Ex-Ohio Senator, Governor George Voinovich dead
George Voinovich was 79.

Bush’s tax cuts and later questioned Bush’s war strategy in Iraq, died peacefully in his sleep, his wife Janet confirmed. His death came as a surprise to friends, who said he seemed strong despite some recent health struggles.
He had delivered public remarks Friday at a 25th Slovenian Independence Day event at Cleveland City Hall. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention coming to Cleveland next month.

He is from the time when I could respect some Republicans.
For many years, I prided myself on voting a split ticket. Sure, I mostly voted for Democrats but not automatically. There were always a few Republicans I could support.
Then southern conservatives took over the GOP: Lee Atwater, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay.
Their scorched- earth politics drove the moderates out of the party and the whole thing off a cliff.
