Clarence Thomas mulls retirement

Posted by | June 19, 2016 16:30 | Filed under: Politics

The Washington Examiner reports Thomas is thinking of leaving the court after the election.

Thomas, appointed by former President George H.W. Bush and approved by the Senate after a bitter confirmation, has been considering retirement for a while and never planned to stay until he died, they said. He likes to spend summers in his RV with his wife.

His retirement would have a substantial impact on control of the court. The next president is expected to immediately replace the seat opened by the death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, providing a one-vote edge in the court that is currently divided 4-4.

Oh my, first Antonin and now Clarence? And Hillary on her way?
Gotta be tough to be a con these days.
The Turtle has to be shitting a brick over this one.
    Pass the popcorn.

They’ve had a 35+ year run and I’m loving it now.

He is lost without Scalia and has no business being a supreme Court justice to begin with..

I think you’ve nailed it. Without his buddy to tell him what to think, Ol’ Sleepy Clarence has to actually pay attention to arguments and stuff. Geez! Too hard!

The nation will be better off if this incompetent boob is sitting in a rocking chair somewhere and yelling at clouds.

Word on the street is he’s heartbroken about the death of his butt buddy Anton, he’s ready to throw the whole con thing away and vote Hillary…

      • Mike June 20th, 2016 at 09:38

Ok, I took a few liberties there…. He knows the cons are out and the court will go left so he’s basically looking at his life being nothing but losing battles …

Where do I contribute to his retirement party? I can think of nothing more fitting than for Uncle Clarence with his white wife RV’ing through the South, Imagine what a hit they would be at NASCAR tracks and Civil War reenactments in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi!

Oh please, oh please, oh please; I’ll give you a lollipop.

He should go ahead and retire now. At least we won’t have a 4-4 tie on the court. Maybe we can get some things done and have some majority decisions that precedent instead of referring to lower courts that don’t.

How soon, Clarence? The sooner, the better.

reviewing his record, it seems that he retired in the early 90’s.

I’d rather him see the USA in his RV instead of ruining it

He’s not going to go through with it. He’s only 67. This is just a ploy to remind the Republicans of what’s at stake in this election. When Hillary gets elected he’s going to hang on until at least 2021, hoping that the Repubs regain the White House after HRC’s first term. If that doesn’t work he’ll keep warming the bench until 2025. By that time he’ll be in his mid-70s.
