ACLU, Lambda to sue North Carolina

Posted by | March 28, 2016 09:22 | Filed under: Politics

States trying to get in the way of anti-discrimination laws will, hopefully, learn they can’t get away with it.

Gay-rights groups and others who say they’ll be wronged by North Carolina’s new law preventing Charlotte and other local governments from passing anti-discrimination rules are wasting little time trying to stop it in court.
The American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal and Equality North Carolina scheduled a Monday news conference in Raleigh to announce federal litigation challenging the law, approved last week by the legislature and signed by Gov. Pat McCrory.

Republican lawmakers wanted to overturn an impending Charlotte ordinance that allowed transgender people to use the restroom aligned with their gender identity. But the new law also prevents all cities and counties from extending protections covering sexual orientation and gender identity at restaurants, hotels and stores.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone especially the Republicans in North Carolina. I expect the courts not to side with North Carolina.

      Hope you are right.

    Here’s the score folks.
Republican Senators/NRA board members arrested for deviant behavior in a restroom. ONE
    Trans genders. ZERO

Hey ACLU, lets not be so hasty here.

It looks like the Republican Governor of Georgia decided not to do this. The threats of dollars lost by companies and studios who have campaigned against it has worked!

Maybe the loss of business worked or maybe it was simply the presence of common sense.

I’m sure it was the $$$$$$$$$$. It almost always is.

Of course! The only thing that trumps religious convictions is the almighty $$$. This also applies to churches. Many divorces are forbidden in the Catholic church, but if you have the right amount of cash and/or notoriety…….

I am sure it was, but I wish it was common sense every once in a while.

There is only one thing they cannot deny, argue or impose laws on, mortality.
They can not live forever and all the misguided hatred and divisive legislation they have imposed upon all citizens, can be erased and become just a sad blot in US history.

This is all nonsense. A male should use a restroom for males and a female should do the same. Anyone sane should agree.

This whole restroom issue seems pretty bogus to me. My first impulse is to agree with edsfarm, below.
I don’t get why some people imagine themselves to be members of the opposite sex and then insist we go along with it.
I am also aware that there are exceedingly rare cases where someone is born with physical characteristics of one sex, but who have chromosomes of the other. Cases like that are one in a billion or something incredibly rare like that.
With that said, I object to the cruelty with which guys-who-think-they-are-gals or gals-who-think-they-are-guys are often treated. Like everyone else, they should be treated with kindness and sympathy as they deal with whatever is going on that leads them to deny reality.

I wouldn’t say my opinion is anchored in concrete. This issue is relatively new and there is still lots to learn. In the meantime, my strongest feeling on the matter is we need to treat these people kindly.
