At least 8 dead in shooting rampage in Munich shopping mall

At least 8 are reported dead.

At least three attackers were on the loose as the city was under a virtual lockdown, with residents being urged to stay home, restaurants and other business closing and public transit shutting down.

Here’s what we know so far:

• The shooting broke out at a McDonald’s across from the Olympia shopping mall about 5:50 p.m. (11:50 a.m. ET), police spokeswoman Claudia Küntzel said. Gunfire also broke out inside the mall, which is adjacent to the site of the 1972 Olympics, witnesses said.

• On Facebook, police said gunfire was reported in several locations, and that witnesses report seeing three people with firearms.
• “The manhunt is underway at high speed,” police said. “Because of the unclear situation we ask all people in the city area to stay at home or to look for protection in any nearby building. The operation of public transportation service has been stopped.”

Many people were wounded or killed.

It was the third major act of violence against civilian targets to take place in Western Europe in eight days. Previous attacks in France and Germany were claimed by the Islamic State militant group.

Munich police said they suspected it was a terrorist attack.

Authorities were evacuating people from the Olympia mall but many others were hiding inside. Munich’s main railway station was also being evacuated.

A Munich police spokeswoman said multiple people were killed or wounded. No suspects had been arrested yet, she said.

“We believe we are dealing with a shooting rampage,” the spokeswoman said.

Bavarian broadcaster BR said six people were dead and many wounded in the shopping mall.

      what do you think people will do when you go into their country, tear it to fk’n part and murder hundreds of thousands of innocent people. men, women and children were targeted. they weren’t at war with us.

      Conservatives carp and whine when we liberals bring up the obvious: the problem is guns.

      Muslims kill people. Christians kill people. Atheists kill people. Whites kill people. Blacks kill people. and on and on.

      What is the commonality between nearly all of them?

      Guns.

      It’s not “playing politics” to mention that.

        Their standard line has always been “guns don’t kill people, people do.” The truth is, people with guns kill people. Guns are like cigarettes. Use them as designed, and the result is death. Guns just do it faster.
