Reverend writer of ‘Left Behind’ series, Tim LaHaye, dead at 90

Tim LaHaye wrote about the rapture and the return of Christ.

A publicist for the Rev. Tim LaHaye says the novelist died Monday in San Diego, California, days after suffering a stroke. He was 90 years old.

LaHaye and his partner Jerry B. Jenkins wrote 16 volumes in the “Left Behind” series, which sold more than 80 million copies worldwide, bringing Christian prophecy and the apocalypse into mainstream bookstores.

LaHaye was a Baptist minister who started an Atlanta-area church and several Christian schools, and wrote dozens of non-fiction and advice books. He was active in conservative political groups and instrumental in the creation of the Moral Majority.

I’m sure his family members are sad so I offer my condolences to them; HOWEVER, he sure did a lot of damage and if there is a God, I assume he might have a few words for him before dispatching him to hell.

Really, Tim? ‘Left Behind: The Kids’? I was going to let those first 16 books slide, because, you know, I like a quick read without too much thinking. But I’m afraid I’m going to have to give you a few millennia for these; there’s no telling how many kids turned their back on the church for being forced by their parents to read these weakly-plotted …PROPAGANDA books when all of their friends got to read those Hunger Games and Maze Runner books. The Hunger Games… now there was some decent writing for kids. Your stuff? That wasn’t what ‘suffer the children’ meant at all, Tim. Not at all.”

I offer my condolences to his family also, but you are correct, those type of books do alot of damage.I like the way you worded that. Many will think, what kind of damage can a book such as that do? The damage is to the psyche. It produces fear in those who sincerely believe in the bible. It causes anxiety in the gullible and unstable and those unable to use critical thinking in order to see through the contradictions and fallacy. They sincerely worry themselves sick, and bec8me trapped in a guilt syndrome. What if im ieft behind, what if god casts me to hell, etc etc. Many decades ago i was trapped in the fundamentalst christian fear trap.Always worrie about if this,or if that,am i good enough, etc. It affects every aspect of a persons emotional life and it isnt a joke. There have been lives ruined and suicides because of such foolish beliefs. The hold of such beliefs is very strong on the emotional aspect of peoples minds, and hard to break away from, but not impossible.Through learning criical thinking, and objective thinking,i finally freed myself,so it can be done. The authors of such books are probably sincere, but sincerely wrong,as they enrich themselves in the process.

“LaHaye and his partner Jerry B. Jenkins…”

I don’t know if this means business or life partner…if it is the latter, I suppose we were all “left behind” in that knowledge…as Gomer Pyle says, “Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!”

His fiction sucked in a lot of gullible people. Made him rich though.

I have a feeling that was the plan.

Since Mr. LaHaye has passed on ahead, this must mean that everyone else here has been “left behind.”
