Sen. Sessions says ‘slow down and be careful’ who ‘we admit,’ but gunman was born here

The rush to squeal about closing borders and stopping refugees is meaningless, as the Orlando gunman was born in the United States. But that didn’t stop Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions from using this tragedy to talk bout who we let into the country.

“My subcommittee this week just concluded that we’ve had over 570 individuals either convicted or charged or connected to terrorism since 9/11,” Sessions revealed to FNS guest host Bret Baier.

“And it’s not stopping,” Sessions continued. “We see apparently today more of these attacks are coming, it’s a real part of the threat that we face and if we can’t address it openly and directly and say directly that there is an extremist element within Islam that’s dangerous to the world and has to be confronted, we need to slow down and be careful about those we admit into the country.”

“We know about two-thirds and we haven’t completed it yet, but about two-thirds of those people that were charged were foreign born, almost all Islamic individuals. So it’s a serious matter.”

Some right wing pundits are already asserting that the U.S. should have implemented a “zero immigration for Muslims” policy many years ago, thereby preventing a mentally disturbed American-born Muslim from committing this horrible act of violence.

I suppose we need to add an asterisk to that beloved passage in “The New Colossus” on the Statue of Liberty:
    “Yearning to breathe free …*”
    * But only if you are white, Christian, and already speak English fluently.

The ones who are making it harder for groups to come into America sure are lucky their types weren’t able to stop previous groups of “unwanted”, they probably wouldn’t be Americans themselves.
