Earth changes: Beijing sinking four inches a year

Scientist say the sinking is related to the pumping of groundwater.

The city sits on extensive natural reservoirs of water that are drying out through human use, causing areas to subside.

The team behind the research, which used satellite imagery for its findings, say the city’s central Chaoyang business district is among the worst-affected areas, subsiding at four inches a year.

Because different areas are sinking at different rates, the subsidence is a major threat to the city’s infrastructure and poses a particular risk to its high-speed rail network.

Nobody will care until the money goes down the drain, and now that “money” actually sits as Ones and Zeros in ivory towers, where does that leave us?

China also has all those “Ghost Cities” ripe for a population. I’m sure the government will relocate the population as needed to those cities.

Read about an instance where China had a good reason for fearing flooding. They mobilized a million people for sandbagging, etc. To me, it’s just stunning.

did any of the sandbag people survive the flood?

As an aside, some of the rabid critics of ‘climate change’ that denied the sea level was rising justified that by saying the land was sinking. Any thing to dispute the obvious.
