Now it’s Pearl Jam canceling on North Carolina

Posted by | April 18, 2016 19:04 | Filed under: Politics

Soon, the entire state will be music-less.

Pearl Jam canceled its concert on Monday that was scheduled for April 20 in North Carolina in protest of the law that eliminates local governments’ ability to pass legislation to protect gay and transgender individuals.

“The HB2 law that was recently passed is a despicable piece of legislation that encourages discrimination against an entire group of American citizens,” the band announced on its website. “The practical implications are expansive and its negative impact upon basic human rights is profound. We want America to be a place where no one can be turned away from a business because of who they love or fired from their job for who they are.”

And good people are showing the bad people that they are on the wrong side of history again.

keep ’em coming. i love this. they are losing so much money from that idiot move. businesses are threatening to move, big time concerts are cancelling. c’mon beiber, your move. if he does it too, teens will definitely gather at his office on 116 W Jones St, Raleigh and throw a serious tantrum and parents will join in because they have to listen to their teens go stark raving mad.

here’s a couple of comments being made by the people of NC:

    “Pat Poole

Well well just close down the state why don’t you. Business that was going great now all but stopped. thanks for all the help.”
    “Larry Clubine

Elected as a probusiness moderate. Has governed as a right-wing teapartier. Will not be reelected to a 2nd term.”

Not all are cancelling. Duran Duran did not cancel. However, when there are “innocent bystanders” e.g. people who’d loose out on work at last minute because of cancellation… I think its okay for some of these bands to NOT cancel. Duran Duran went ahead with the show, but they definitely voiced their support for LGBT at the same time.

anyone losing money by way of jobs, should blame the governor. the show can go on another time for those who paid once this stupid ass law is rescinded.

I agree, but I think slack should be cut for, well, groups like Duran Duran you don’t cancel but still show solidarity. Does anyone disagree?

        • whatthe46 April 18th, 2016 at 20:07

i respect your opinion. my opinion is, showing solidarity would be to stand with the rest of the entertainers who are protesting. again, canceling the show doesn’t mean it can’t be rescheduled. if this governor gives a guano about the people of the state, he’ll do the right thing. no matter how long it takes.

My good buddy Jimmy Buffett didn’t cancel. I’m sure he doesn’t support the “law” but he supports his fans. I’m okay with this. Entertainer does not equal cake baker.
