Republicans put pray away to gay in platform

Posted by | July 12, 2016 21:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Republicans are putting the discredited idea of gay conversion therapy in their platform.

Conversion therapy is based on the debunked theory that you can “pray away the gay.” (Hint: You can’t.)

The Republicans’ embrace of a “gay cure” in the party platform comes on the heels of language inserted this morning that in effect bans transgender people from using public bathrooms.

The GOP is fighting quite the anachronistic battle in embracing the notion that you can cure someone’s homosexuality. Not only has the practice been debunked and denounced by all the credible medical groups, but it’s even been rebuked by many of the very groups that used to practice the “cure.” In 2011, the world’s top “ex-gay” confessed that he was still gay. And in 2013, the lead international “ex-gay” group, Exodus International, closed its doors and issued a public apology to the gay community.

So it’s a little odd that the GOP is today, in 2016, embracing an issue that’s already, for all intents and purposes, over.

Are you sure this isn’t the Southern Baptists convention platform? They seem similar to me.

Of course it looks similar, we are a country who thrives on bringing church and state together………ummmm, wait a minute. I might of read that wrong. Be right back.

Q: How do we know that Adam was a Baptist?
A: Only a Baptist could stand next to a naked woman and be tempted by a piece of fruit.

Q: Why should you always invite TWO Baptists to go fishing with you?
A: If you only invite one, he’ll drink all your beer. Invite two and they won’t drink any.

I’ll bet Cruz had a hand in this…probably one of his demands if Trump wants his endorsement.

Like most all Republican platform positions, this won’t work either.

    • bunya July 13th, 2016 at 14:13

Yes, but when republicans get caught doing truly disgusting and immoral things, they simply say their wives, children and Jesus forgives them, and their brain-dead constituents believe them. Democrats aren’t too quick to forgive that kind of thing, although we should since we don’t claim to be the party of “good morals”.
That’s why Newtered “family values guy” Gingrich screamed to have Bill impeached because of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, but said nothing when GOP scandals (which, IMO, are much worse) have arisen.

Tomorrow, the Flat Earth Society will make their pitch proving the world is not an oblate spheroid as part of the National Republican Platform.
Do they even make enough popcorn for what’s coming…???

I’m thinking Marcus Bachmann is going to be introducing this particular part of their “platform.”

There is never anything new from the GOP…….unless it’s a lie or a rewrite or a brain cell.

Embracing issues already over seems to be a rightwing thing.

I am a religious person and I do believe in the efficacy of prayer but if all my prayers were answered the conservative Republicans would disappear. So I don’t think their lunatic prayers for gays to become straight is gonna work.
