Trump: There has to be ‘some form of punishment’ for abortion

Posted by | March 30, 2016 15:19 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Donald Trump want abortions banned, even if we have to go back to women having back alley abortions. And he wants to punish women who do but, true to form, won’t say what that punishment should be.

According to Bloomberg, Chris Matthewsconfronted the GOP frontrunner about whether abortion “should be punished” and Trump said that certain Republicans believe that.

When pressed, Trump said, “I would say it’s a very serious problem and it’s a problem we have to decide on.”

He said “we have to ban” abortion even if we “go back to a position like they had where they would perhaps go to illegal places.”

But Trump is apparently not ready to say what that potential punishment would be, saying it needs to be determined:

No Sharia Law Here. No Siree.

    • Mike March 30th, 2016 at 15:37

Sadly, they won’t see the irony…

    • Roctuna March 30th, 2016 at 19:04

He didn’t say he’d punish them for religious reasons tho he’s surely pandering to the religious right. I think he’d like to punish them just because he believes he’d have that power, despite a SCOTUS ruling on the legality of abortion.

      • whatthe46 March 30th, 2016 at 19:47

it may not be for religious reasons, the fact is it’s no different in that they want to control women.

      • Bunya March 31st, 2016 at 14:01

It’s sharia law, alright. But it’s not socially correct to say “Sharia law”. For example, it’s not socially correct to refer to the President as the “N*gger in the White House”, so they refer to him as a Kenyan-born, commie, socialist, member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
        See how that works?

        • Roctuna March 31st, 2016 at 14:56

No doubt the cons and pseudo-cons like Herr Drumpf love to talk in code. I was just suggesting that he didn’t make that statement out of religious motivation, just the desire to try to exert control and also appeal to fundies. I don’t believe Drumpf has a religious cell in his body let alone religious motivations. Without the religious connotation I don’t think Sharia is an applicable term.

          • Bunya March 31st, 2016 at 16:47

I think Trump will do all sorts of idiotic thing simply because he’d have the power. If he ever becomes president (which I highly doubt), you can look forward to another unnecessary war.

Trump stated “I would say it’s a very serious problem and it’s a problem that we have to decide on.”
There is NO “we” with his misogynistic grandstanding. There is NO “problem” for him. There is NOTHING for him or anyone else to “decide on”. – The choice belongs to the woman.

    • Lara March 30th, 2016 at 17:24

Oh, he doesn’t mean we as in the nation, or him and women, he means the Royal We that he uses all the time.

      • Aquarius 1027 March 30th, 2016 at 17:38

There are indeed no limits to his arrogance. – Whatever “we” is used, it is NONE of “their” d*mn business! – Abortion is a legal and private medical decision that is ONLY between a woman and her physician.

  3. Mike March 30th, 2016 at 15:39

Haven’t we already decided on abortion…???
Trump is saying we should re-decide because the last time we decided we said it was OK…

    • Lara March 30th, 2016 at 17:24

Pretty much the whole GOP thinks that, I believe.

  4. majii March 30th, 2016 at 15:59

Not that any GOP/TPers ever pay attention to any polls, except those that support their positions, but recent polls show that a majority of Americans don’t want abortion to be abolished. If women are to be punished for abortion, maybe men should be punished for having vasectomies. Just saying.

    • Dwendt44 March 30th, 2016 at 17:31

Polls have been pretty consistent, the majority wants abortion to continue to be safe and legal. They may quibble about the third trimester abortions, but the majority favor the right to chose.

The idiot will personally challenge Roe vs. Wade.

    • allison1050 March 30th, 2016 at 16:43

If he got the chance to challenge it he’d be able to chalk up yet and still another failure. Why not force males above age 18 to have a vasectomy. :o)

      • Gina Bousquet March 30th, 2016 at 16:53

How dare he talk about punishment, the fundamentalist!

        • allison1050 March 30th, 2016 at 18:26

          I remember those days.

          • Gina Bousquet March 30th, 2016 at 18:34

We can’t forget them. In Brazil it’s still illegal to very few exceptions.

          • Leannie March 31st, 2016 at 09:31

My mother almost lost her life in those days….I’ll be damned if I let my daughters live in that world

            • allison1050 March 31st, 2016 at 10:06

              Amen to that Leannie.

    • Lara March 30th, 2016 at 17:22

“I’m gonna sue Roe. And Wade, too. Gonna sue whichever one, or both. We’re going to figure out what’s up with this whole thing and there will be suits. Just huge, just tons of huge lawsuits. “

      • Gina Bousquet March 30th, 2016 at 17:36

        It’s gonna be yuuuuge! :)

  6. Larry Schmitt March 30th, 2016 at 16:22

Seems to me there should be some form of punishment for complete f*cking idiots wasting all our time running for president.

    • Aquarius 1027 March 30th, 2016 at 17:02

Put HIM behind bars and throw away the key.

  7. Guy Lauten March 30th, 2016 at 16:28

Trump continues to try to alleviate his dismal image with women voters… but announcing he thinks they should be castigated for doing what they want with their own bodies. More brilliance. Who’s running this thing, Wasserman-Schultz?

  8. DogsRgoodpeople March 30th, 2016 at 17:04

hahaha ………………and this is only the primaries . buffoon has not a chance in hell of winning the general election.

  9. Lara March 30th, 2016 at 17:17

So he says he’d rather women went back to back alley abortions? Like he brings that up specifically? I seriously hurt for my fellow women who vote for this “man”.

And of course he takes it back later, like the whole David Duke thing. It’s like when a lawyer brings something up at trial knowing the jury isn’t supposed to hear it, then withdraws it. Technically the wrong has been righted, but the jurors know he was just trying to slip something in. It’s code to his fellow misogynist old white men: “wink, wink, didn’t mean that”, but it’s out there and the people the message was intended for know he meant it. They’ll say he just had to take it back due to the horrible scourge of Political Correctness that is currently destroying the country.

  10. Dwendt44 March 30th, 2016 at 17:36

Ridiculous of course. Anti-abortion laws only apply to the poor and the middle class.
The rich and well connected will still get them from a friend of a friend that knows someone, or they’ll fly off to some more modern country for a ‘week-end getaway’.
Just more hypocrisy from the rabid right.
The anti-abortion crowd is ducking for cover. Their ‘real’ position is punish both the woman and the doctor (or whoever). They just won’t admit it.

    • whatthe46 March 30th, 2016 at 17:37

yeah, oh, we’re not talking about punishing the women, the doctors, but, the women will still be punished because they will have to go to the back alley abortionist. he’s got a 2fer.

  11. labman57 March 30th, 2016 at 18:28

Donald has since retracted the remark, well not exactly — he denies he ever said it.
Trump will likely blame the ‘miscommunication’ on a “bad connection” — of course, the faulty wiring is located somewhere between his ears, his brain, and his mouth.

He is such a very, very low quality human being let alone a presidential candidate.

  14. Obewon March 30th, 2016 at 19:46

Good luck overturning last centuries guarantee for every womens mere 12 weeks private right to chose, and up to 26 weeks with her Dr’s Approval.

Constitutionally Illiterate repubs Trump & Donnie Jr dive deeper into GOP cluelessness.

  15. Suzanne McFly March 30th, 2016 at 20:13

Didn’t his mother already punish us enough by not getting one?

    • whatthe46 March 30th, 2016 at 20:20

and if she’s against abortion, surely she could have swallowed. geez.

      • Suzanne McFly March 30th, 2016 at 20:39

The problems that we would of been saved from if his mom made better choices.

  16. Tim Coolio March 30th, 2016 at 21:22

Saw one comment that said Trump secretly wants to
destroy the GOP party for almost bankrupting him in
2007 when the real estate market crashed under Bush,
Trump lost over half of his net worth, under Obama
Trump and other billionaires have seen their wealth
double and in some cases triple, the only thing that
explains his self-destructive campaign is that he does
not want to see his fortunes fall with another GOP
president working with a republican congress and
he is doing everything he can to see Democrats win,
could that be what’s going on here? with what he
said today, it’s like he’s got some political death wish
    or something.

    • Gina Bousquet March 30th, 2016 at 21:26

I think that’s genuinely him. It’s all he has to offer, he can’t help spewing bullsh*t. Did you read him about the Geneva convention? It has “problems”. Legislation on torture must be adjusted!

I am getting a salary of 6600 dollars each week. Over a year ago I was in a horrible condition , jobless and no bank credit .os Thanks to one of my friends who showed me a way where I was able to gather myself and making average of 58 d/h. So it can change your life as it has changed mine. Why not try this.

        Look here for details

The mainstream media are saying, “Nobody in the pro-life community wants this.”

That is not my experience. I’m an Evangelical Christian so I hear a lot of insider-talk from the pro-lifers.

Pro-lifers think abortion is _murdering_ babies. They even call it a holocaust They say this all the time.

So, I’ve asked them, “What is the penalty for murder?” and many will say “the death penalty.”

And I mean _many_. This is not some rare pro-lifer nut job.

It’s the logical conclusion from believing that abortion is murder.
