Father vows not to leave church until ICE promises not to deport him

Families should not have to go through this.

Jose Juan Federico Moreno is desperate to stay with his loved ones. He’s the breadwinner of his family, with five children ranging between 2 and 14 years old. Three of his kids have asthma and one has a developmental disability.

But, unlike his kids, Federico Moreno isn’t a U.S. citizen. He’s an unauthorized immigrant living in Illinois, and — thanks to a years-old drunk-driving conviction that he says was a “mistake” he’s never repeated — he’s now being targeted for deportation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

As the U.S. Supreme Court is weighing whether to grant broad deportation protectionfor millions of undocumented immigrants living in the country, Federico Moreno is just one example of someone who’s currently suffering the consequences of harsh enforcement policies.

    JMO…but…
Mr Moreno is not suffering the consequences of harsh enforcement policies…he is suffering the consequences of bad life choices that he made and now, they have endangered his children…
As sympathetic as I am to immigration, he came here illegally and committed a crime…
Drunk driving is a very serious crime and not the only one he committed…he was driving without a license, so he knew he wasn’t allowed to drive…it’s only minor in his eyes because no one was killed or injured.
His family is obviously living somewhere since they can visit him regularly at the church. He is not working so his claim of being the only bread winner would seem to be a lie….
I feel for Mr Moreno but he brought this upon himself…he needs to go back now…

Could we please find a better example of the harsh policies than this criminal…there are thousands if not millions of people who came here years ago and have never committed a crime…
How about highlighting the stories of those brought here as children that know no other life than living in America…
Stories like Mr Moreno’s are hurting our cause, not helping…
