“A judge told a Michigan couple they could land in jail for up to 93 days and face a maximum $500 fine for failing to return a novel and a Dr. Seuss book borrowed from the local public library.”
“Cathy Duren sent a $55 money order to the prosecutor’s office to cover the late fees and replacement costs for the lost book. But Cathy Duren said her money order was refused because she and her husband declined to pay the additional $210 in diversion fees to the Lenawee County prosecutor’s crime unit.Cathy Duren said she feels that she’s being extorted by the prosecutor’s office.
The Durens had to pay $100 bond to avoid going to jail last Friday when they were served with arrest warrants ”

Chihuahua leads police on chase across The Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge.
No one was harmed during this police chase. The alleged perpetrator is in custody and is being restrained with a leash.
“After it was captured, the Chihuahua was taken to a San Francisco animal shelter where staff members named it Ponch, after the CHP Officer Frank Poncherello played by Erik Estrada in the TV series “CHiPs.”
A spokeswoman for the city’s Department of Animal Care and Control said the dog wore a tag decorated with a human skull, but it had no identification. Deb Campbell said the dog was recovering from its misadventure.”
umm…this is the kind of “chase” that seems to occur around here on a slow and easy paced day…this young calf just didn’t like my friend’s chihuahua in his pasture…
an interesting morning…walking my doggies, is usually not very exciting…a few rabbits…a squirrel, maybe a whistle pig or two…but this morning about an hour ago…Noodles and I came face to snout with newly awakened Yogi Bear…we heard reports of sightings from my neighbor, who lost six spring lambs to coyotes the other night, of Yogi prowling the north fence line…the dogs were making noises that I never heard before…and just at the corner of my road, there be Yogi…a beautiful young bear…a very dark brown, looking a little hungry…She/he stood up, and Noodles and I made the strangest noises…Yogi must have decided I was too old with too much gristle, and Noodles wasn’t going down without a fight…So Yogi, let out a snort and turned and headed down the hill…interesting…I almost have too much adrenaline pumping to type this…wow, and here I sit looking at my camera…now that the photo op is gone…My friend, who’s house I was headed for, came out with his gun…He saw the whole encounter, and he really thought I was going to BE breakfast…such is life in the mountains…
PS…the mountain in the photo, sits on the edge of a large Bear Study Area from the Dept. of Interior…it was a ten year study, and in that time the bear population increased substantially with the lack of hunting, trapping or otherwise the killing of innocent bears…we have been seeing the success of this program, with a larger population, which can be dangerous for those who are not aware of this…
