Study reveals world might end sooner than expected

This would be good news for end times preachers.

A study published Wednesday suggests that the West Antarctic ice sheet, which is larger than Mexico, might begin disintegrating much earlier than expected, possibly raising the sea level across the entire ocean as much as three feet by 2100. (Levels in other areas might rise twice as much…
That is roughly twice the increase reported as a plausible worst-case scenario by a United Nations panel just three years ago, and so high it would likely provoke a profound crisis within the lifetimes of children being born today.

The situation would grow far worse beyond 2100, the researchers found, with the rise of the sea exceeding a pace of a foot per decade by the middle of the 22nd century. Scientists had documented such rates of increase in the geologic past, when far larger ice sheets were collapsing, but most of them had long assumed it would be impossible to reach rates so extreme with the smaller ice sheets of today.

If the results are anywhere near correct, and if emissions continue at a high level through the rest of this century, the long-term effect would likely be to drown the world’s coastlines, including many of its great cities.

ok…the bottom line seems to be…that they really don’t know how much and how soon…but IT WILL happen, and it will happen sooner rather than later…the science is telling us that we are in danger, yet the gop refuses to hear it…NASA is telling us things that we don’t want to hear…and it ain’t pretty…how long can the gop tread water?

They have 20 years, give or take.
By then, many of low lying areas in cities like Miami, and New York will be flooding on a regular basis. Cities with less hardened infrastructure like Mumbai or Shenzen will see 100’s of thousands displaced.
The effects of GCC will be the single biggest issue the world faces since 80% of the Earths population lives within 20 miles of salt water…41% at less than 10 meters of elevation

    Waterworld?

The problem would appear to be over-population. Advancing water would shrink available land mass, pushing more people into smaller areas causing less resources, less room etc.

    Dateline 2100,
This just in… massive population shifts continue to disrupt republican gerrymandered districts. In response, congressional republicans threaten NASA with defunding and orders NASA officials to cease and desist in spreading un-founded rumors about global warming.

I have to agree; we may kill ourselves off, but Earth will continue.

Try telling this to your typical evangelical Republican. He will tell you ‘God is in control’ and not to worry. Mainly because their twisted belief system tells them they don’t have to worry, they will all be taken up to heaven by the Sky God long before then.
