Sotomayor: Supreme Court needs more diversity

Posted by | April 9, 2016 13:45 | Filed under: Top Stories

Sonia Sotomayor says there needs to be more diversity on the court.

During a talk Friday at Brooklyn Law School, Sotomayor didn’t mention the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland, who is highly respected but wouldn’t add racial, religious, or educational diversity to the high court. But Sotomayor, the court’s first Latina justice, said “it is important that we have greater diversity on the Supreme Court” and in the legal profession.

“I, for one, do think there is a disadvantage from having (five) Catholics, three Jews, everyone from an Ivy League school,” several justices from New York City and no one who practiced criminal defense law outside white-collar settings, Sotomayor told the law school audience.

It’s great that there is an African-American justice on the court but it would be helpful if he would say things, sometimes.

Clarence Thomas in no way has ever represented the African American citizens of this country.
He has, without fail, represented the republican party, K street, rightwing superpacs and the 1% highest net worth people of our nation.
But you’re right…he doesn’t say a word as he does exactly what he’s paid to do by his owners.

IMO, the women on the court have proven beyond a doubt, that they are beyond reproach, and have met or exceeded any and all expectations…I would support another women on the bench…as well…

I think the republicans would disrespectfully disagree!

I totally agree. Maybe it needs someone representing the colors of the rainbow. But that someone can’t come out prior to nomination or he/she can’t get the Repukes approval.
