see…they paid anywhere from $35.00-$300.00 USD for these shirts, just to end up burning them, and yet these same people bitch about someone torching a $7.00 USD imported flag from Wal-Mart?
    Right wing economics again.

    • StoneyCurtisll August 28th, 2016 at 11:37

      Ain’t Uhmerica great?
And ya better stand up when you say so~!

    • anothertoothpick August 28th, 2016 at 12:47

The linked article says he spent 50 bucks on the jersey.

That’s about the price of a parking space at Levi’s.

i think colin is going to meet danny very soon

  7. Tommie August 28th, 2016 at 13:06

He was protesting on how Blacks are treated in this country and as soon as he practiced his freedom of speech, on twitter he was called a n-word alot, just proving his point!

    • robert August 28th, 2016 at 13:09

colin must be unaware this situation has been going on longer then he’s been playing football

      • Tommie August 28th, 2016 at 13:11

I’m sure he knew, I guess he thought that this is his time to protest! Me personally, I would have done it differently!

        • robert August 28th, 2016 at 13:15

im more then sure colin isn’t going to protest with his paycheck(s) and try not to look at too many game films over the past few years where colin IS standing for the national anthem.

i don’t want to rub it in by posting them here….

          • Tommie August 28th, 2016 at 13:20

Wouldn’t bother me, in fact that would be good to know since I never noticed!

          • whatthe46 August 29th, 2016 at 09:04

i’m sure he did stand over the past few years, but this is his way of saying, enough is enough. Parks road in the back of the bus until she said enough was enough.

        • whatthe46 August 28th, 2016 at 14:56

maybe you would have, but this was his way, and i applaud his courage.

  8. arc99 August 28th, 2016 at 13:19

It is difficult to consider someone who is scheduled to earn $11million+ in guaranteed money as taking a risk. But the fact is that he has likely eliminated most endorsement opportunities in the near future, and this will cost him a lot more than his guaranteed salary.

In his place, I would have chosen a different manner of expression. If nothing else, he should have considered the impact to this team that is already dealing with a new coaching staff, and a new offensive system. It is difficult enough to digest the new offense under Chip Kelly. Adding the distraction of other players being asked to comment on Kaepernick’s protest only makes things more difficult.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in liberal San Francisco. Before the move to the new stadium in Santa Clara, the team played at Candlestick Park which is about 5 miles away from ground zero of liberal America, Nancy Pelosi’s home district.

I disagree with the way Kaepernick has expressed his opinion. I applaud the guts it takes to put your livelihood on the line in a career where your peak earning years occur prior to age 35. Maybe I will order up a Kaepernick jersey. Excuse me while I surf on over to ebay to check on some national anthem discount merchandise.

    • whatthe46 August 28th, 2016 at 14:55

maybe his standing up in this manner meant more to him than the dollar bill.

  9. Darren Graham August 28th, 2016 at 13:57

Wouldn’t twitter be a better tool for the guy?

    • whatthe46 August 28th, 2016 at 14:53

no. this was done in person. he got across exactly what he wanted to and it was louder than twitter.

  10. amersham1046 August 28th, 2016 at 19:31

But they will still pay $100 a ticket to watch him play

    • whatthe46 August 28th, 2016 at 19:32

do they complain when racist think that the confederate rag is more important than the American Flag? nope.

  11. Larry Schmitt August 28th, 2016 at 19:41

I can’t believe how this has got these people riled up. They should get this upset at the actual injustices that he was protesting.

    • whatthe46 August 28th, 2016 at 19:53

blind, deaf, and dumb. can’t expect much from those groups.

  12. fedupmd August 29th, 2016 at 01:26

NFL fans are asses if they pay to watch this guy play.

    • whatthe46 August 29th, 2016 at 01:35

um, you do realize it’s NOT a one man team right?

    • BillTheCat45 August 29th, 2016 at 12:19

…because? If it’s because he’s not very good, then you’re correct.

  13. Carla Akins August 29th, 2016 at 09:00

Fans burn jerseys when a guy leaves to play for another team. Pfft.

  14. Blogvader August 29th, 2016 at 09:19

What a bunch of entitled, infantile babies. Grow the !@#$ up, people.

  15. BillTheCat45 August 29th, 2016 at 12:20

I’m pretty certain that he could give a rat’s backside.

That said – If you’re going to burn his shirts, do it because he sucks at QB’ing, not over political stuff. (I’m in the Bay Area, lol)
