Gingrich: We need ‘similar steps’ to House Un-American Activities Committee

Newt Gingrich wants a reprise of the House Un-American Activities Committee. This is not the first time he’s made such comments, having said something similar on my radio show five years ago.

NEWT GINGRICH: Let me go a step further, because remember, San Bernardino, Fort Hood, and Orlando involve American citizens. We’re going to ultimately declare a war on Islamic supremacists and we’re going to say, if you pledge allegiance to ISIS, you are a traitor and you have lost your citizenship. And we’re going take much tougher positions. In the late 1930s, President Franklin Roosevelt was faced with Nazi penetration in the United States. We originally created the House Un-American Activities Committee to go after Nazis. We passed several laws in 1938 and 1939 to go after Nazis and we made it illegal to help the Nazis. We’re going to presently have to go take the similar steps here.

    Um….so the guy who along with a career pedophile (Hastert) was busy impeaching a President for having consensual sex in the oval office while he himself was divorcing his cancer stricken wife at the same time he was boffing his aid wants to talk about un American activities?

    While it may have started during the WW2 era it continued afterwards, the McCarthy communists witch hunts, the civil rights years, the Vietnam war protests…….well you get the idea. If the enemy is imaginary you can say and do whatever you want to whoever you want, perfect persecution.     Newt doesn’t seem to grasp the true nature of the threat we are facing …
    These are homegrown lone wolf attacks and they don’t text, call, email, or tell, anyone what they’re planning… They just do it … Sometimes because they sympathize with some political ideology they heard about on the Internet …sometimes they’re crazy, most are just angry at the government.
    They are citizens, speak the language, know the culture and system, went to US schools, have American friends, etc…
    Not a single thing Newt spoke about has anything to do with mass shootings in this country.

    What else are they gonna bring back besides the HUAC? Trey Gowdy wouldn’t be a good McCarthy – unless you wanted him played without all that McCarthy charm, charisma, and intelligence… He is probably good on the lack-of-ethics front, though.

    Newt should at least be honest and admit it would not be a House UnAmerican Activities Committee.

    It would be a Demonize Muslims Committee because we know full well that would be the primary, if not the only focus.

    We all saw the hissy fit the right wing threw over the report on right wing terrorism published in early 2009. They do not want this committee investigating anti abortion groups, 2nd amendment advocacy groups, or “patriot” groups grooming the next Timothy McVeigh. They want an official Congressional committee whose sole task is to demonize Muslims.
