The family wants to put the dog down after he ate part of his dead owner.

Earlier this month District Judge Wendy Lloyd ruled that the animal, known both Buster and Butch, should be destroyed following the grisly discovery last September, when the dog was found to have been feeding on the corpse of its dead owner.

The police supported the owner’s family’s belief the dog posed a danger to the public, the Liverpool Echo reported. James Cullen, representing Merseyside Police, told the at Liverpool Magistrates Court there was a “real risk that this dog, if rehoused, could harm a human being.”

The court agreed – but solicitors acting for Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre and the Senior Staffy Club have lodged appeal, giving the animal a temporary reprieve pending a legal hearing.

    He didn’t kill anyone, he ate what was available. Humans have done this and we never discussed about the need to end their lives.

      I would hope that if I died with my dogs unable to get any food, that they would eat my carcass to stay alive. I wouldn’t need it any longer, would it be better for them to die so it could be planted or burnt?

        I agree, if my baby eats me when I am dead, I would not hold that against them. It is called survival, I don’t understand why they want this beautiful boy put down, do they really believe they are doing what their family member would want them to do?
