Scott Brown: Massacre didn’t target gays

Posted by | June 14, 2016 17:16 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown doesn’t acknowledge that the Orlando attacks targeted gays.

In an interview with Boston Herald Radio, Brown — who has been campaigning for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump — said it was “deeply unfortunate” that most, if not all of the victims of the massacre were members of the LGBT community. But he also said he did not consider the victims to be “from a particular class of people.”

“I classify them as Americans, and it was an attack against all Americans, not just one particular class of type of American,” Brown said.

Here’s the full quote (emphasis added):

It’s so tragic that you have people, and a lot of them were gay and lesbian and transgender, and that’s deeply unfortunate, but I think it’s more than that. They were Americans first. I mean, they weren’t … I don’t identify the people who were murdered as from a particular class of people. I classify them as Americans, and it was an attack against all Americans, not just one particular class or type of American.

Well, you’re wrong Mr. Brown. It’s that simple.

    • alpacadaddy June 14th, 2016 at 20:44

We’ve not heard from Mr. ‘Pander’ Brown for a bit, so I guess he’s angling for a Drumpf slot? (SF)

    • granpa.usthai June 14th, 2016 at 22:05

hold it just a minute, nothing can be simple in a world as complicated as this.
Let me run this through my common sense detector first.

      ahem, brown —–stupid——republican—— wrong——

damn, you’re right, it is that simple!

Someday we all might be ‘just’ Americans, but that day is not today…in large part because the right has only worked to divide this nation.

  3. Larry Schmitt June 14th, 2016 at 18:11

And some people tried to say that Dylann Roof wasn’t targeting black people, but Christians. When you’re wrong and stupid, you’re wrong and stupid. Take a bow, Scott.

Taking GOP stupidly to a new level

  5. labman57 June 14th, 2016 at 18:56

And if the victims were all Evangelical Christians, what then Scottie-Boy?

  6. Larry Schmitt June 14th, 2016 at 19:02

I wish I could post this on my facebook page, but it’s not worth the grief I would catch from the few in my family who are still true believers.

Do you ever miss an opportunity to bash people of faith?

You know, lots of religious people want gun control.

      • Larry Schmitt June 14th, 2016 at 21:40

When they use their faith as an excuse for inaction, no.

      • fahvel June 15th, 2016 at 04:08

look here MM, religion, based on the belief of nothing has and is the cause of every fkn ugly thing that has happened since homo sapiens began calling themselves civilized. Wake up or give back your mensa badge!

      • clemans June 15th, 2016 at 06:27

I used to never bash them, and at one level I know not all people claiming to be religious are mean, nasty, or stupid people. And most people claiming to be religious aren’t really in fact religious. But why won’t the ones who do truly believe stand up to the ones faking?

The whole concept of a super being is outdated, worn out, and habit. There has been nothing at all to suggest that a god could even be possible. But if people would keep it out of our government and out of my face, it wouldn’t be any of my business.

      • Bunya June 15th, 2016 at 14:14

That’s not fair. He’s not bashing people of faith. He’s stating facts. The killer admitted he hated gays – probably something he learned in his religious household from his religious parents. One doesn’t wake up one morning and decide to be a homophobe. It’s something that’s learned, and since the three major religions all preach against homosexuality, I’m sure he was indoctrinated to blame his god for his hatred of gays.

      • whatthe46 June 16th, 2016 at 02:31

lots of religious people say they’re religious and/or “christians” and love everyone, but don’t want gays to have rights.

    • clemans June 15th, 2016 at 06:21

I don’t do Facebook but if I did, I would put it up for you…..heck I would enlarge the picture and put it up in my front yard.

I live in a neighborhood that is nearly entirely republican The neighborhood association covenants have expired. Republicans are trying to get homeowners to start a new one. They want to ban guns from our neighborhood……..not in other areas, just in ours

When reality doesn’t fit your bullshit narrative, you just make crap up!
It’s the republican way….and rubes that vote for them don’t care about reality, just stories that support their bigotry and ignorance.

    • alpacadaddy June 14th, 2016 at 20:41

Thank you, couldn’t have said it better myself!

    • Obewon June 14th, 2016 at 21:00

‘Protected classes’ including LGBT, legacy minorities are SCOTUS law brought to USA by the Conservative Majority Supreames, now 4-4 tie that is moving liberal.

    • granpa.usthai June 14th, 2016 at 22:00

republicans are very proud that they can just make up sh*t from time to time.

  8. labman57 June 14th, 2016 at 21:06

Why do some conservatives find it so unacceptable for Americans to show solidarity and empathy for the LGBT community that they feel compelled to deny the shooter’s motivation for the attack?

    • Mensa Member June 14th, 2016 at 21:09

And why won’t conservatives utter the words, “violent homophobia”?

Is it because they are sympathetic with these homophobes?

      • whatthe46 June 16th, 2016 at 02:43

just like they are sympathetic with the white supremacy groups that go around killing people or the “christians” that go around murdering abortions doctors. they are white Americans and therefore, will not be called for what they are, domestic terrorist.

  9. granpa.usthai June 14th, 2016 at 21:58

speaking of class attacks. Has anyone in the trump campaign convinced trump that Sandy Hook Elementary gun massacre really did take place, The terrorist who committed the act was a WHITE boy – just as WHITE as trump, or is he still doubling down that it never happened and is a hoax where the parents of the reported victims are just really good at acting?

  10. Warman1138 June 14th, 2016 at 22:01

The downplaying has begun, this is a tactic whose sole purpose is to deflect attention from an atrocity and to attempt to shift possible responsibility.

    • granpa.usthai June 14th, 2016 at 22:07

      typical con game.

      • Warman1138 June 14th, 2016 at 22:18

With lots of gullible rubes and that’s the scary part.

  11. bpollen June 15th, 2016 at 05:12

Yes, we all suffered a loss, an attack on any of us because of who we are or who we love is an attack on all of us, but you don’t target a GAY bar on Latino Night if your attack was intended on ALL Americans. Dylann Roof wasn’t attacking ALL Americans, he was attacking Black Christians. You don’t “case” a joint for years (that’s totally what a hetero ISIS lover would do) and frequent other gay bars and ask out other male acquaintances, and use gay dating apps in order to attack ALL Americans. Dear Abrahamic Gawd, they are practically next door to Disneyland and Universal Studios!

    • whatthe46 June 16th, 2016 at 02:01

      bpollen, nicely said.

      • bpollen June 16th, 2016 at 02:14

Aw, shucks, thank ya ma’am! Maybe we can discuss it in more depth at the Barn Dance and Sunday Social? ;- )
