It’s starting to look like the Far West…

    • Suzanne McFly July 11th, 2016 at 16:28

There is a group here who is really challenging Darwin’s Theory.

      • Gina Bousquet July 11th, 2016 at 16:48

And they are, not surprisingly, the heavily armed group! :)

        • Suzanne McFly July 11th, 2016 at 17:44

How sad, I am thankful many know we all aren’t that way :)

          • Gina Bousquet July 11th, 2016 at 17:59

Only the extreme Right is that way I wouldn’t imply otherwise, but then, the extreme Right doesn’t differ much worldwide, only difference is gun laws, they seem to be almost unique to the US as they are.

            • todd July 11th, 2016 at 18:19

What does the right have to do with the shooting g of officers? The right wants to protect you from these law beeakers

              • Gina Bousquet July 11th, 2016 at 18:41

I know the right and what it protects, thank you.

Yes the 2nd amendment. I do believe in that

              • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 18:51

Explain, please, how the “left” does not.

                • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:36

The left and right believe in two different sets while a law abiding gun owner will not go out and shoot another the criminal element will. Gun control will not stop the criminal from getting a gun hence the guy grabbing it from the officer. If he was law abiding he would not have done that. A law abiding g GU.n Owner will ensure that his gun is secure and buy it from a reputable person . a criminal does it out of the car in the alley etc. No paperwork.

A vast majority of guns used in 16 recent mass shootings, including two guns believed to be used in the Orlando attack, were bought legally

                    • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:49

And he should not have been allowed I agree if you have been investigated by the FBI for terrorism you should not be able to buy a gun for 5 years. However, there must be a way for a citizen to appeal

                    • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:50

Unfortunately the guns used in shootings say in. Chicago, are not bought legally.

                    • whatthe46 July 11th, 2016 at 19:54

                      how do you know?

                    • anothertoothpick July 11th, 2016 at 20:01

All guns start out being bought legally

                    • todd July 11th, 2016 at 20:37

Would disagree not all. Maybe they were bought legally then. Stolen from a law abiding citizen. Maybe they were stolen before they got to the store we would never know. There is some anecdotal evidence of some that were turned in to police and ended up on street

Which have nothing to do with this incident.

                  • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 20:28

A “law-abiding” car owner registers their vehicle, and insures it, to ensure that should something happen because of the vehicle, the damage will be minimized.
Shouldn’t a “law-abiding” gun owner do the same?
What are your thoughts on this?

                    • whatthe46 July 11th, 2016 at 20:32

“thought?” are you serious? you’re funny.

Though not required a lot of gun owners do carry extra insurance some just in case of theft others in case they shoot an intruder. To make it mandatory to what end? On case it is stolen? Or if I wound a person who unlawfully entered NY dwelling

              • anothertoothpick July 11th, 2016 at 19:22

Yeah,. They are doing a heck of a job of it.

  3. Maxx44 July 11th, 2016 at 16:35

OK. Get ready for it. Can’t wait to hear that the answer to this tragic mess we’re in is more guns.

    • amongoose July 11th, 2016 at 17:05

The shooter was an inmate in court who grabbed an officers gun.

    • todd July 11th, 2016 at 18:21

No they will want to take away .. If it was a prisoner like the other guy is saying how does gun control help. Oh I know the law enforcement people shouldn’t have guns either just batons and pepper spray

      • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 18:41

So you’re against gun control even for prisoners?
Or have I missed a nuance somewhere?
(My experience leads me to believe that the gun was either smuggled in [poor security, easily remedied by stricter gun control laws], or that it was present when the perpetrator was arrested, and overlooked [ again, stricter laws needed].)
When someone who should have, by all rights, been denied access to a firearm is able to murder someone you love, I’ll offer my shoulder for you to cry upon.
And I’ll pat your back in sympathy.

        • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:41

He grabbed it from the deputy so unfortunately the officer did not have his weapon under control. I am a lawful gum owner so o do not see need. The laws need to be enforced . I saw a website the other day a left sided one calling for a bam on automatic assault weapons. Those have been banned so we the 30’s so it WAS kinda funny at his take on gun control

          • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 21:03

This would have not solved anything in this instance.

          • whatthe46 July 11th, 2016 at 21:06

how do i know you’re a lawful “gum” owner?

            • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 21:08

todd is upset, whatthe, due to the horrific aspects of this incident…
              Let us respect his grief.
(Gods, am I really saying that?)

              • whatthe46 July 11th, 2016 at 21:10

                dying laughing.

                • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 21:15

                  Keep me grounded, Whatthe…please!
(I’m actually finessing todd to the light side of the force, as he seems to be just a bit misguided…albeit poor at spelling. We NEED opposing views here at alan.com,or else this will become just a left-wing Breitbart, with fewer posters.)

                  • Gina Bousquet July 11th, 2016 at 21:19

You know I have little sympathy for right-wingers, but Todd here is a veteran with a disability that affects his hands, hence the poor typing.

                  • whatthe46 July 11th, 2016 at 21:20

that’s fine and all. he may very well be using his cell phone, you have no idea how many times i’ve had to edit because the phone chooses to insert words for me. that being said, i thought he would get the joke. i’m still dying laughing though.

                  • todd July 11th, 2016 at 21:20

I have a very misguided daughter in law hi. She is now a n advocate for second amendment. Wonders never cease. My son took her shooting and she liked it ?. I f I could get her away from Bernie and or Hillary it would be great Allso my daughter is on the dark side but she believes I’m gun rights (followed me in the navy, i retired when she came to the base i was at ) she was a navy cop an master at arms. even though my “son in law ” can’t be near them

                    • whatthe46 July 11th, 2016 at 21:24

you’ve got issues. so you would rather she be a RWNJ that’s all about paranoia and FEMA camps at Walmart, a racist and bigot?

                    • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 21:26

Navy families can be a bit rough, I’ll give you that.
But she’s (presumably) an adult, and free to make her own decisions.
Any shipmate of mine would be more than happy to have a child that made their own decisions, “right”or “wrong”.

                    • todd July 11th, 2016 at 21:32

Yes she does. Made her own mind. I still think she is just left of center just like I am a little right of center. Something’s are good some are bad. Gun control and this situation at the court is bad

                    • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 21:38

And your opinions on this are valid, if you provide facts.
Help me keep these rampaging liberals in line, todd, by providing something to dispute what they say.
(I never had a daughter…from what I understand, you’re made of some pretty stern stuff..hope you keep the shotgun oiled.)

        • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:54

My son in law is a prime exampleI agree in some respect I believe the laws need to be enforced. My “son in law” is a prime example he is a felon (murder and other) he has access to a gun right now he is sitting in jail because he was at a place where a disagreement started police came and arrested him because of the access to the gun. Can’t help who our children marry

          • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 20:23

Type slower, todd (I miss some keys, too, when I;m in a hurry); and explain please how he is in jail with access to a gun? What state?

        • bpollen July 11th, 2016 at 23:05

Or have I missed a nuance somewhere?

Todd don’t need no stinking nuance!

  4. mea_mark July 11th, 2016 at 18:13

The NRA blocked smart gun technology for what reason now?

NRA gun policy seems to be failing all over the place. The only thing they seem to be able to do, is to sell more guns.

    • todd July 11th, 2016 at 18:16

Question is how did he get it in?

      • amongoose July 11th, 2016 at 18:19

He was already there, in prison garb and in handcuffs.

        • todd July 11th, 2016 at 18:20

Local news has not confirmed that. I live there

          • Larry Schmitt July 11th, 2016 at 18:56

WISH TV in Indy says: “Bailey said the inmate was being moved from a holding cell at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph when a “fight occurred.” He said the man was able to disarm an officer. He said the inmate got hold of the gun and started shooting.”

            • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:45

Yes local wsbt and local newspaper have reported it now

        • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 18:28

So, a failure on the part of Law Enforcement?
I’ve BEEN there, bub, and there’s a multi-tiered process that eliminates guns from the hands of inmates appearing before the bar.
          And from the courtroom.
          And the courthouse.
Also, explain how a shackled inmate (hands and feet, both joined by a .6 meter chain, together joined by a .6 meter chain) could do this.
Something is wrong here, be it the security measures or the press release.

          • amongoose July 11th, 2016 at 18:43

Reports I saw was that he took the officers gun when in the hall being transferred from courtroom.
They cornered him with a hostage on the third floor, the hostage was killed.

            • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 18:49

Poor training/security procedures; no weapons within reach of a prisoner, where live.
But let’s go ahead and blame….oh,…Obama, shall we?
              Or the “liberal left”.
(This was 100% a failure on the part of Law Enforcement to protect themselves, if the report you saw is valid.)

              • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:46

Ok its Obama fault ??? procedure problem it appears handcuffed in front

          • todd July 11th, 2016 at 19:44

It was procedures he had his hands on front

            • Hirightnow July 11th, 2016 at 20:21

That Is procedure, in my experience.

              • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 00:05

which is why it makes no sense to have a gun on their persons. seriously. i bet they change protocol after this.

      • bpollen July 11th, 2016 at 23:03

Uhhh… how do prisoners get to court, Todd? (Note – the word “prisoner” is a BIG clue.)

            • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 00:22

you posted? i have to refresh the page. was my post there because it appears that it sits in moderation for a while before it goes through.

              • bpollen July 12th, 2016 at 00:25

I say two posts by you, but didn’t check any further down the page.

                • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 00:31

i posted 4. the 2 you saw remained. weird. i didn’t cuss (wow i know) but, i responded to the “christian” saying he wishes i’d die next because i’m a bigot. that’s even weirder. is that a “christian” site or something? shudder.

                  • bpollen July 12th, 2016 at 00:43

Yeah, I focused on the “Wish you would die” response… When my kids tried that type of response, they got privileges cut. A putative adult able to come back with nothing better than a childish expression of “I am totally unable to argue based on the merits of my position.”

                    • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 00:52

i mean really. i wish you would die. but, lets pray for those that died. wth? i love my LL and FON.

                    • bpollen July 12th, 2016 at 00:55

It’s the relative paucity of the whackjobs on LL and FON that drew me. Then I got to know a little about the regulars, and I was hooked.

                  • Jack E Raynbeau July 12th, 2016 at 03:04

                    I suggested that he pray.

            • Jack E Raynbeau July 12th, 2016 at 03:03

              Me too.

          • Jack E Raynbeau July 12th, 2016 at 03:03

Rough crowd. I couldn’t help myself.

            • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 03:05

you posted. or just read. crazy right.

              • Jack E Raynbeau July 12th, 2016 at 03:10

I posted to the guy who wished you harm and to another about how I found my keys after praying.

                • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 03:13

unfortunately, it’s been deleted. those 2 post that are there by me, were the only 2 left standing. the rest were deleted. yours were deleted as well. because you better believe i responding.

        • todd July 12th, 2016 at 07:34

Ah duh read later posts or is that too much for a sanitation engineer

          • bpollen July 12th, 2016 at 16:12

1.) I don’t know what the limitations are for a sanitation engineer so why don’t you look one up and tell ALL of us?
2.) No, I don’t feel that I should have to search out other posts to get a direct answer to my question.
3.) You have provided NO answers to any questions I have asked. You have made claims of honors you refuse to prove you acquired. You claim expertise and can’t come up with anything to support this supposed expertise. You think opposing viewpoints don’t deserve rights. You make veiled threats. The only possible conclusion is that there is no there there. You MUST be a cowardly blowhard, an perfect example of stolen valor, and an empty-headed fact-free ranter.

As my dad would say: If bullshit was music, you’d be a YUUUUUGE brass marching band. And since you claim service you didn’t ever provide, you would probably just play Sousa tunes…

            • todd July 12th, 2016 at 17:00

In the words of Yosemite Sam son your bothering me. Since you can’t keep on topic and must attack I will ignore you

              • todd July 12th, 2016 at 17:00

                And so you are blocked!!

                • bpollen July 12th, 2016 at 17:37

                  Hahahahahaha!!!!!!

                  Gonna block yerself! That’s hysTERical!

              • bpollen July 12th, 2016 at 17:37

Coward runs away when called to prove that he has ANYTHING to support his positions. Whines, deflects, lies, calls names, makes threats, and runs away like a mewling baby when confronted.

Glad to see you admit that you are Toddles, the Cowardly Lyin’.

Today’s NRA record low 22% gun owners are intimidated by any “Smart” technology.

The General Social Survey found in 2014 that 22% of Americans own a firearm, down from a high of 31% who said so in 1985. 12% of Women owning guns is unchanged. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/gun-ownership-declining-general-social-survey-shows-n320666

      • todd July 11th, 2016 at 21:38

Yes smart tech can make it so the gin would not work when it is needed. Or say a burglar came into my house wounded me and my wife needed it to shoot the intruder she couldnt that is the problem with smart tech

        • Obewon July 11th, 2016 at 22:00

Simple just call 911 like a normal person. And better yet installing a burglar alarm connected to a central station, with wireless panic and other emergency perimeter sensors saves at least 10% to 20% on insurance premium reductions. Of course you can enroll a 2nd, etc persons identity with Smart Gun sensors, finger print readers, rings, etc.

          • todd July 12th, 2016 at 07:38

And do you know response times in most major areas? 5-10 minutes. Too late you are dead.By the time they respond you are dead. I have weapons because I like to target shoot and just in case. But live in utopia where police respond in under a minute of you want. I know let’s talk to the criminal who has a weapon. Or as fienstein believes if there are no guns allowed the criminals will just give up the guns

        • fahvel July 12th, 2016 at 03:15

why do you live in a mindless fantasy world of fear?

          • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 03:31

            cause, derp?

          • todd July 12th, 2016 at 07:39

Why do you live in a fantasy world where everyone follows the rules of law? Even in countries with gun control say Japan , criminals have guns citizens do not

  5. anothertoothpick July 11th, 2016 at 19:14

A demonstration of what happened when a good guy with a gun becomes a good guy that had a gun.

    • StoneyCurtisll July 11th, 2016 at 21:08

      Bingo…

    • todd July 12th, 2016 at 07:40

So the deputies shouldn’t have a gun?

  6. StoneyCurtisll July 11th, 2016 at 21:08

If only there had been some ‘good guy’ with a gun to prevent this from happening….
Oh wait, the good guy lost his gun to a bad guy….
More gunz makes us more safe?

    • whatthe46 July 11th, 2016 at 22:09

“According to Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey, 45-year-old Larry
Darnell Gordon was in the process of being moved from a holding cell. A
fight erupted outside of the cell and the inmate got hold of the gun,
shot the deputy and then shot and killed two other bailiffs. Gordon, a white man from Coloma, was in custody on several felony charges.”

      • Mike July 12th, 2016 at 00:08

        Looks like Vince Vaughn…

        • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 00:12

i see a movie coming. called “Why it’s stupid to wear a gun in a holding cell with people facing serious time in prison for felony convictions, when they can grab your gun and kill you and others.” Staring Vince Vaughn.

          • DogsRgoodpeople July 12th, 2016 at 00:56

That may be to long a title. How about “Gun and Dumb”

            • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 00:59

well, my title was dumb right, just like this situation.

          • Mike July 12th, 2016 at 06:25

Nothing ever goes off as planned, I’m sure it’s a dangerous and thankless job. We handle criminals like cattle so it’s to be expected one jumps the fence every now and then. I’m not sure how they’ll ever mitigate the risks…guns are part of the job…
Thankfully, you and I can screw up everyday and not have it cost our life…my heart goes out to these families…

            • todd July 12th, 2016 at 07:41

First thing you have said I agree with

            • whatthe46 July 12th, 2016 at 09:47

They could use mace, tasers etc. Everyone lives. The inmates don’t have gun’s and if the bailiff wasn’t carrying this would not have happened. They supplied the gun.
