School board eliminates textbooks that doubt climate change

Posted by | May 22, 2016 18:18 | Filed under: Planet

The Portland, OR school board has passed a unanimous resolution not to use materials that cast doubt on climate change.

The resolution says, “There is overwhelming consensus in the scientific community that the climate crisis is created by human beings.” It also calls for “curriculum and educational opportunities that address climate change and climate justice in all Portland Public Schools.”

But how many states still teach “creationism” as an “alternate theory?” In other words, an alternative to the truth.

Baby steps Larry, this is a mark in the win column and I will celebrate it.

Crazy that in the 21st century we’re still fighting science with dogma….

Portland Or., smarter than all the red states combined.

NOPE! You can’t discount Portland’s boisterous population of skinheads, ‘Christian Scientists’, congregations from the Church of Elvis, Rajneeshees, etc., and general presence of hicks, rednecks, yokels of every flair from the eastern and southern parts of the state. You just have to appreciate that every single person in that town is an “extremist” of one kind or another, and enjoy the roller-coaster… :)

It must be a requirement to be home schooled if you want to post at fox.

I post there regularly, I think of it as a combination of comic relief and rattling the FoxBots cages

  7. CandideThirtythree May 22nd, 2016 at 21:15

Smart states will go ahead and pay for their damn textbooks and stop using Texas textbooks just because it is a few cents cheaper per book.

Of course. The lefts agenda to force their progressive ideology on school children. Let them think for themselves and draw their own conclusion.

  9. Sam May 22nd, 2016 at 21:37

How dare they, let kids study science as fact over fiction.
Climate change is non existent because it’s snowing in Canada in the winter!! Right?

I’m the product of Portland (Catholic) schools. My science education was second to none, graduating high school with AP credits in Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. (Though I only took/passed the AP exam for Calculus)… My knee-jerk reaction is concern for blanketing standards which eliminate textbooks on the basis of whether they inject doubt into scientific principles. Context and process by which that’s done makes a whole lot of difference. But science’s embracing (“demanding” even) of doubt is the entire reason I was drawn to it, and ultimately the reason I concluded it was superior in every way to religion/faith… The only thing we shared with Portland Public Schools was the parameters for deciding and mechanisms for declaring snow days. (and our football team kicked their asses a lot).. Let’s not reach a point where public schools are declaring absolute, unquestionable “truths” while religious ones are teaching objective scrutiny… {{{Only in fking Portland}}} smh ;)
