Letterman: ‘I couldn’t care less about late night television’

Posted by | June 9, 2016 12:14 | Filed under: Media/Show Business

David Letterman tells Tom Brokaw he’s really moved on.

The revelation was prompted by interviewer Tom Brokaw, who asked Letterman if he missed being on CBS every night.

“You know, I don’t,” Letterman said. “And it’s interesting. I thought for sure I would. And then, the first day of Stephen’s show, when he went on the air, an energy left me and I felt like, ‘You know, that’s not my problem anymore.’ And I’ve kind of felt that way ever since. I devoted so much time to the damage of other aspects of my life. The concentrated, fixated, focusing on that … it’s good now to not have that. I couldn’t care less about late-night television. I’m happy for the guys – men and women – there should be more women. And I don’t know why they didn’t give my show to a woman. That would have been fine. You know, I’m happy for their success. And they’re doing things I couldn’t do. So that’s great.”

Mazeltov, Dave. Kick back and let it roll… you certainly deserve the time off.

    He seems chilled out.

Johnny Carson bought a boat and was hardly ever seen again after retirement

    • clemans June 17th, 2016 at 06:22

I think Johnny knew he was terminally ill and wanted to enjoy what time he had and be remembered for the days when he was healthy

      • robert June 17th, 2016 at 13:46

If that’s true Johnny took a long time to die? He was on that boat over 10 years

        • clemans June 17th, 2016 at 15:44

he had a terminal illness but good health care….my friend just died after over 9 yrs of suffering from cancer.

          • robert June 17th, 2016 at 19:11

Just because your friend suffered doesn’t mean Johnny did and it’s highly unlikely he suffered while on a boat

            • clemans June 17th, 2016 at 20:52

okay, he knew he wasn’t going to live long with the health issues he had, and he chose to do what he wanted to do when he felt up to it for his remaining years. Some days were good and some were bad. On bad days, it feels like you might cough your insides out. He was an avid tennis player…..most likely he didn’t get to play as often or as well too.

You really think this is an issue? He is dead you know, right?

              • robert June 17th, 2016 at 21:17

I do know it’s common knowledge that medical records are confidential for a reason and your making accusations and unaware of Johnny’s actual health after retirement unless you have some facts?

                • clemans June 18th, 2016 at 02:22

robert, this is too ridiculous to be taken seriously. I am not sure what is your issue and I hope you figure it out, but you can research his illness online and sort it out from there……good luck. He was from my area and was considered a local boy who made good. Sorry he passed away

OK if it’s online,it must be true. GOT it

you can always go to the library and look it up in a medical dictionary…..or take a critical thinking course and learn how to more accurately judge reliable sites.

My college puts out a sheet of steps used for judging places…..later I will post yu some of their advice or their source to help you out. It sometimes takes a village to help each other

you ought to be able to read subjects of your choice, you don’t really need me to tell you what to read, I hope I can give suggestions, but I am done raising kids

Haker, Diana. The Bedford Handbook for Writers. 6th ed. Boston: Bedford, 2002

Look for author…..if none is found, best to skip.
If author is listed, find out what their qualifications are. Check for possible bias

Look for a sponsor for the site.
What can you find out from the domain name? .edu+education,.org+nonprofit, .com+commercial, and so on.
All sources are biased, what might they be for that source?
What about ads on site? Do they show possible bias?

What is the purpose the author has in mind? Is it to educate, sell a product, give an argument,
Who is the article intended for? Does that fit with what you have in mind?

What is the age of the information? And does the age make the information outdated? Are there better sources?

There, I gave you a source for more information if you want it and some of the highlights. I hope this helps you figure out what sources are most reliable.

I trained as a nurse…..no where did it say one couldn’t suffer health issues while boating….and there was nothing in the Constitution about it either. There are degrees of suffering….and he could have afforded any medical equipment he needed with him. Why not go out doing as much as one wants for as long as they can?

I think Jay and Dave should have remained as long as their ratings were good enough and as long as they wanted to work.

    • whatthe46 June 18th, 2016 at 23:59

people get tired of the same things day in and day out after decades.

      • clemans June 19th, 2016 at 05:12

yes, that is to be expected. In this case, they weren’t tired of doing their job. I am betting that the networks wanted to save some money and also wanted to appeal to a younger audience. I don’t think their ratings were down if so the public wasn’t tired of them. At any rate, they moved on.
