Lizz Frey.

…the symbol that Lizz Frey first jotted in loose lines on a scrap of sketch paper back in 1992 has been reproduced countless times and in countless media — in newsprint, album covers and pulsing purple stage lights — since becoming synonymous with the artist himself.

“It brings back, always, a flood of memories of that time,” the mom of two from a San Francisco suburb said wistfully of her design on Friday, a day after Prince’s death.

Frey was fresh out of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design when she was introduced by a mutual friend to Prince, a fellow Minnesotan who took her on to help design the music videos he was cranking out at his Paisley Park compound.

Having a personal logo is fine but changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol made Prince seem nutty.

I think that hurt him with the fans.
