Security walks off basketball game when players wear Black Lives Matter shirts

Posted by | July 12, 2016 11:07 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

The four Minneapolis off-duty officers walked off the job when players with the Minnesota Lynx wore warm-up jerseys supporting Black Lives Matter.

The shirts listed the names of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, both fatally shot by police officers last week. Castile was killed by a police officer in suburban St. Paul during a traffic stop. The shirt also showed the Dallas police shield above the phrase “Black Lives Matter.”

Minneapolis Police Federation President Bob Kroll tells the Minneapolis Star-Tribune he commends the officers. He says they took their names off a list of officers to work future games.

The newspaper says Minneapolis police, the Lynx and the Target Center haven’t commented.

This is not an either/or situation. Being against police killing unarmed black men does not mean you are for police being killed. It’s possible to be against both.

      They’re acting like petulant children.

Agreed, the players handled this badly. The league should issue fines against the players.

I wasn’t referring to the players.

He knew that. He’s trying to be clever. Daring to complain that they are being used for target practice all over the country is worthy of a fine, but cops are babies who need their popo powdered. Those mean mean women! Cops run away whining.

I got his clever for him….

Trump Effect…we are being divided, deliberately and maliciously…there police unions are as much at fault as the NRA and the Republican party…they have been given permission by Trump to act on their hate, fear, and stupidity…

Security for these professional basketball games is a plumb side job for these cops. They basically get paid for standing around and look slick while ogling the hot chick fans.
Cops line up for these jobs.

My advice to the WNBA is hire a private security outfit and let these cops go shakedown somebody else.

    • Larry Schmitt July 12th, 2016 at 11:59

And it’s not as if there’s any violence at a WNBA game. I think they could survive without cops there.

Awfully nice of the police to pick and choose where they want to be. I think it’s high time to redo law and order and the justice system nationwide and can a lot of a#$%##$s that can no longer ”serve and protect”.

    • Ron Theison July 12th, 2016 at 13:59

Sure, let’s just form a Federal police for all local policing, is that what you crazy libs really want?

      • Snick1946 July 12th, 2016 at 14:27

Not a bad idea. No more cracker cops and uniform standards for policing

      • Warman1138 July 12th, 2016 at 15:37

And things should continue as they are, is that what you crazy conservatives really want?

      • Comicus July 12th, 2016 at 17:25

Why is it so unreasonable for lethal force to be a last resort?

    • Red Eye Robot July 12th, 2016 at 19:17

Do you pick and choose where you want to be when you’re not at work? The security work at these games has nothing to do with their capacity as police officers, They were not assigned. This is a part time job during their non work hours.

      • bpollen July 13th, 2016 at 00:07

They chose to use their police rights, responsibilities, and authority for profit, but only if nobody talks mean about ’em. Like saying they should be accountable for their own actions. Why, the very nerve of the people they kill most often for bringing it up! “Well, we say they can fend for themselves. We’ll go sell police protection to somebody who kisses our ass like Goldilocks would want –juuuuuuuust right.”

I remember kids like that when I was young. You didn’t ask them to play games with you more than once because the pouting is a drag.

      • Warman1138 July 13th, 2016 at 00:39

They picked the job and chose to do it. Did I say that it was assigned? No I did not. Duh!

    Fk em…hire black security guards….

  6. Ron Theison July 12th, 2016 at 13:57

If the players can make a statement, so can the cops. From now on they can hire a rent-a-cop from Acme security.

    • Warman1138 July 12th, 2016 at 15:39

Acme security sounds a lot better than a bunch of see no evil amongst themselves coppers.

    • Comicus July 12th, 2016 at 17:27

I suspect the rent-a-cops won’t kill the people they’re paid to protect. That would be a refreshing change, Ronnie.

    • bpollen July 13th, 2016 at 00:02

They are free to leave any job. Even if it is a juvenile tantrum when police accountability gets brought up. You may think this is some moral and principled stand. I see it as petulant. Always a quality you want to see in the people who have the legal right to use deadly force, and the support infrastructure to figure out a good excuse after.
