TV reporter responds to viewer who says ‘society is not ready for gay men reading the news’
The reporter handled it with great grace.
Click here for reuse options!Mitchell McCoy, a reporter for KARK-TV, shared the angry email Monday afternoon on his Twitter account, and he shared an inspirational message about his own career.
The viewer, who signed the email as “kark Channel 4 fan,” complained about McCoy’s “gayness” and demanded he be removed from the airwaves.
“I’ve been holding back for months but I can’t stand your gayness,” the viewer complained. “Our children should not be watching people like you. You are a disgrace to Arkansas and I will be asking your boss to take you off.”
…Do not be offended (but) society is not ready for gay men reading the news,” the viewer said…
“I get many emails but this tops it,” McCoy said. “I’ve dreamt of being a reporter since I was 9 and I won’t stop on your behalf.”
“No matter who you are or what you believe in — dream loudly and don’t let anyone get in your way,” McCoy continued. “The minute you stop is the minute you stop being who you are. It’s not worth it. #DreamOn #StepUpStopBullying”

“…Do not be offended (but) society is not ready for gay men reading the news,” the viewer said…” That takes some nerve. In other words “acknowledge and accept my close-minded bigotry at the expense of your career, but don’t be offended, I hate all gays equally.”

Ironic that right wing Christians with their dire warnings about Sharia law, are too blind to see that it is they who are trying to force everyone to live according to their religious beliefs, not Muslims.

Gay men (and women) have been reading the news since there has been news, lady. They don’t announce themselves for your benefit. The news doesn’t stop being news because of who’s reading it, dumba$$.
